This was the best review video, concise and all the information from a consumer perspective. Do all the dyson purifiers have a humidifier as well. If i get Tp04 , and dont want the cooling feature ,just want it to purify and circulate the air , specially in the winter, will it be a good choice? Thank you for your great review !
@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
When Dyson says that it "cools" they mean it's a fan. But it's that fan that drives the air flow for the purifier. So you will always need the fan on at some level in order to purify air. However, you can change the direction through the purifier, that way it won't blow on you or out into the room. You can blow it onto a wall. In any case, yes, it's still a good choice for winter or really any season. You have more control over the air flow than with most other air purifiers.

THE BEST REVIEW 🤗Unfortunately? I have seen the video too late, I have already ordered HP04, I thought it was a good investment because it is recommended for 800 square feet (I thought it would cover more space and there would be more air flow🤦🏻♀️) I live in Oregon so the 'heat' option would be useful . At home we suffer from allergies and that’s why I bought a purifier. Do you think I should choose the newer PH04 or TP7A? Some of the ones you mention are no longer available at BestBuy. Thank You for your time!

@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
Definitely TP04 (in addition to virtually all air purifiers) work by pumping air through a filter. Particulates that were previously floating in the air that you were likely to breath in are now captured within the filter. Less particulates for you to breath in means less irritation to your lungs and allergies.

None of these are humidity regulators. Dyson does have a new humidifier, the PH01 - amzn.to/36UrnnP - though we haven't yet tested it. Otherwise, you may just want a humidifier and a purifier. Here's the full list of purifiers we've tested - moderncastle.com/air-purifiers/

great review. Kinda surprised the tower versions are so low to the ground. For a living room it feels like I’d need to put them on a riser/box to be able to blow over the backs of sofas. If I’m going to do that, maybe the tower versions aren’t as necessary and the DP would be ok? Also surprised the TP04 has lower air flow than DP04 and TP02. I guess limitations due to the additional filtering. Does the Tower form factor do better for distribution with height to help ‘feel’ more air vs absolute air flow measurement?
@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
I would say the purification power gained via more air flow at a higher or lower point is relatively unimportant. It really is more of an aesthetic choice than a more functional difference. Now, in terms of air flow actually going through the unit due to the motor power, that is going to play a much better factor...so in that respect the DP04 can handle more than the TP04 in terms of room size. Now, if "feeling the air" is an important component to you, then yes, in that case the TP04 is a nice choice because it does have a wider "cone" of air that blows in your direction (if that makes sense).
@MrKlawUK4 жыл бұрын
Modern Castle thanks - makes complete sense. for the living room, some sense of feeling the air is important. the TP04 does seem a little short - we’re used to old pedestal fans so they’d blow over the tops of our sofas. that’s why we were thinking the dp04 and put it on a table. but a broader/taller airstream sounds good.

We just got hit with a bunch of smoke from the wildfires in OR. Will the TP02 be a good option or do I need to go with the 04?
@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
TP02 would be perfectly fine. It's air flow per minute is nearly the same as the 04. I'd save the money and get the TP02, here's the link - amzn.to/2ZJK4I0 I would suggest you go ahead and buy extra filters. Many places seem to be going out of stock quickly. Another KZbin commentor in your region said that their HEPA filters went black almost immediately due to the smoke. You can find replacement filters here - amzn.to/35HuYX4

Modern Castle thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly! Would the activated carbon filter be of any benefit?
@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
@@GoodcoStudios It would help, but carbon filters are more for smells and VOCs. Not to say that there isn't a smell due to the smoke...but the quantity of particulates generated by the wildfire is such that the carbon filters are going to have very little impact on that level of smell. As a result, I think the TP02 is the better choice.

@ModernCastle5 жыл бұрын
@hail2030 I would say they are equivalent. But first, I should clarify, I have only tested the Dyson TP04 and TP02. That said, the TP04 seems to be built on the exact same purification technology as the DP04, so I would expect them to be more or less than same. In our tests the TP04 reduced PM2.5 and PM10 to 0.2. In our tests the Rabbit Air MinusA2 reduced PM2.5 and PM10 to 0.1. MinusA2 was slightly better, but in my view, they are effectively the same. Both MinusA2 and DP04 have the same smart features, so the same there. As far as the design goes, I think it's a personal choice. For my money, I would probably get the DP04. Costs less, still looks pretty cool, has all the same usability features, and performance is basically identical. Lastly, a few final disclosures: Dyson nor Rabbit Air sponsors me or Modern Castle. Modern Castle purchased the Dyson TP04 we tested. Rabbit Air did give us a free MinusA2 that we tested. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

For the air quality testing, what order did you do the testing? Can't really say one reduced more % particulates if the baseline was different. Looks like you tested the TP04 when the room was most dirty and the TP02 after when the room was already less dirty when the TP04 cleaned up
@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
There was no order. We tested these over a series of many weeks and months. I agree, don't use the percentage reduction to make your judgement on which is best for your home. We include that more as a directional indicator of performance, but in our view, the most important metric is how low a purifier is able to get in terms of PM2.5 and PM10.

