I read the book for assignment purposes and this is the summary of his stance on Muhammad bin Qasim: In A Book of Conquest, Manan Ahmed Asif argues that the figure of Muhammad bin Qasim-at least as he appears in the Chachnama-should be understood less as a one-dimensional conqueror and more as a literary and political exemplar of just governance. Here are the key points of Asif’s perspective: 1. Not Merely a Military Hero: Asif challenges the colonial and nationalist readings that treat Muhammad bin Qasim purely as the victorious “invader” who laid the foundation of Muslim rule in Sindh. Instead, he suggests that the Chachnama portrays Qasim as a ruler whose conquests are only part of a larger moral and political narrative. 2. Embodiment of Ethical Rulership: According to Asif, the text underscores Qasim’s concern for justice, fair treatment of local populations, and willingness to negotiate or accommodate local elites. By highlighting these elements in the Chachnama, Asif shows that its compilers intended to present an idealized image of Qasim as a model ruler who balanced conquest with the ethical responsibilities of governance. 3. A Tool for Political Theory: Asif interprets the Chachnama as functioning much like a “mirror-for-princes” text (i.e., a manual on statecraft), where Qasim’s behavior is less about glorifying warfare and more about illustrating how a ruler should behave in a diverse society. Thus, Qasim is cast as an archetype of enlightened statecraft, serving as a lesson for future rulers confronting multi-religious and multi-ethnic domains. 4. Break with the ‘Conquest-Only’ Lens: By reading Qasim through the Chachnama, Asif moves away from the long-standing historical approach that frames Qasim’s arrival solely in terms of an invasion. He argues instead that the text attempts to legitimize rule through moral authority, consensus-building, and respect for local traditions. 5. Contextualizing in 13th-Century Sindh: Asif also notes that the Chachnama was compiled in 13th-century Sindh-centuries after Qasim’s time-so the portrayal of Qasim reflects the political and social concerns of that later era. Qasim’s character, then, is partly shaped by the needs and worldview of those who preserved and reinterpreted his story. In sum, Manan Ahmed Asif views Muhammad bin Qasim in the Chachnama as a nuanced figure-less the straightforward conqueror of popular historiography, and more a literary vehicle for modeling inclusive governance, moral authority, and justice in a pluralistic region.

