You need to make sure your plastic is cooked to 390-400 degrees, Fahrenheit.If you don't have a digital thermometer buy one. It should remedy this. You also need to get good vacuum, no leaks. We seal the top of our model and the vacuum pipe with aliplast. The plastic bonds well to the aliplast.

Wow i use aliplast also. And when i make a crow i pull posterior like normal then once cut and trimmed and ready for anterior portion i pull aliplast around the entire then pull vaccuum to make sure all sealed up then i cut out aliplast where i want to lay the anterior portion. I have found this is way better than wrapping it all in plastic with the pull of the anterior portion. Then when cooles all i have to do is take scissors and cut aliplast and anterior comes right off. Sorry didnt mean to ramble just i have found alot of uses for aliplast

I place material under the heel to match the contour of a shoe. Almost all shoes have a measurable heel height, 3/8" or 1 cm or more. The orthosis is actually in slight dorsiflexion after the footplate is added. It is important to consider the tibial angle and how it impacts the knee. We should most often set these up in dorsiflexion to mimic actual biomechanic angles. This is a big subject requiring more words than this allows.

While on the subject. What is your opinion on heating the mold prior to pulling plastic?

Steve is also wondering if you are still in San Antonio.

What material do you use to make the mold?
@915fubar11 жыл бұрын
I had a question. I pull afos on a regular basis but when I pull the plastic off the mold the plastic spreads. Is there anything I'm doing wrong??
@christrueman96945 жыл бұрын
Mold and let the plastic cool over night. If you don't let it cool completely, the plastic creeps or as you say spreads.

Plastic orthoses are much cheaper to fabricate and no parts necessary, just plaster and plastic...almost. The wearer should have the options, provided they have the money and the orthotist knows how to make them. You use what materials are available. Buckets may work temporarily, but not a viable long term solution.

I'm sorry, I don't have experience with those plastics. I have been lucky enough to have always had the best materials to work with. I have heard of others using old large diameter PVC pipe and such. I can't help you much there. You can email me at Kevin @ Advanced orthopedic designs . com . No spaces.
