I've found the opposite to being depressed by this song...when I was moderately depressed or anxious, Moby would calm me down and take me to a stable place. It felt like his music understood my pain and was soothing me. And in such a beautiful way. I don't think I would have coped nearly as well (or at all) without his music in my life before I was medically treated. IMHO this is his best track from "Wait For Me".

For me, this song is about survivor's guilt.Where, you know,you are in the middle of living a good, normal life, having fun, being stupid. And suddenly there are those who died so you could live. Looking you in the face and rendering your happy life meaningless. It's something only survivors, but ALL survivors, know. To some extent. It's not our fault. But we carry it. Sometimes it's heavy.
@Caliphane2 жыл бұрын
Hope you're carrying that weight a bit less. To me it's about seeing all the places your family fractured and fell apart. Peoole drift apart, get older, grow apart, and in some cases pass away. My dad died from alcoholism and it haunts me to this day watching the process

I caught this many, many years ago on TV. MTV, I believe. I remember I would jot down the names of songs I liked on pieces of paper to look up later. Glad I could remember this one long enough for me to look it up! The audio/image quality for sure seem a lot better than I remember. :)

Because there seems to be nothing there to fight for. Nothing seems to be able to match what you've lost . It somehow makes you feel safe and yet more and more miserable. And if you're not strong enough or you find yourself alone...it's impossible to escape. I know it feels ... I've been there myself.

I often wonder if the type of people listening to music like this are the highly analytical introspective types. Those who struggle to relate to the normallows. Those who hate surface level facades. Those who want nothing more than true authentic, meaningful connection.

A couple of years later my other grandma died and 1 year ago I lost the brother of my mother. My uncle who took care of me while I was orphan. My whole family died. God keeps the angels close to him I guess. Put me on a train send me back to my home.❤🩹

I am 28, gay, Mexican with addiction, yeah I drink if I'm Not using.. It feels like unspeakable to mention meth. But yeah. That's my thing. So after ten years of use, I finally had made some changes and wanted to get free, so I tried a place called teen challenge, Christian drug place, it was weird. I left halfway through the year program cuz I couldn't handle their hate, one of the instructors would talk about the gays burning in hell. I jus couldn't pretend like it didn't hurt me, their views on women and everything... It made me sick, so I left and took the train home... This song is like that experience for me. My parents divorced when I was 13, I rebelled, I started to use, I grew a lil, had fun, spent many years at Coachella :-) was so happy in my Early twenties, then I fell in love and it didn't work out... Moby will always be, my favorite artist, the only artist that k Couldn't live with on a desert remote island, if I could only hear one artist for the rest of my Life, moby
