The way you perceive space on a 2 dimensional surface is incredible. Your visual library is crazy! A video about how you study reference would be the best.

I know this is an older video but this really helped me! I love how from step one, the sketch is done 3 dimensionally. I’ve tried many techniques if this could be the most successful one for me to move to a more realistic way of drawing.

i usually over do my drawings meaning i try to add values to it like halftones, shadows, occlusion etc with multiple values, but the problem is that i do it with 1 pencil and all the values look too similar and it just ends up looking like a mess, i really do need to pull back and stop at the drawing stage because i tire myself out when i try to render every drawing i do which completely defeats the purpose of why i sat down to draw at the first place, so currently i'm practicing holding back and try to simplify as much as possible. i came to this conclusion watching your stuff, thanks man.

Me too man!! Me too....Gestures are so important to perfect!! Everything else will fall into place. There are many styles of gestures to learn also. And an infinity of reference to gesture about. But I'm also starting to understand that skillfull artists have been doing this for a longer time and honing their skills so in the end watching and trying to learn from a video like this is in a way meaningless if you don't really understand certain basics like gestures and perspective. I also have been rendering all my drawing and realizing how much time I'm wasting. But sometimes it feels helpful for my visual library because the longer I take to render drawings; the better I remember how certain objects look like. But I also know that can come later. Have to rewire the brain. Gestures and perspective. Dont care how long it takes!! Gestures and perspective!!

I know this comment is 2 years late as you probably have become an artist by now but, we do not need any money to learn how to draw or how to do anything that we love and enjoy. All we need is our time to devote to our learning that trait that skill that we love so much. Time away from today's social media apps or gaming or watching tv or just being a couch-potato We need time to practice and hone those skills from anatomy to lighting to drapery to perspective to dynamism. All we need is practice and practice everyday! Just do it and do it and do it. It took many many years to get comfortable with all the skills required to create awesome art and storytelling in my comics but that is because I was doing everything on a part-time need and was not focused because creating comics was not my main bread and butter to earn a living. I was in the military fro 21 years then became a civilian contractor and only sketched when I missed it. Not a very good way to get better faster. Best and keep at it. AGL, AGL COMICS: Rise Above!

Thanks, I guess. When I used to draw cats and dogs it was basically a circle with two triangles, I just didn't know what to do so I never put much effort into it. But now I'm happy to say that my beagles, calicos, and my other favorite breeds look better. I'm still slightly struggling when it comes to horses, but as time goes on I'm hoping I'll improve.
