As usual, moderation is key. Some makeup and skincare are rightly ordered things. It is only a problem when excessive amounts of money or time are spent or if a wrong intention is given. Of course though, it will be more perfect to focus solely on spiritual goods without focusing on external appearances

I'm here because of my examination of conscience. Anything I'm unsure of, I know Fr. will lead me to the answer. I guess this is a case-by-case basis where God searches each heart. I also had vanity and my appearance be my occasion of sin. I try to wear no makeup at daily mass (unless I have a bad morning and just want to be presentable - human respect though?). I've had traditional Catholic women friends hint for me to not wear makeup like them. My state in life is (separated) married. I feel sometimes that all women on feast days and when representing themselves out in the world, should bring back modest, Catholic femininity, to go against the erasing of genders and bring back God's natural order, and everyone becoming and looking lazier. But on the other hand, if the ultimate goal is union with God, then maybe it's better to think of complete detachment and renunciation and self-abandonment. I pray to the Mother of Sorrows to reveal all imperfections and care less about human respect and self-love. After all, "Christ made my soul beautiful with the jewels of GRACE and VIRTUE" -St. Agnes

Let's all just wear mother Miriam's outfit, and get rid of all of our wardrobe entirely. Will this lead to humility or will this do nothing but keep us focused on other people's predominant faults? When we see our brothers and sisters being immodest, let us think of them as being better than ourselves.

Makeup can be an act of charity. And mercy. It's delightful to see a beautiful woman. In Italy it's called "La Bella Figura" and it's a cultural expectation as a matter of courtesy. "Eat what you like, wear what other people like." Here in Indiana so many let themselves go. It seems rude. Besides, isn't it a matter of justice for a woman to look beautiful for her husband? Per Saint Josemaria: "I often say jokingly that older facades need more restoration. It is the advice of a priest. An old Spanish saying goes: 'A well-groomed woman keeps her husband away from other doors."

I've been thinking a lot about this matter lately and I haven't reached a conclusion yet, but I do know one thing and it is that you can't say that a woman is ugly without makeup, God is the most perfect artist and we are wonderfully and carefully made. Makeup can conceal imperfections but to the expense of time, money, and health (taking into account the toxic chemicals present in cosmetics). You can wear makeup but you are still beautiful if you don't. The key is also to take care of your health and skin, that way you will avoid acne (and even some wrinkles), dark cicles, etc and look more presentable. I think it is a huge lie from the devil if we say that women can't be beautiful unless they change their looks, spend so much time and money doing her makeup, and affect their health. Why God would create such a horrible creature that can't leave her house unless she applies makeup to her face? It's not same the case for men or other animals...

If you have a big scar across your cheek that terrifies people, you can cover it up is what Father is saying. If you don't have scars or anything of that kind but excessively apply on layers upon layers of makeup, then that's the problem.

Most Catholic KZbin channels tend to say tattoos are okay. That never seemed right to me. I eventually thought to search tattoos on Sensum fidelium and I found an answer that feels right to me (I’m going to trust one of the world’s best exorcists on this over showy Catholic KZbin videos). Why is it that there seems to be that the majority thinks it’s okay when it’s so obviously not due to being unnecessary, unpleasing to God and permanent??

Apostolic Nuncio to Kekistan weren’t the crusaders primarily just men who had taken a vow to be a crusader? It’s not like all of them were saints, so like you and me they probably had their own faults. To me that just says that you can’t look at them as a moral compass
@Samson2030
@Samson2030 4 жыл бұрын
Apostolic Nuncio to Kekistan I mean you could be right. Remember though that almost all religious people have some flaws in either their actions or reasoning. If most people were asking what it was they hoped to get out of of their tattoos, it would almost always serve a purpose other than to please God. Although a high bar to set, all of our actions are supposed to please God, from how we treat others down to eating and drinking. If you decide later on that the tattoo was the wrong choice, it’s unrealistic to assume you can get it removed with no issues. Tattooing really does seem like one of the few grey areas in Catholicism. One must think that if there are very religious people that say they are bad, you could never be 100% certain that it’s not. My last point would probably be that I couldn’t personally imagine Jesus Christ laying face down in a dank tattoo parlour getting a tattoo on his back. Do I know that for sure? No not at all, but I would bet a lot of money on it
@Samson2030
@Samson2030 4 жыл бұрын
Apostolic Nuncio to Kekistan my reply was a little all over show but to elaborate a bit more on the first point, it’s really important that we don’t look at religious people and what they do for excuses to get away with certain acts. For example, let’s say your most religious friend or role model started watching Game of Thrones, one might convince themselves that it is an okay thing to do, when we know 100% from Catholic teachings and scripture that it is not. I even personally know someone in the clergy at a decent rank who watches Game of Thrones and does not see it as an issue. We must take from our role models their best qualities, without suffering our own best qualities.
@Samson2030
@Samson2030 4 жыл бұрын
Apostolic Nuncio to Kekistan yeah perhaps the tattoos served a purpose for the war, perhaps not. I don’t really know much about the crusades to be honest. At the end of the day my opinion is that getting a tattoo is *possibly* unwise, *possibly* sinful, and at the very least *definitely* not wise, and *definitely* not pleasing to God.