Hi, this was helpful, thank you! In theory I have a HP04 and a TP04 coming in the mail today. I’m in Oregon near all the wildfires and the air in our house is quite smoky. We made DIY HEPA filters with box fans and they turned black in a day. Do you have an estimate how long we could expect the filters on these Dyson’s to be effective in this situation? (I’m wondering if I should rush order replacement filters essentially.) Does the app tell you when the filter is maxed out?
@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
The app will tell you when they need to be replaced. Given the wild fire situation and your experience with those other filters turning black within a day I would expect you will need to rapidly replace the Dyson filters also. Given the severity of the situation in Oregon, you might also consider this air purifier - amzn.to/33uwbOV - this purifier has the largest HEPA filter we have tested to date. It is huge and has a ton of air flow. While the Dyson air purifiers are fantastic, my fear is that you need even more air flow and as large a HEPA filter as you can find. It really worries me how fast those other HEPA filters turned black. I live in Phoenix, which doesn't have great air quality, but it's not bad. However, I have never experienced a filter literally turn black. It's quite alarming.
@ellenv.s.49134 жыл бұрын
Modern Castle I really appreciate you quick reply, thank you! I will order replacement filters. The unit you linked is out of stock but I will dig around the internet and see if I can track one down. Finding these machines and replacement filters during these fires is like looking for toilet paper at the beginning of the pandemic!
@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
@@ellenv.s.4913 Ah, dang it, I didn't see it was out of stock. If you can find it elsewhere that would be great, otherwise as soon as it's back in stock I'd try to buy one. Any air purifier with a good sized HEPA filter and good air flow is going to be a godsend for you right now. If you cannot find this model, I would suggest just finding the largest air flow + largest HEPA filter models available. Other factors like activated carbon, charcoal, anti germ filters, ionizers, etc. are all great under normal circumstances...but what you need more than anything is high volume air flow + large HEPA. We've tested a ton of models over at our website here - moderncastle.com/air-purifiers/ - maybe give that a look if you're continuing to search. If you cannot find anything in stock, then just strapping any HEPA filter to the back of a box fan would be better than nothing.
@ellenv.s.49134 жыл бұрын
@@ModernCastle I will check out those others you've reviewed, thank you! We paid for "overnight shipping" for more HEPA filters for the box fans and the two Dysons from separate retailers on Friday. Still waiting, everything is just crazy around here. I have been calling all the local stores hoping people have restocked the HEPA filters by now but people buy them all the second they hit the shelves. At this point I'm wondering if we should turn off the box fans because, like I said, they are all black. What do you think? We have our 3 ductless systems on full blast fan and have been shaking out the filters in the front yard. We've taped off all bathroom and kitchen fans, fireplace, windows, etc. and are running the humidifier. Not sure there is much else to do, it's just very worrisome that my small children have been breathing this in for a week :/
@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
@@ellenv.s.4913 I was going to suggest taping and better sealing around doors and windows, so I'm glad to hear you've done that. Taking the filters into the yard to at least knock what dust / particulates out of them that you can is a good start. At least it is something until you can get new filters. If the filters are that black I'm not sure your fans or filters are doing any good by that point. HEPA filters are usually ready to be replaced long LONG before they go black. I just cannot imagine you're getting much performance out of it at that point...but if you can clean some of the dust / dirt out then you may be able to use them at least until your new ones arrive. Hoping they arrive soon for you!

We haven't tested the HP06 yet, but I will add it and these others to our list. Regarding its ability to filter coronavirus. As I understand it, most virus are able to be airborne because they attach themselves to other lighter than air objects (dust, pet dander, pollen, etc.). Air purifiers remove those lighter than air objects from the air, and therefore remove the virus, bacteria, etc. So in that way, yes, it's able to filter viruses. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
I'd say it really comes down to the size of your home and the importantance of purification. The TP04 has significant higher purification air flow over the HP04. So if you have a larger space (say anything over 1,000 sq. ft.) and/or purification is more important to you then you should go with the TP04. If you have a smaller space and/or the heat function is more important than you should go with the HP04.

