This is a great cut. Where are you taking your guide from when doing the top section? Also any recommendations for judging the length in the end finished design? Without removing too much and having an unhappy client.
@Dazoxa6 жыл бұрын
I know this question is a year late, but I would leave out an inch or two around the hairline (depending on density) so that you can keep a thick enough perimeter to not have to lose much length. Another option is to elevate until the perimeter falls out. Imagine the perimeter around their hairline as their "extensions" and the layering as their "real hair".

your method makes sense! i was shown to do the face frame first then make the mohawk section at at the same angle yoy had and keep doing that on each side till there no more cutting needed then so what the stylist at work said cusian it method and comv the side over the face and add the back cut till there a point no more cutting needed idk he is right I got a hair cut today at work so i hope i do well and my friend likes it

Is it possible to do this cut if your client comes in asking for the hair to be a specific length when finished. Like I want it to fall at my shoulder blade or I want 3 inches taken off? I have a hard time picturing how that would be possible when you start cutting at the top.

I have curly hair and my hair was cut into a Bob I have recently been growing it out and slowly cutting it even my hair is now a little bit past my shoulders sometimes above my shoulders depending on certain days. I got my hair cut several times and unfortunately the hair dressers I went to cut my hair uneven to where one side was 2 to 3 inches shorter than than the other. Now that my hair is a little bit longer I feel that my face shape dosent go with my hair. I got my hair trimmed a few months ago and was recommended to get a 180 degree layer and how it would help with my frizz and curl shape. I'm afraid that it won't look good and my hair will be shorter when I'm really trying to grow it out. Should I think about doing the 180 layer cut? Please help.
@mulliganstew725 жыл бұрын
kerstie hey How did your hair turn out? I know this comment is old but want to reply b/c I have curly/frizzy hair w/oval face shape too! I like asymmetry with my oval face. So it sucks They messed up and it’s uneven but you can work with it while it’s like that. I do a deep side part, long side bang and Graduated layers around my face in through the back.. I like side bangs & face layers that are wispy & cut in steps vs a seamless look b/c. Seamless layers around my face drags everything down & elongates the oval since it basically appears one length (seamless). I don’t want fringe in the back though because that will frizz it out. It is very difficult to find somebody to cut this kind of hair for me anyway. Mine is also extremely thick. Tons of it. No one knows what to do with it. I’m learning to do a lot myself. Last time I asked for more piecey-ness Around the face the hairdresser hacked into it with slide cutting techniques and texturizing scissors. I’m sad because it’s sticking out all over the place and going haywire and the ends poke out, are breaking & won’t lay flat when I curl it Away from my face. So I guess my point is there’s balance and somebody who is familiar with your hair type would be best to do this. I don’t know what it’s called but I guess I have a hybrid of this haircut for sure. I was shooting for a 70s Olivia Newton-John look (from the Xanadu video) LOL But where she missed the mark & went overboard w/heavy duty texturizing So I have scissors coming in from Amazon so I can clean it up that’s why am watching the videos. If you have a hairdresser who is confident and comfortable working with curly hair type then I’m sure you trust them but In my experience what they think will reduce frizz backfires went too much heavy layering is done and it usually involves point cutting or techniques that shatter/trash the ends & also creates frizz & Disparity in length. Ever hear the expression “ the ends need friends”? It pertains to curls needing weight around them so the hairs clump together & stay strong & don’t run amok/ fray. So w/any layered cut they ideally use regular scissors to get the look by chiseling the hair strategically vs using thinning shears or slide cutting techniques (in case that comes up in a consultation) because these tools fray ends, causing breakage and frizz & its high maintenance to Style. It will also have you going back to the salon more often which is counterproductive when you’re trying to grow your hair out. Other than that, I think the shape & long layers of this hair cut would work really well!! Let me know what you do. I hope you like it & it comes out awesome! Oh one last thing, to grow hair out, only cut every 2-3 months (And only go to a person who’ll actually listen & not hack your hair off.) If you can, get one good haircut that grows out nicely, then buy some scissors to cut dead ends yourself at home & do a “dusting” in between seeing stylist. There are videos teachings How to dust ends. I hope I’m not sounding like I’m bashing stylists but I am losing faith in many of them lately… Especially with a tricky hairstyle like this and curls add in extra hair thickness & they’re a little lost in the woods.

Hi Matt, I have a question that came up to my mind while watching this haircut technique. Can this exact cutting be shorter to become a Bob haircut? Because the sectioning is great creating light weight on the sides (off the face), seamless layers overall, and 180 degrees makes it easier to blow dry the hair. Your guidance and feedback would be greatly appreciated. Note: I'm not a hairdresser, just in case if what I said doesn't make sense to you, thanks for understanding. I hope to hear back from you!
