Modifying our 2021 Jimny - Episode 2

In this video we perform a few more modifications to our 2021 Suzuki Jimny LCV "Commercial" (two-seater) model. In addition to changing the wheels and tyres, we also add a couple of LED upgrades, rain & wind deflectors and a stainless steel exhaust.

I replaced the H8 fog lights with Fahren LED F8’s. I replaced the H4’s with X-7Sevens LED’s. I added 10 extra lights and as of this day I have 1 Lumen at ~1000 meters.

I love the sound of the exhaust. It's kind of hard to find good audio samples of the offerings out there, but from what I can hear the Highpeak system makes it sound like an old school rally car.

The Forge Exhaust also offers a similar rally car style burble on idle, albeit louder than the HIGH PEAK system. If you had your eyes closed and you didn't know better, you might think that the Jimny is a baby Subaru!

6 months later and I still find myself amused to watch this series. The new exhaust sure did make it more fun sounding. Keep up the good work!! I do hope that in Episode 3 we could see more additions to the rear, side, and interior.

@@JIMNYSTYLE The problem l'm having is getting a lower low range transfer gear without also having a lower ratio high range as well, meaning l would have to fit taller tires which l don't want to do as l find the standard size okay. Jimnys and SJs always look better on white rims, especially the deep dish steel rims that l had on my heavily modified SJ413 lwb.

I guess 215/75/R15 should be a perfect fit as it closely matches diameter of stock tire.

That’s our “go to” tyre size for either the standard wheels or any aftermarket 15x5.5J or 15x6.0J wheels

Thanks for a very informative video. One question, will changing the wheels and tyres from stock to 16 inch 215/70 AT tyres affect the speedo and odo readings?

Glad to hear that you enjoyed it! 215/70R16 tyres will affect the speedo by a tiny amount; off the top of my head it’s roughly 2%

Will the white wheels get ruined if you do a lot of off-roading?

No worse than any other colours! The paint finish on the HIGH PEAK wheels is also super tough - the white set in this video had already been used throughout two harsh winters on salt covered roads, along with roughly 10,000 miles of driving, and they still look as good as new!

Hi Keith, thanks for your message. The impact on mpg was marginal when we originally installed this wheel and tyre combination on our SZ5; after a few thousand miles the average mpg dropped by 1~2mpg if memory serves me right. The BF Goodrich KO2 tyres are quite heavy though, so to help to reduce the impact on fuel economy, there are lighter and slightly more efficient All Terrain tyres available from the likes of Cooper and Falken that might be worth looking at (we can also supply these). I hope that helps!

How do you find the rust treatment from the factory?

Terrible! We’d recommend getting a Lanoguard underbody treatment done every twelve months or so if you can - we sell the kits and you can do it at home if you have the space and time. We’ve left our SZ5 Jimny untreated since we bought it in 2019 and, despite being washed underneath after every day on a salted road, the amount of rust coming through isn’t great!

We used 3M automotive tape. It’s been fitted for a few years now and it’s still safe and secure

Would 225/70 R15 fit without any trouble on stock alloys?

I read somewhere you can put up to 235s on stock rims and suspension without issues unless you go off roading.

We've not heard of 225/70R15 being used, but we have heard of some customers using 225/75R15 with the stock suspension without any issues. However, serious off-roading might cause clearance issues when the suspension is at full articulation. I hope that helps!

Can you remove the tpms sensors and don't put them back ? I hate tpms !

If your car came with TPMS as standard, then removing the sensors will cause the dashboard LCD screen to turn orange and will show a TPMS error warning. This will most likely be an MOT/annual inspection failure, depending on which country you are in!