According to Dyson.com "With long-range, purified heat projection, it's quick to heat the whole room evenly.¹" Those heating claims are based on a test area of 1236 square feet. As far as "how much" heat that is...that's really impossible to quantity. But I would say it's pretty typical of any high performance space heater.

Definitely not. As you said, it's just a fan. It's nothing like a portable AC.

Do these purifiers also get VOCs? If not, do you have any recommendations? (Getting ready to paint the inside of my house.)
@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
Based on our tests, no. Thus far, we haven't tested a purifier that does a great job at managing VOCs (at least at that level). For something as extreme as painting your house the best you can really do is ventilation + proper air flow. I'm unaware of any commercial grade purifier that would be well suited to that task.

I am lost, what’s the difference between the HP04 and the HP02?
@sakenu165 жыл бұрын
HP04 seems to have a carbon filter in addition to the HEPA filter. So I would assume this is better at purifying air.
@ModernCastle5 жыл бұрын
HP04 has both HEPA filter and carbon filter. HP04 also has 55% stronger airflow, meaning it can cover much larger square footage spaces. HP04 has a smaller footprint, due to the verticle design. HP02 only has HEPA filter, has air flow of 200 liters / second, and uses the wider amplifier. These are the primary differences. See the comparison chart here for more info - moderncastle.com/dyson-air-purifier-review/

I'm thinking of buying the HP04 but don't know if it can cool a hot room down effectively, would you say the cooling effect would be as similar to a normal fan?
@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
Yes, exactly. The heater on the HP04 is actually a heater...it adds heat. The cooler is just a fan. It's not going to cool the air, but it will improve air flow and in that way help to keep you cooler.
@arshe34 жыл бұрын
@@ModernCastle Thank you, lowkey I'm still going to buy this just to test it because if it can at least improve airflow instead of just circulating the same old heat air in the room then I think it's still a win. Really love the TP04 but having motor issues on my first unit. The only one Best Buy has in stock is the DP04. I don’t see how the DP04 can purify better with a smaller top for the fan output, or how it’s more powerful. I’d be using this from 150 to 350 square foot rooms. Does it matter which one I should get? Or should I just wait for the TP04 to get back in stock? I’ve heard the DP04 is more for desk use and the TP04 is a better purifier despite them using the same filter. Then hear the DP04 has better output. So, super confusing..
@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
According to Dyson the DP04 does indeed have higher airflow output. The portion on the top isn't really a fan...it's better to think of it as a funnel for air. The motor that is driving that air flow through the funnel in the base of the unit is what's creating all of the power. So don't let the relative size of the fan deceive you. If I were you I'd just get the DP04. In terms of performance, it's basically the same (if not a little better) than the TP04. The only reason I'd wait is if you just don't like the aesthetics of it. In any case, both the TP04 and DP04 could easily handle your square footage. So no issues there.
@Tripleh3lix204 жыл бұрын
Modern Castle I saw that the performance on your review was slightly lower for the DP04 with particle only going down to 29 from 359 baseline, whereas the TP04 went down to 14 with 599 particles at baseline. Is that a really big difference ? Also last question - How far does this thing tilt, enough to hit the roof? I like using my other purifier it to disperse the air throughout the room from the top, as it feels nicer to me.
@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
@@Tripleh3lix20 The difference between 29 and 14 particles is negligible in my view. Anything inside of a 50 PPM is incredibly good. Both are an AQI of 0. The tilt isn't that extreme, only maybe 15 degrees, so you cannot angle it to the ceiling.

Does the cooling fan could really blow cool air? or does it able to reduce the temperature and make a small room stay cool? There are many cooling fans, but most of them have a water or ice tank to blow the cool air, but Dyson fans don't seem to have a water tank, but why it's a cooling fan? I'm planning to purchase a cooling fan instead of a portable ac, but the word "cooling" really makes me confused.
@ModernCastle4 жыл бұрын
It does neither. It is merely a fan. Dyson calls it a "cooling" fan because it blows air and that air flow creates a more comfortable room.

The TP04 or DP04 would be best for cooling due to their high rate of air flow. However, none of these are a replacement for an AC. They are fans. They blow air, but they do not cool air like an AC.