!! REFORMING THE IDEOLOGY OF ISLAMIC JIHAD FROM THE EARLY CHILDHOOD IS THE ONLY SOLUTION TO RADICALISM, WHICH IS BORN OF SUPERSTITIOUS BRAINWASH ONLY!!!!!! Respected Sir/Ma'am, Kindly go through this message which certainly contains a very practical and realistic method on how to eradicate or rather neutralize the conception of terrorism from the very ideological or grass root level. The most barbaric and superstitious practice known as TERRORISM or JIHAD is fed into the Muslim population from the very childhood. The constant and consistent hearing and chanting of the message - “There is no other GOD but ALAH and everybody else is punishable and condemnable by GOD and shall burn in hell for eternity. All religions except ISLAM are bogus and creation of the Satan. Thus, the followers are condemnable by death, conversion and brutal punishments.” This fashions and moulds a child’s subconscious mind and dedicate/initiates them for the cause of jihad. The environment, where parents, religious teachers, society, and everybody around who are supposed to be guardians of an innocent child - praise, glorify, sympathise, support and are willing to take part in the so-called struggle directly or indirectly to bring ISLAMIC Kingdom or CALIFATE. This so-called holy war or struggle for ISLAM is known as JIHAD and is recommended to every Muslim to attain the highest reward in their spiritual kingdom. Those who sacrifice their lives in such struggles are perceived as martyrs and heroes and are greatly celebrated and become exemplary for every Muslim out there. The religious leaders on whom the common Muslim have blind faith on, propagate that, there is no scope of reform or any kind of rational or logical improvement in the religion and any such attempts are punishable by brutal execution. The words of Mohammad, Quran are heavenly and eternally perfect, such is their belief and this ideology stems from the belief that this material life is only an illusion and temporary, and which should be gloriously sacrificed for the cause of Islam, and Allah shall grant a life of eternal enjoyment in the heaven with 72 enchanting virgins which is the true purpose of this human. Such illogical and brainwashed Muslim families who prioritise religion over everything else encourage each other to beget as many kids to increase the Muslim population at an alarming pace and capture the politics of the country by vote or sheer strength of population to which the democratic countries are much vulnerable. A JIHAD and JANNAT programmed child will only use his/her modern education and all types of the modern advantages that he/she has, for the advancement of the religious cause. And we have seen all the terrorist organization leaders and much of their supporters are very well educated and financially prosperous people. But the only thing they have in common is that they are mentally programmed from their childhood for JIHAD and JANNAT (HEAVEN). Thus, they have used all of their modern education and possessions for the fulfilment and the execution of the cause. So, it’s only a political lie to justify that only illiterate and poor people are superstitious and go for JIHAD and violence. If that would have been the reality, then why it does not happen in any other religion and why anybody belonging to any other religion commit massacre and mass killing as they do in the name of Islam. And also, we certainly have witnessed many foreign Islamic emperors, kings and invaders were not poor and had no poverty, they came and destroyed, massacred countless civilians who did not belong to their religion and faith. Such actions can never be due to their place of birth or origin but rather a deliberate intention or a persistent propaganda bred into their mind. Therefore, the crux of the matter lies not in wealth, poverty, or education, but rather in the pervasive influence of superstition and the perpetuation of these beliefs instilled in their minds since the very childhood. This, without any doubt, stands as the sole and ultimate cause. They are all brainwashed and indoctrinated from the very childhood by the hardcore, fundamental, and violent prone part of this religion. This is the only thing what they have in common. The religion glorifies the destruction of religious structures and idols, attacks on religious gatherings and places of cultural significance, and unjustly enforces taxes on non-believers, known as "jizya," to discourage adherence to other faiths. Such indoctrination and brainwashing have historically produced ruthless Islamic invaders and rulers whose so-called religious or moral duty is to wreak havoc upon non-Muslims, regardless of whether they are civilians, women, children, or the elderly. Women and children of defeated soldiers are often given the ultimatum to convert to Islam or be turned into sex slaves as rewards for the fighters. The world has endured such atrocities century after century since the dawn of Islam. Notable groups such as ISIS, the Taliban, Al-Qaeda, Al-Shabaab, Boko Haram, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and numerous others exemplify this violent ideology. When adherents of such ideologies unite, they can establish Islamic states or caliphates anywhere in the world. Contemporary examples include the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Islamic State Khorasan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and several African countries, as well as parts of India and Europe, which are severely affected by such ideologies. However, today's global approach to terrorism tends to focus on the secondary and ineffective factors such as mitigating the visible effects, such as attacks and threats and missing out the soul and primary cause of addressing the ideological issue at the first place. If such strategies are not noted and swift actions are not taken by governments, it will only be a matter of years before states, countries, and continents become Islamic caliphates. THE EVOLUTION OF THIS RELIGION AND ITS POTENTIAL DARK FUTURE CAN BE ADDRESSED, AND AN IDEOLOGICAL REFORM CAN BE EASILY BROUGHT ABOUT, IF AND ONLY IF IT IS ADDRESSED FROM THE EARLY CHILDHOOD THROUGH A NONVIOLENT, PEACEFUL, AND LOGICAL APPROACH. BY INTEGRATING COMPREHENSIVE LOGICAL TRAINING FROM EARLY CHILDHOOD THROUGH HIGHER EDUCATION, WE CAN CULTIVATE A SOCIETY WHERE REASON AND LOGIC PREVAIL OVER RELIGION AND EXTREMISM. THE SEED OF EXTREMISM AND FUNDAMENTALISM WILL HAVE NO PLACE IN ANY CHILD’S MIND OR IN SOCIETY; EVERYTHING WILL BE ACCEPTED BASED ON LOGIC ALONE. THE PROPOSAL (ABSOLUTE SOLUTION): - • A LOGIC CLASS OR PERIOD (twice a week) - WITH RELIGIOUS LEADERS OR SCHOLARS OF DIFFERENT COMMUNITY. THERE SHOULD BE A PANEL INCLUDING SCIENTISTS, GURUS, THINKERS, PSYCHIATRISTS, POLITICAL LEADERS, FEMINISTS, LAWERS, VICTIMS OF TERRORISM, JOURNALISTS, ATHEISTS, ETC. WHO CAN REASONABLY AND PRACTICALLY EXPLAIN MATTERS. EVERY INDIVISUAL WOULD BE GIVEN AN OPPORTUNITY TO EXPLAIN THEIR RELIGIOUS TEACHINGS AND PROBLEMS in their religion. THE SCIENTISTS, ATHEISTS, FEMINISTS, PSYCHIATRISTS ALONG WITH ALL THE STUDENTS SHOULD HAVE A DEBATE TO QUESTION EVERYTHING ABOUT RELIGION INCLUDING ITS MERITS AND DEMERITS. • And the debate should also focus, about how certain religions provoke the human tendency of addiction to heartrate, revenge, enjoying others brutal suffering, social segregation etc. The debate could be done over video conference; however, a physical debate is far effective. This debate will have a profound effect and strengthen the logical acceptance of matters in human life and will definitely open up their minds for every other religion and faith. • The scientists, psychiatrists, atheists, feminists etc. will give them a practical and realistic understanding of life. They will have question answers back and forth including students. They will be educated properly about superstition and brainwashing and never fall for it. • This should be implemented from the very beginning of the educational system to the end (Kindergarten, Primary School, High School, College, University etc.) to ideologically defeat terrorism at places especially of Muslim population in every country, town and village. • Please consider this message and implement it as soon as possible to destroy the seed of terrorism. This anti extremism formula is INDISPENSABLE, INDISPENSABLE and INDISPENSABLE for all types of religious and cultural issues around the world.