Trust me, better is being without makeup it is more modesty. Do not like what is in world. When i was 18-22 i wore everyday high heels, makep … i was totally oppsesed with bags, clothes, makeup etc..but then, little by little , when i converted i cut it , because i feel that God doesnt like it. First high heels that were my idol, than mini skirt and tight clothes i just felt very uncomfortable in those things. And than, little by little, i stopped wearing jewllery and doing makeup. Little by little and i feel comfortable with myself how God created me, than i find very ugly when i see women with hard makeup and heels that i like actually before. My taste change and im trying to clean my heart , and pray Christ that He make my heart beautiful, not worrying much about beauty of body. I recommend everybody that kind of emptying of the spirit of the world

No make-up here, and I am wrinkled and grey. It's not my job to decorate the world. Simple, clean clothing with sleeves, a high neck-line, low hem-line, and flats. Always a skirt and head covering at church. I wear some jewelry for the beauty I find in the pieces, not because I think they make me look beautiful. I wear makeup because I have absolutely no color in my face, no eyebrows (they are white), white eyelashes. I am a natural redhead with freckles but I look deathly sick with no makeup on. However, I am modest in my application. But I have to say when people see me without makeup for the first time, they don't know who I am. I want to get my eyebrows tattooed so that I don't have to apply brow makeup every single day. But now, I see that that would be immoral. This talk has opened my eyes. Thank you.

It's a tough decision. Did nature intend for you to look deathly sick? Who knows? I understand your desire to look healthy through the use of makeup. I also think it would be perfectly acceptable to get a more permanent form of colour on your eyebrows. There are some eyebrow tattoo artists that are actually excellent at giving a natural-looking brow that I do not think would look exaggerated. In conclusion, I don't think this would be sinful. I think it would be worse to wear an excessive amount of makeup that is done purposefully to draw the eye. I believe Fr is trying to convey that we only need use makeup if it restores the natural order of things. Anyway, this is just my opinion and I'm open to thoughts.

I am confused as to why it is a sin to get tattoo if it were a tasteful holy image. If it is sinful because it is mutilation and not the natural way our bodies look, why then is it not a sin for a woman to punch a hole in her ear and put metal in it? I'm not trying to justify but im genuinely confused at why one is ok and the other is not.

OWN IT!!! Grey hair can be beautiful. Do remember it is dryer and without some extra care can look frizzy. Instead of gooping up my scalp with conditioners I wash with a moisturizing shampoo then when my hair is still damp I use a tiny bit of coconut oil, the size of a pea, and work it through my hair, If it needs it you can add half as much again to the heavily grey areas. That grey will sparkle and shine without looking greasy. Talk about highlights! Yes I'm old now but was almost 75% grey 20 years ago. Keep your skin beautiful, always keep your brows groomed, keep lipstick no more than two shades different from you natural lip, and wear a simple earring. OWN your natural beauty.

Remember that allowing women to receive Our Lord wearing pants is a concession to the Enemy; an acknowledgement that we are in desperate times in which Satan has been permitted great victory. Padre Pio would refuse women Communion until they not only resumed wearing skirts but also stopped selling pants to other women, and that is the way things should be under normal circumstances.

The intention to wear makeup is also important if you wear it cuz your afraid and unhappy with yourself then its not good but if you just wear it to enhance not alter its good myself had to fast every worldly good cuz i was a mess i didnt know anything of right and wrong now that i do i wear makeup in modesty and only put mascara or something if its a special occasion but to change my outlook i took away all makeup and fake tanning. my whole fast worked of course with confession and now its a normal way of how i perceive makeup and myself. Could you pray for my daughter? She is aged 17 and remains in the stage of wearing a great amount of makeup very often and also dressing immodestly, due to insecurity and trying to get the wrong kind of attention. My husband and i talk to her about it firmly and gently, we pray for her, I fast for her, and still she cannot often seem to pull away from the temptation to wear a lot of makeup and dress immodestly. She is pretty rebellious and "mad at mom and dad" a lot and so she rejects our encouragement to pray about modesty. Since you are a woman who has overcome this weakness, may I ask you to please pray for my daughter? I ask for the intercession of St. Maria Goretti for this special intention for my daughter, too, for modesty and humility. We live in a world that glorifies superficiality and provocative sexuality, and it destroys self-worth and innocence. It is heartbreaking. I ask for Our Lady's mantle of protection and modesty over my daughter. I believe my daughter will overcome this but at present she still succumbs to the call of trying to look in a way that pleases the world, not God. Thanks for your prayers, if you will. And God bless you for sharing your story.

