Couldn't disagree more on the scams in the last 4 episodes being 'aimless'. They depict Gene's last sliver of happiness being the adrenaline of the con, but now there's little fear of consequences, a complete lack of ethics, and an environment where there's nothing to live for. This isn't just a depiction of scamming for old time's sake, this is a man at the very end of his rope desperately grasping for hope, albeit one that can only be found through danger. It's the only point in the series in which Jimmy's scams can be read 100% as a cry for help, and a subconscious desire to be caught. They perfectly set up the events in the final two episodes, and are a necessary build-up for the succeeding character development.

its a brilliant parallel to Walt, Walt coulda stopped pretty early on in the series and had enough money to satisfy his original end goal, to make sure that Skyler, Walt Jr, and Holly were financially secure without him, but his sense of pride in his craft, knowing that he was making the best product because he actually understood every chemical change in the process, combined with his jealousy over Grey Matter, started feeding into his ego and ambition until he got to a point where he legitimately would never be able to go back to a life of normalcy. Jimmy McGill didnt have nearly as noble a goal to start off with and ended up being a contrast to Walt, taking all 86 years of his sentence to prevent Kim from falling with him.

The finale was PHENOMENAL, saul publicly embarrassed his old rival, showed he's still the best lawyer around, and then made sure Kim would be able to live her life without worry, all in one massive uno reverse card. Also, all the shot call backs were amazing. Saul's cell shot at the same angle as Jessie's cage pit, chuck being introduced with a shot of the gas lamp + the exit sign buzzing when saul mentions chuck. And finally Kim and saul smoking together in the same way they did outside the courthouse. Phenomenal storytelling even without words

I thought how he changed his name back to "Jimmy" last second was masterful. For me that's when the tear dropped. All this time, since chuck's detah he had been hiding under the name Saul Goodman. That man we know, every second of him in breaking bad was just a man who decided not to feel remorse for his dead brother. In the end, he chooses he's going to feel everything, he's actually going to miss people and experience real feelings, real regret, and so as everything is true now, he goes by the name "Jimmy". No reason to hide anything anymore. Also, i thought the Walt scene was handled perfectly, especially the regrets scene.

What I loved the most about the finale was that even though Saul was imprisoned for life, it was actually a happy ending for his character. All his life he was treated like trash, he even got caught hiding in the trash, but in the end, he was finally in a place (prison) where everyone respected him, because only they knew the value of his existence through all the legal help that he had provided to probably most people who ended up in that prison or at least someone they knew. It was such a bittersweet ending. It was perfect :’(
@LahLow472 жыл бұрын
The finale was masterful. Walter “Heisenberg” White and Jimmy “Saul” McGill. 2 men who felt slighted by the people closest to them. Walter with Gretchen. Jimmy with Chuck. Walter blamed Gretchen and Elliot for his financial problems and Jimmy blamed Chuck for being the reason he could never have his own life. Where others saw crime they saw opportunity but one couldn’t do it without the other. I loved when Jimmy made the point to say without him Walter would’ve been in jail or dead in a month. Jimmy knew the law and how to get in and out of it. Where Walter was a genius at cooking and chemistry he was an amateur at crime. Without Jimmy Walt never meets Mike let alone Gus. Saul only knows Gus bc of Lalo. You learn the origin of Hector in the wheelchair thanks to the introduction of Nacho who was an amazing foundation character in the show. Who was the 1st person Mike cared about in that world before Jesse. The way it all ties together is masterful. The regrets scene with them was my favorite of the whole finale. When Walt says “so you were always like this” referring to Jimmy always being a mischief is ironic being as tho just before that Walt went into a frantic about time travel which is exactly how he’s always been which is too prideful of his own brain. Which in Breaking Bad causes him to make bad decisions over and over again being in the same hole Jimmy is. Both losing the best men closest to them bc of their actions as well Chuck killing himself bc Jimmy got his license revoked and hank dying bc Walt gets mixed up w a militia. So many times they both had chances to walk away or make a better decision and don’t. Yet both did the most for the person they held closest which were Jesse and Kim both of whom got their second chances due to both of them. Walter dying to save and Jimmy locked up to save are both fitting endings for both characters. The way they tied together both universes was amazing and I’m grateful to have witnessed the whole story from beginning to end. It’s a beautiful story.

That chuck angle is far fetched. These 2 characters have 2 different themes going on. Jimmy's character is not about blaming Chuck; the theme is about how Chuck was right all along, that Slipping jimmy was never gone, and with a law degree, he's a chimp with a machine gun. The writers did this by later on putting little flashback scenes of Chuck being an actual loving brother and showing Jimmy's true character, which they have purposely hidden in the first half.