I agree with everything except your perception about Hindutva. Hindutva is a reaction by Hindus to protect their ways of life. Majority of Muslims in the Indian subcontinent never protested against radical gazwah-e-hind attitude towards Hindus. Like someone said a moderate Muslim is one that doesn’t do jihad towards other religions . .. but also never says anything to stop radical voices in Islam. Hindus have been suffering for centuries…even 70 years after partition, the attitude of Muslim towards Hindus in the subcontinent hasn’t changed. Another narrative I read is. - Bin Qasim lays a siege around the capital of Raja Dahir. Even after a year, he fails to breach the fort. Theirs is an understanding amongst the Sindhi troops that if a white flag is hoisted on top of the temple on the hill, they will surrender. At the end of the year, Bin Qasim is ready to call it quits. Apparently a Brahmin minister of Raja Dahir put up a white flag in the middle of the night. Next morning, the doors of the fort were opened. This is one of many stories of treachery by Indians against their own kings. The same goes on with Mir Jaffer and Mir Sadiq.

If you ask as a Pakistani, then the answer is Muhammad Bin Qasim. If you ask as a descendant of the civilisation that is as old as 5000 years. Then Raja Dahir as he was a local king who died defending his country. Now don't confuse Pakistan with Islam. Pakistan as a concept came into existence when foreign invaders who happened to be Muslims wanted locals be to loyal. What better way than to convert locals to your civilisation. They taught them to hate their own ancestors. Take up Arab names and culture. Now don't say it was Muslim culture. Because it wasn't. Turks, Arabs, Slavs, South East Asians all converted to Islam but maintained their ethnic identity. Only in Sub Continent the locals were converted culturally to hate their own ancestors..

The white man colonized our minds-- divided us,ruled over us, used religion to sow discord. It's colonial, imperial, racist bullshit. All of it. There is power and short term success in these tactics, therefore it sticks, for decades, even centuries. We need to decolonise our minds. Then students learn ours heroes and villains both come from all religions. No fake history. Just what happened.

