As an ex-bomb loader, I would suggest the MK-82’s you loaded onto the MER’s have a yellow stripe on the nose if they were high explosive! But... if they were inert (as drop shapes or training munitions) they would have a light blue stripe! MER’s were multiple ejector racks and had six stations and TER’s were triple ejector racks that had three stations. Very Beautiful Build! I’m going to use some of your techniques on my next build. 😊

Sir. Great model and very nice workmanship! I really enjoyed your video. I would like to offer you some advise for your next build. Your ordnance needs a little more work. For live bombs you need a yellow stripe at the front and the nose of the bomb is steel color. Your sidewinder should also have at least a silver tip to simulate the seeker head. Finally, although I cannot find a picture of this aircraft that you built, I believe that the air brake housing on the fuselage is the same color as the fuselage. I could be wrong about this, but most Skyhawks I saw with the air brake open the housing is the same color as the fuselage. I am sure someone will find a picture to the contrary. However, the door is indeed red on the inside. I am not criticizing your build it is VERY nice. Great job!
@Big-Modeller4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice :) I must admit the bomb markings are pure magic to me. I painted them accordingly to the instructions. The nose of the bomb is steel, I treated it with the "dark steel" pigment, but I understand I could fail to show it on the movie properly. As for the sidewinder - you're right, I should try harder than to just paint it as the instructions suggested. As for the airbrakes... that was tough. I couldn't find a photo of this very plane which shows that detail. The instructions suggested to paint everything white, but I already knew that instructions in this model are garbage. I found lots of pictures with the fuselage part white and the exterior part red, and as many with both parts red. I had to flip a coin. I know this model is not a perfect one. I'm aware that some of my viewers know this machine perfectly and will find any mistake I made. I wish we have an actual A-4E in an aviation museum in my city, but unfortunately, we haven't.

I recall my squadron's A-4s were painted red on the inside of the air brake doors and in the fuselage carve-outs. Also under the leading edge drop slats and in their wing carve-outs.
@Graphixman5 ай бұрын
That looks like a very nice model. Only issue I see is Hobby Boss molded the leading edge slats in the upper position. I used to work on Skyhawks in the 70’s and those slats were not powered but rather moved by airflow pressure over and under them. So having them up while on the ground would be technically wrong. The Blue Angels aircraft had them up but that’s because they were bolted up for show.

@Big-Modeller3 жыл бұрын
Hi :) I didn't re-scribe panel lines on this model. I don't like them to be very pronounced like in the Airfix sets. But you're right, I had a slight problem using the panel liner. It was hard to clean the wash so the paint stays in the crevice. As for your question - I don't know ;) It depends on how much work you want to put into this model. You may re-scribe panel lines, add riveting. You must decide for yourself what level of detailing will satisfy your need.

Nice build the only criticism l have for this kit is that it should have had separate leading edge slats instead of being molded into the wing . @egyeneskifli78083
Nice build. But Hobby Boss mislead you in a few ways. First there are no yellow bands on the Mk.82s nose. The single yellow band indicates a live bomb/warhead (and a blue indicates an inert one). The double yellow band is the sign of the fireproof coating of the munition. Second: they never fitted in the forward inner stations of a MER (or the inner of a TER). You can see why, those bombs obstruct the main gear doors and thus the deployment of the main landing gear. Fully complemented MER were only used in the centerline hardpoint under the fuselage. Third: fro a live Sidewinder there should be a yellow band just forward from the first rail lock (indicates a live warhead) and a brown a little more further back where the yellow ring is in yours (indicates a live rocket motor). I really don't know how model manufacturers were unable to figure out these things. They still give us dumb markings or marking instructions. Shame on them. And they call those Sidewinders AIM-9B, while in reality those are AIM-9Ds (or G, or H, those had the same airframe). The B had shorter half spherical nose and smaller ailerons.

Yeah, shame on them ;)

@Big-Modeller3 жыл бұрын
Ta niebieska jest teflonowa - jest elastyczna. Można ją wyginać na boki i robić zaokrąglone kształty.

Gloss varnish was Humbrol Clear and the satin was Vallejo Polyurethane Varnish.

What putty would you recommend?
@Big-Modeller4 жыл бұрын
I don't know what to recommend mate. I use CA glue as putty in most cases. Washable acrylic putty here and there in places where sanding is not possible. But I'm looking for better materials.

While I normally enjoy most of HB's new releases, this one was disappointment. The Hase kit still reigns supreme. Now, this isn't a bad kit, it's just...fine.

@Big-Modeller4 жыл бұрын

Nice end result, but the Hasegawa A-4 Skyhawks are less expensive and are far superior in quality of plastic and detail. Leading edge slats should be in down position on the ground. Only Blue Angels had them bolted in the up position. Also noticed shape of nose is too narrow and dorsal hump is too wide. I guess this is typical Hobby Boss crap in their “inexpensive” line.
@Big-Modeller4 жыл бұрын
So I heard. My next Sky Hawk will be the Hasegawa one for sure ;)
