Ignore the people who say "3D printing isn't crafting", I got into 3D printing because it is too painful to craft by hand now. If anything, it has taught me a few skills in 3D design.

Digital arts are crafting, but 3D printing don't stop you to craft old school. Both are complementary. You can get real life greebles that would be painful to 3d modeling and printing and sometimes using cardboard/foam can be faster than printing for big pieces.

I consider 3D printing, “crafting”, foraging etc. all ends to a means. Some people prefer a different journey to the finished product, and that is completely okay. Some prefer traditional crafting, some supplement crafting projects with 3D printing, and others prefer to just print and paint. I personally think the way in which you present and edit your hobby journeys to be entertaining and enjoyable. You can’t please everyone so just do what you love and those that love what you do will watch and support you. Keep up the great work 👍

And people think Canadians are polite and stuff - meanwhile here's Knarb throwing next level 'polite shade' through 'Kids in the Hall' style compliance. 3D printing is totally crafting - what makes this channel (and certain others)so awesome is that they 3d print where it makes sense and use 'old school' methods as well so that the viewers always find something of 'value' (seriously, that masking tape roll for the circle idea is brilliant). There is a place for both - I would say that a whole series of videos on making something both 'caveman' style (after all, you can't 3D print a 'pew pew' noise) and highlighting a 3D sculpt of the same thing would be super well received. (For example: I don't have space for 3D printer [funds issue aside], but if that changes, I'll be all over Knarb's (and Trent's) designs for things I can use primarily because they highlighted them in videos)

Loved this video so much! I'm not sure where people think the 3d files we print come from... like they just magically appeared on our computer! I don't see a bottle of resin as being any different to a sheet of EVA foam, or some 3d design progrm being different from a craft knife. Love the satire and love the aesthetic!

Enjoyed the humor in this one. And while I do consider 3D Printing an awesome tool in crafting stuff, I don’t own one (small apartment, low wife-acceptance-factor, no time for yet another hobby etc) and thus videos that don’t use one simply appeal to me more.

Lol!!! I love your sense of humor. I also love that at least one person out there, I have to imagine, took this semi-seriously. I sincerely hope there's somebody out there trying to do a.zenithal highlight by blowing paint through a straw. Paint they made from grinding up plants of course. You're getting pretty great at 3d modeling Knarb. Do you ever worry about GW sending out a hit squad? Its my understanding that crafting 28mm terrain, using even caveman methods, is copyright infringement. Certainly they own the rights to even rawhide glue and likely cardboard by now. Can i ask (you may have mentioned already but I don't recall) what software you use to model with? Would it be a decent video to do an intro to using it? I know there are other channels that have tried this kind of thing but, frankly, it's super dry stuff and hard to keep your focus. I think you could do a better job of it but (obviously) you'd know better if it would be doable or a good use of your time. I wouldn't want you to put a lot of work into something and not get a decent return for your time. I'd love to be able to model my own but I'm not overly artistic. I'm a fairly experienced techie but mostly related to server and network config and admin. The creative side of things is a bit of a black box to me and, as such, I procrastinate even attempting it. Anyway, thanks for the videos Knarb and for taking the time to respond to my comments and questions.

they're not hating. they miss the building. And using every tool at your disposal to get the job done may be fine at home, but isn't very exciting to watch on youtube. what if for argument's sake, 10 years from now, they invent a version of the "3-d" printer that both prints AND paints. So all you need to do is press the button and out will come a perfectly printed and painted miniature. Basically a star trek replicator. "computer, i'd like an earl grey tea. hot!". "Computer, i'd like a terrain 3416-B in red". And out it pops. how exciting. And yes prop to the designer of the 3-d model. But what do we the viewers get out of the fact that they spent 36 hours on the computer designing it?

Saying 3d Printing isn’t crafting is like saying kit or trash bashing isn’t crafting. Taking something that’s made and modifying it (whether that be as ‘simple’ as painting it a certain way, or straight up altering the model pre or post printing) will always require the same amount of knowledge and creativity that things like scratch building require, it’s just a different type of knowledge

The whole thing with people calling 3D printing "not crafting" is just plain silly to me. It's no less crafting than using plastic kits--the only place I could see it called "not crafting" is if you were just printing out pre-assembled minis/terrain, and even then there's still a considerable hobby element to it. In my opinion, I think the whole thing just stems from disappointment of people who aren't able to 3D print. It can certainly be disheartening to see more and more crafters rely on technology and techniques unavailable to you--I felt the same way seeing traditional crafters use airbrushes and the like. At the end of the day though, every crafter has to use all the tools at their disposal, and rely on the techniques that work for them. Not every crafting video needs to tailor to every kind of crafter. And besides, almost every "advanced technique," be it 3D printing or airbrushing, can be replicated by traditional means--airbrushing effects can be made with drybrushing, 3D printing can be substituted with bits and kitbashing. It just takes more time and effort, which is why lots of creators make the switch to quicker, more advanced methods.

Saying 3D printing is "cheating" is nonsense. It's a tool, like any other. To fail to teach people to use all the tools available is folly. If only to save people work that isn't necessary, if there's a tool that can do the job much easier. That said, I do think there's a virtue in teaching people how to craft terrain that _doesn't_ require hundreds of dollars worth of investment.