Childhood is a very recent concept where you are a child one day, and after the clock strikes 12 you're magically an adult. It is also said that members of prophet Mohammed’s family took refuge in Sindh after the martyrdom of Hussain. And, the caliph didn’t want any descendant of the prophet to claim the caliphate. I personally think this to be a valid narrative because the consequences of a living descendant of the prophet would pose such a huge threat to the caliphs. There’s even a sect of Punjabis who fought with/for Hussain. To date, they are called Hussaini Brahmins. Bollywood actor Guru Dutt belonged to that community. Sanjay Dutt is his son. Why would any Arab caliph pay so much attention to the remote region of Sindh if his political opponents had not sought refuge there?

The accusation that Muhammad bin Qasim “attacked the Prophet’s family” stems from: • His loyalty to Hajjaj bin Yusuf and the Umayyads, who suppressed revolts by Ahl al-Bayt supporters. • His participation in campaigns against regions and groups that sometimes included Ahl al-Bayt loyalists. However, there is no direct historical evidence of Muhammad bin Qasim personally attacking or targeting the Prophet’s family. His military campaigns in Sindh were part of the Umayyad empire’s expansion, rather than a direct assault on Ahl al-Bayt. Broader Context 1. Umayyad Oppression of Ahl al-Bayt: • The Umayyads are widely criticized in Islamic history for their persecution of the Prophet’s family and their followers. • Hajjaj bin Yusuf, in particular, played a significant role in suppressing Ahl al-Bayt loyalists in Iraq and the Hejaz. 2. Reevaluation of Muhammad bin Qasim: • Muhammad bin Qasim is largely remembered for his conquest of Sindh and the establishment of Islamic rule in the region. • His legacy is seen more as a military and administrative figure rather than a political player in the conflicts between the Umayyads and Ahl al-Bayt. Conclusion The claim that Muhammad bin Qasim attacked the Prophet Muhammad’s family is more likely tied to his association with the Umayyad administration and its broader actions against Ahl al-Bayt loyalists. However, there is no conclusive historical evidence to suggest that he personally targeted the family of the Prophet. His primary role was as a general tasked with expanding the empire in the east.

If Afghanistan is now being portrayed as an enemy country, then the names of Pakistani missiles like "Abdali," "Ghauri," and "Ghaznavi" should be replaced with the names of heroes from Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa who defended this land against foreign invaders. The "geniuses" in our security establishment don’t seem to realize that the Afghan figures they glorified as heroes out of hatred for Hindus and enmity with India-because they massacred Hindus-also massacred millions of Muslims. These figures (like Abdali, Ghauri, and Ghaznavi) were merely invaders and plunderers who did not distinguish between Hindus and Muslims. If the security establishment does not make such changes, then this "new enemy" (Afghanistan) will also appear to be just another political game. Pakistan doesn’t need wars; it needs peace and good neighborly relations with all its neighbors. Promoting a war frenzy is not patriotism.

Baloch have lived in Balochistan for thousands of years, with roots in the ancient Mehergarh civilization. The claim about migration from Syria is misquoted recorded history shows only a small group of Baloch went to fight there and returned to Makran. It’s essential to approach history with objectivity and context rather than emotional or political biases. Muhammad bin Qasim was a pivotal figure in the subcontinent's history, bringing advancements in governance, religious tolerance, and cultural integration during his time in Sindh. His administration laid the foundation for centuries of Islamic influence that shaped the region’s identity, art, and scholarship. While Raja Dahir's resistance is part of our history, glorifying him at the expense of undermining historical facts about Muhammad bin Qasim disregards the larger picture of historical evolution and progress. Both figures represent different eras and ideologies, but dismissing one to elevate the other is neither intellectually honest nor constructive. History should unite us through understanding, not divide us through selective interpretations. Let us respect all contributions to our heritage without compromising on historical accuracy.
