Watch how Volocopter imagines the future of urban transport to look like. Have a look at the day to day operations transporting up to 10.000 passengers a day with a single point to point connection. Inside the Volo-Hub system you can see how you alight, batteries are charged, where the air taxis are stored and how you will embark and take off. This infrastructure system allows urban air taxis to offer a comprehensive mobility network across the largest global cities globally.
Next to the Volo-Hub there will be an on-demand mobility solution, a Volo-Port. The Volo-Port is similar to a heli-port and it can be integrated among other places at hotels and subway stations. By implementing Volo-Hubs and Volo-Ports an extensive mobility network will be provided in the largest global cities.
Co-founder Alex Zosel - first person to ever fly a Volocopter - expects the first full Volocopter hub systems to be in place within the next 10 years, capable of flying 100.000 passengers an hour to their desired destination.
About Volocopter
Volocopter brings urban air mobility (UAM) to megacities worldwide. We aim to improve quality of life for people in cities by offering a fantastic new mode of transportation. To this end, we create sustainable and scalable UAM ecosystems with partners in infrastructure and operations.
Volocopter’s family of eVTOL aircraft will offer passengers (VoloCity and VoloConnect) and goods (VoloDrone) swift, secure, and emission-free connections to their destinations, supported by the VoloIQ, the UAM ecosystem’s software platform that serves as its digital backbone for safe and efficient operations.

I look forward to further developments from your company. But as I don’t live in an urban setting large or small, I am more interested in buying my own for private use. Is there an estimated price-tag for the X2?

Is the building public? Is it a private building? What on earth did you come up with to build a vertiport in the building?

I'm a fan of any technology that is transformative and the electric propulsion science in these types of aircraft will improve in terms of range and power to weight ratios. However, the bigger challenge is physics. Aviation will always be weather dependent, even in mega cities. Will eVTOL machines be able to cope in mid-winter, especially in MegaCities where the demand is expected to be highest?

1000 people a day is not a lot, compared to other transit systems, this would hardly make a dent on movement of people in a megacity. Isn't it just a flashy private hire service?

1000 people a day is enough to service the executives and VIPs that this service will initially cater to. Moving forward, it will become accessible to greater numbers of people just like transportation services that came before it.

At 1000 passengers per hour, you're eliminating 500-1000 vehicles per hour from congested roadways. Or, you're creating capacity for an extra 500+ taxi/rideshare vehicles per hour.

Okay I'm not big on many future things but this is fucking awesome I'd actually love to have my own private use volocopter one that's manual with autonomous mode like a Tesla except way better quality. Especially to fly to work oh man that'd be cool lol. Volocopter get yo infrastructures now! I want volocopters!!

These hubs will have to be located on waterfront lots, great real estate investment if you can get your hands on waterfront property in a dense city.

I can't wait to ride one, it might take me to The Cube Disability and Olympus Care Services, but I'd just stick to the Revolution Mini-500, which is noisy and pollution.

The noise is excluding this kind of aircrafts to service as taxis in city centers. This could be good for agriculture if cost justifies it. This could be good for medical transport of organs between cities. But not as daily commute in city centers. Too loud.
@KevinFields777

Noise should be significantly reduced with the combination of smaller blades and all-electric motors.
@scyz2807
@scyz2807 5 жыл бұрын
I've already replied to this same issue. The noise the Volocopter makes will be much less than a piston engine small plane motor. The only noticeable noise will come from the spinning props. And depending on their rotational velocity the sound will be a bit louder or a bit quieter. How loud is the fan you use in your house in the summer time?

what about the regulation ? In France for ex it is forbidden to fly a drone in a city without a license and asking for allownance. There will be people that will be against it, because they may be afraid of : 1: that people within these taxi could see in their houses :/ 2: if there is an issue and the drone fall, what will happen ? I guess people inside will die and people on which this crash will die too 3: what about security. I mean this will be a drone, a terrorist could leave a remote device to make this crash.. 4: what about if a bird is going trough the propellers ? 5: what about the weather (wind, rain, lightning) 6: what about the noise during departure or landing ? ( I have a drone, supposed to be quiet... but when i turned it on my wife can hear it in house....

Obviously, such exceptions would have to be made in every jurisdiction as to permission for unmanned flights. But, to address concerns, everything that you've brought up applies to vehicles already in existence today and has since the beginning of flight. UAVs that carry passengers or cargo are going to have to meet the same standards as other vehicles.

What I'm wondering is, will there only be a passenger in this aircraft, or will a pilot be actually doing the flying. If there is a pilot then all of Alian Aha questions are already answered. 1) People in helicopters could could also see into your house. If someone leaves their shades up or curtains open a pedestrian can see into their house. This isn't a real problem, except for the person who is that seriously paranoid. The answer is "See a psychologist". 2) The same thing can happen to ANY aircraft. But this multi-rotor is small enough it could be (maybe IS) outfitted with a ballistic recovery parachute that could be deployed if something caused it to stop flying. It would save the person/people on board and anyone on the ground. 3) Again, security would be the same as in your average airport. You get scanned as you enter the facility and/or before you board the craft - if you've got a bomb security grabs you and the police are called. 4) Since the props are horizontal it's less likely to happen. Plus these things don't fly so fast that a flock of birds couldn't be avoided. 5) They talk about rain in this video so I'm sure it's not a problem. Now, high winds can be a problem for any small aircraft, so they just wouldn't fly in those conditions. Lightning would be bad if it hit one of these but the chances are pretty slim. And often the wind is strong during thunder storms so the Volocopters could be grounded until the storm is over. Sometimes ground based transport will still be the better choice. 6) Have you ever stood near a small plane when the engine starts then throttles up for take off (forget about jet engines!)? They'll make your drone sound like a whisper in comparison. So, if the Volocopter is twice as loud as your drone, it will still be MUCH quieter than a small plane's piston engine.

Helicopters are dead and will be replaced by this within a few years. I wouldn't consider even remotely obtaining a rotorcraft rating. Anyone can fly a volocopter at a few orders of magnitude greater safety than those killing machines where a thousand moving parts conspire to try to kill you. Especially the Robinsons. One has to be crazy to fly any of those piston helis.

I’m not trying to be mean or anything, but this all sounds silly to me. If I hadn’t known that this helicopter was real I would’ve thought it was a joke like a video from The Onion. What sounds so silly is the complicated hub that they claim can be built very cheaply and handle 1000 passengers.
