I guess what it all boils down to is how much time you want to spend building a Lancaster. When I was a kid I built an Airfix Lancaster in 1 day. I also built a Halifax and Hampden to go along with it and they didn't look that bad. They sat on my dresser for a few years. I also added a Mosquito night fighter but it was in 1/48 scale so it hung from the ceiling. In a million years I would not have the patience or time to build something like this

I think you're right - to be honest on a lot of these large builds I end up getting a bit bored and often put them aside for a while. Sometimes it is nice to have a kit built and finished in a weekend (or even a day) - that's why I've started building some of those more recent smaller aircraft :)

It's been an epic build and it has tested your patience at times.....however.....super job and an amazing outcome. Will be looking forward to the final reveal in the near future. Stay well and happy modelling!

A tip for you when paitning your own symbols instead of using decals: When you had put on the first mask you have to paint first a thin layer of the background colour.. That will prevent "splasches" showing up because this first thin layer will find all micro gaps you didn't see when you put the mask on. Actual this is how professionel paintes do when having a surface that give this kind of trubbels.

One trick I do with masking things like decals is to put down about two coats of clear to seal the masking. A very nice job on the kit overall though, it looks really good
@ModelNerd4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Allan. So you put down the mask, then seal with clear, and then paint the roundel or whatever? Interesting - I'll have to try that some time.
@allanrichards64484 жыл бұрын
Yes I was doing a Porsche racing car and the white backing for the numbers was going over a very curved bit of the body so the decal would not lay flat and it was a pain to get the mask to sit well also. I also think that masks stick better to gloss than matt finishes so like for decals a coat

Nice!. Being a proud Aussie, I'll be opting for the RAAF "G for George" that is displayed in the Australian War Memorial. Although I might wait to check out the Wingnut Wings kit first.

Yes - I'm very intrigued by the WnW kit, although we haven't seen much since the announcement in December 2018.

I'm in the final stages of building this kit and have found your videos really interesting, thanks! I want to spray the large wing roundels too, please would you let me know which colours you used? Overall I think the kit is pretty good - sure it has issues but the finished article still looks amazing!
@ModelNerd2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, I'm glad it was useful. For the colours, IIRC I took Tamoya XF8 blue and darkened it a little with some grey. For red, XF7 with a tony amount of black. The yellow was straight XF3 I think.

Thx for uploading this & showing the fit issues with the fuselage halves as well as the tightness of the wings...I have to say that this is another area where Trumpeter techs have "failed". Not having to glue the undercarriage is a good bonus for many reasons...event though the plastic is strong its a huge & heavy kit with potential for the undercarriage t bend or snap. As I said before I was thinking about getting this kit in 2019 because I love the Lancaster, but looking at the kit issues as well as the overall cost of the finishing it i made the right decision. If you have the time t post photos of the finished Lanc, would be appreciated!
@ModelNerd4 жыл бұрын
Cheers Alex. Yeah....this hasn't given me the same enjoyment as some of the other smaller kits I've built recently...it is a bit of a fight to be honest. When it's finished I'll be half pleased that I have a decent looking model, and half pleased I don't have to work on it again.

Good morning, I've just watched part 7 of your Lancaster build and see that you have had a series of masks made by MAKETAR PAINT MASKS. I am building the Border Models 1/32 Lanc and need 2 registration numbers masks cut. Would you be able to give me MAKETAT'S web address please. Thank you Geoff Williams
