How can our military produce the best of the best warriors to go to war, experience the horror of war, return home alive if they're lucky and expect them to deal with what they've seen all while trying to go back to and adjust to "normal everyday life" as if that's possible?! Mr. Ballen paints a picture of that here. It's sickening and they deserve better!! He's never had a peaceful night's sleep since the war. I'm so very thankful for your service, Mr. Ballen as I am to all our veterans! I had the same feeling of calmness and acceptance of my death when my stalker was strangling me to death. My brain took me out of the situation I was in. Instead of dying by strangulation, I was falling off an incredibly tall, but beautiful, waterfall. Obviously I didn’t die; I played dead, went limp, and he released pressure from my neck.

@@Anadrolus my cousin's wife recently died of cancer and she knew it was 100% but looked healthy and was her entertaining and vivacious self until the end. the way i see it we all go sometime and we always owe it to ourselves and to the universe at large to live our best and to the fullest

@@jgunther3398 I agree with that sentiment, but it's way easier said than done. If you're someone prone to depression you have to remind yourself of this constantly or the depression will keep convincing you that everything sucks. It's constant work. Maybe even the people who seem to be taking things surprisingly well are fighting for their lives inside just to not fall into despair, probably for the sake of the people around them.

Imagine being going through buds earning your trident and becoming a seal and have 7 years tis with 2 deployments and got blown up by a grenade and still having other navy seals act like you didnt do enough. I’m in the army and I just want to say thank you for your service dude you did more than enough and I respect you a hell of a lot man and I think I speak for the majority of people here when I say this.

I was at Shank with the 101st. Lovely place. Lots of little holes in the tents for some reason.

I served in the Marine Corps from 92-96. On our two deployments seal team 5 were on my ships (USS Denver and the USS Juneau). Every single one of them looked like freaking shredded warriors who are metal every day. Literally seals are the elite warriors in the world.

Severe injuries don’t hurt until hours after the fact. It must be something the brain does to protect us. I nearly lost my left arm and all I felt was some pain in my ribs. Crazy what our bodies are capable of.

I never felt the round that hit me. Just pressure and a massive dump of adrenaline as I peeled out of my plate carrier to find the entry. Same with my leg. The pain came, but for a few minutes.

I dunno, in the large IED I hit, I felt the pain immediately upon awakening. It felt like I had been hit by a semi truck. The only thing I didnt feel was a small laceration but that was the smallest of my injuries.

Millions of dollars of training can create an elite, very well prepared soldier, but a 17 year old kid in sandals with an AK-47 with the home field advantage is still a very lethal adversary, especially if they think they are going God's work.

As Ballen is talking about his experiences it's fairly easy to see that remembering is hard for him. It's almost as if the 'nerves in his stomach' are shaking. He has a lot of those experiences locked in his body. I think talking about it all for the video may help him somewhat. I'm happy he is alive to talk about it.

You always have PTSD locked in your body as physical memories and it overlaps with all the training that's also locked in there.