Jeanie DeCoster your a sweet woman of course i will pray for your daughter just say her name i will fast for her too. The thing is to ask God to reveal the root or cause of the insecurity to have Jesus reveal it to her, for myself it was rejection from my father, once i uncovered this i found out the greatest Father is God and worked to impress for His divine love rather then a man to fill a void. I realised the emptiness inside cannot be filled by empty attention from a created person like myself but from the creator alone. Trust in Our lady the undoer of knots for this and try bringing a preist in to bless the house or being close to your parish. Also have u done the consecration to Mary by saint louis de montfort? This you can consecrate your daughter to the immaculate heart of mary as well and will help you and your husband have inner peace if you done this then good the next would possibly seek advice from your preist as well. Often times its something as simple as her being invited to a life teen retreat or sending her on a retreat about chastity their are so many options our faith has. However despite all these suggestions God will and always has come thru and a mothers prayer is so powerful so dont give up God will make a miracle out of this situation 😊✌also its the feast day of saint joseph who is gaurdian of chastity entrust your daughter to him God bless you and your family!!

@jeanie6279

Thanks for both of your replies, and thanks for your prayers. Yes, your'e right about causes. And we are actually pretty well aware of the root causes of her insecurity (repeated bullying from girls during grades 8 and 9, then abuse by boys, both of which injured her deeply and affected her personality, and more bullying now in her 11th grade, plus, also, like you, feeling distant from her Dad who is a wonderful provider and a good man but does not know how to talk to his daughters and who resists spiritual leadership) and she herself is even aware. She also has a good Catholic counselor and doctor she has been working with for over a year but they don't always address these matters fully, and our daughter also rejects invitations to Mass, to prayer, to retreats, and to the Sacraments. When she was younger, 14 and 15, she went on some Protestant retreats with a neighborhood church and had that fleeting "high" that one gets when on an intense and emotional retreat and she would be "into Jesus" for a while, but it was temporary. Then after that she seems to move further away from Christ. She does not have the Sacraments, and for now she won't even consider returning to her Catholic roots. yes, I have prayed for her a lot today to St. Joseph, as well as for my husband and me and our whole family. And I love the second story that you shared about your Mom and brother because I can relate to that as well: I talk too much and I am probably partly to blame for the fact that my daughter resists seeking God in prayer or in His Church. I have likely pushed her away by saying things too often or too insistently. I need to do more like your mother and be quiet and trust in the Lord and the intercession of the saints. I will add a day of fasting and make my fasting a little more strict, too, to focus my trust in the Lord. Thanks for all your encouragements.

But our God sees you caring so much for your daughter but He also cares about you so cast all your cares upon Him. John 6:39Yet this is the will of the Father who sent me: that I should lose nothing out of all that he has given to me, but that I should raise them up on the last day. She wont be lost she belongs to Jesus Christ who created her He is author of Her life and the power of Gods will is greater than her will. Remember Fr Ripperger says pants are okay when they are needed. Mowing the lawn, protection at work, or part of a uniform you must wear, taking the kiddo to the park where you may have to climb or slide etc. Even then you should take care to wear a long shirt, maybe with a cute belt to give you a bit of shape, but gives modest covering. As to the ripped and torn jeans, those are usually worn very tight and should be avoided. Remember also that we should wear clothing appropriate to our station in life. The ripped and shredded jeans are appropriate to what station? Let's say you are desperately poor, a street person, and are offered a pair of jeans. One pair is shredded the other pair are whole and not shredded. From a purely practical perspective you would probably choose the new WHOLE jeans. So the shredded jeans are simply a fashion statement about nothing, "but look how fashionable I am." Usually they are shredded, ripped, and torn from the knees up to above the pocket bag. Deliberately shredded in those areas to draw attention to the areas that should be covered for modest reasons.

AJ Gentile It’s really not ok to wear ripped clothes not even in front of your “friends” you wouldn’t be much of a friend if you were leading others astray. If these kids would have learned anything at all I wish they at least knew who Christ is, & they were to bring Christ to the world; & then they wouldn’t be dumb enough to buy ripped clothes that pre-millennials threw away. News flash: the hole in your jeans won’t help you if an end of a tree branch fell on that gap.

You are too funny. I would wear a lipstick to get of the blue tone as well.

Father failed to mention that it's entirely suitable for women to wear a MAGA hat.

I love this channel generally, but some of the images are portals for the demonic and should not be used.

It's a shame that Father quotes Cardinal Siri out of context. " However, there is another aspect of women wearing men’s trousers which seems to us the gravest. The wearing of men’s dress by women affects firstly the woman herself, by changing the feminine psychology proper to women; secondly, it affects the woman as wife of her husband, by tending to vitiate relationships between the sexes; thirdly, it affects the woman as mother of her children by harming her dignity in her children’s eyes. Each of these points is to be carefully considered in turn." www.national-coalition.org/modesty/modsiri.html

When reading the Bible context is key. The bible verse against tattoos is against marking on the body to dedicate oneself to a tribe, the dead or other. As usual modesty, non excessive, placement and motive play a role if tattoos are okay. But they can be acceptable. One might want to get a cross to dedicate oneself to God. But there is other ways to do that so I would say think really careful beforehand.

I believe in the old testament it says wearing make up and braiding your hair are sins.

But not everything in the old testament is appropriate for today's world. There is much in the old testament we would not do today.

Tattoed Catholics outthere draw more oursiders to the faith than this priest. I consider myself a traditional Catholic but this priest comes across more spiritually empty and square as a pharisee
