Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde do the Unthinkable

Deputies in Manitowoc County Wisconsin locate a stolen vehicle and attempt a traffic stop. The vehicle flees at a high rate of speed, until a PIT maneuver is attempted, and the vehicle is boxed in. The driver flees on foot, and the passenger seizes the opportunity to jump behind the vehicle and flee again, hitting a Police K-9 and several squad cars. The suspect vehicle is again pitted, causing a rollover. Both suspects are arrested, found guilty and sentenced to prison.

As a former LEO, I don't like calling out mistakes made by other LEOs unless it really stands out ... but this is one of them. The deputy with the canine had his hands full. It is his job to 'coordinate' the K9. Go back to 7:01 and watch how the deputy standing near the front right of the suspect's vehicle has the pistol pointed at her and light shining directly on her face at 7:09. She moved the vehicle forward slightly, the went into reverse, exactly when the K9 deputy is trying to approach the drivers side. I find it hard to believe the deputy at the front right of the vehicle did not see this. Here is a brother-in-arms trying to apprehend a suspect, gets pinned b/t two vehicles, and to not use deadly force? That was a fail, plain and simple. Why pull out a firearm if you can watch a colleague, in such a dangerous and life threatening situation, if you are not going to use it? If I were working in that dept, I would never allow myself to be 'covered' by that deputy ever again ... and most other LEOs would likely feel the same way. The fact neither the K9 deputy and the K9 did not get seriously injured is pure luck.

Good news is her attorney asked to have bail reduced and the state said no. "Defense makes argument for modification of cash bail to $1,000.00. State is opposing any modification given Defendant's prior conduct while on bond and disregard for public safety is noted. Getting behind the suspect vehicle was nearly fatal for that officer and his dog. I was dumbfounded that he actually walked behind the car as the woman was getting into the driver's seat. @@bobknull7502yeah no kidding. I would love to see you react in a deadly pursuit like that. We can train all we want but in the moment you have make a split second decision and he that it was right. On top of that, from the backside it looks like the vehicle is pinned in. The K-9 has the tactical advantage going to the driver side to deploy his dog. In those situations you don’t have time to run around a car so you get to point A as quick as you can.

@@adamphillips2254 First it wasn't a deadly pursuit. Second I am a retired first responder so I understand about the importance of training and discipline. When you don't take the time that you need you get yourself or someone else hurt. He put himself and the dog in danger. He failed to use cover to get to where he wanted to be. He was in a hurry. If the vehicle looked pinned in he couldn't get through to the other side that way. He was careless and you and him should NOT be in a job like that. Blind loyalty to idiots will get you killed.

Relax your muscles when you feel an impact is imminent. That's why drunk drivers tend to survive during crashes. Your body goes numb and you're not tightening your muscles/bones which causes a much more lethal impact. Steve McQueen mentioned it during his career doing stunts.

Gotta say thanks to the Channel Operator for providing information about the K9’s injury, glad the dog is OK. Considering she used the vehicle to injure or try to injure both the K9 and his handler I think it would have been justifiable to have shot her. I guess these officers are much more professional than I would have been. Respect.