What I love about the black and white episodes and how the show ends in general is that it's not flashy. There's no longer room for theatrics or any overly-cinematic effects. The fact that Saul's life as Gene is all in black and white symbolizes how there's no more excitement left in his life. The only time there was any color in his life as Gene was when he saw his 'Better Call Saul' ads on the old lady's laptop. As Jimmy said to Kim in season 2, he's not a straight-laced lawyer, he's a colorful lawyer. But unfortunately, Gene isn't Jimmy or Saul.

The series ended perfectly. Kim being the catalyst for Saul deciding to stop this mad train of screwing around and going off in honor, as the kind-hearted Jimmy we initially got to know.
@timelapsega2 жыл бұрын
The catalyst for his demise was actually choosing to put the Saul persona back on and con Jeff into silence instead of getting a new identity. Getting Jeff involved led to him meeting Marion, and Jeff ending up with enough $ to buy her a laptop, which led to her finding the videos. He once again took the bad choice road.

Gene also taught Marion how to use the search bar for videos, with the cat videos, thus how she found out he was Saul

Just finished the show. Wow. It’s so bittersweet for showman Saul to transform back into Jimmy. Vince and Peter did it again with a beautiful character arc that comes full circle. He redeemed himself in the best way he could have and we got a glimpse of that good intentioned man again. Loved it. My favourite moment of this show is going in you know Saul as this showman funny guy from breaking bad - we wanted to see Saul Goodman. Then we learn to love Jimmy even more - a loveable lawyer on emotional and financial hard times, a character you can sympathise with. The moment at the end of season 4 where Jimmy becomes Saul is so heartbreaking. From the shows beginning we wanted to see Saul Goodman, up until the moment it actually happened when we realised that we actually want Jimmy to stay the imperfect good intentioned man he always was. I was sat watching those credits role with a pit in my stomach. I’ll never see Saul the same in breaking bad and for that I congratulate the writers.

I believe those Gene moments were brilliantly done, especially when connecting Jimmy's moments with other characters from the past, representing his current state of mind as Gene, as well as seeing Kim's current life while he's backsliding into his old ways, which really helped maintain interest in the episodes' events.

Did anyone else notice how when Gene heard that Kim confessed to the Hamlin scam despite risking herself to a hefty civil suit, he realized that he wasn't alone anymore. Kim owned up to her part of their sin and realized over time that what they did was wrong and that she missed Jimmy. After he learned about the confession, he knew the ball is now in his park. All this time, throughout Breaking Bad, throughout more than 6-8 years of being separated, all he wanted was Kim, despite his eyes being clouded with greed and opportunity throughout his time as Saul Goodman. And Kim, throughout that time, only wanted Jimmy. So when it was time to finalize Gene's sentence, he made that bogus testimony against Kim to get her to see his final spectacle. He blew his plea and took that opportunity to own up to all his misdeeds, even the one with Chuck (which according to Bill wasn't even a crime). He did the most "un-Saul Goodman" thing to do for Kim.. To have her back and to finally have her believe in the law again and go back to developing her practice. Throughout Jimmy's life, he was Slippin' Jimmy. This was the time he finally put that life behind him all for Kim.. Just imagine how different things could have been if the prosecution agreed to giving him the weekly ice cream or if Kim didn't confess or if Francheska hung up too early or if Kim didn't pick up Gene's call.. I love this show. The ending was the least spectacular as you would expect from someone like Saul Goodman and yet it still was the perfect ending. No more Slippin' Jimmy

I love EVERYTHING about BCS, obviously things that the series has already been praised for (the acting, cinematography, writing...) but also 'smaller' things I'd never seen on TV before, or not as well-made: - the depiction of elderly people which in my opinion is the most accurate/most respectful I've ever seen on TV, say bye to your average botoxed Hollywood grandma, this show actually dwells on REAL old people (in a pretty long arc) and it paints an honorable picture - the contrast between the 'mundane' life of lawyers, other normal people, accountants, secretaries, salesmen and whatnot ; and the ruthless life of the drug cartel. If you pay attention it almost never collides in the show until a certain point (that point mostly being Lalo). But when it collides, God damn. It collides hard and BCS being a slow-burner, the buildup works like a charm.
@v4nilla20 Жыл бұрын
I'm a year late but I totally agree! I absolutely adore how REAL and RAW this show is. Yes, it's not genuinely real or raw because it's shot just like any other show with scripts and all, but what I mean is the writers were incredibly skilled at capturing very real things that happen in the world, and a lot of it is realistic suffering and it's complex, just like the world is. Idk I adore this show so much. I thought I loved Breaking Bad, but Better Call Saul just changed me. I don't think anything'll ever top it for me. I notice new things every time I rewatch, and I'm about on my tenth rewatch at this point (I rewatched a bunch BEFORE season 6, but also watched each s6 episode a bunch of times since when it was coming out I was watching with family members and friends separately)

I think it was a way of showing how he would be treated in prison. The gene episodes are definitely a sort of extended epilogue, but I appreciate the show's willingness to do something different like that, to decompress a little, show how the passage of time and the effect the events of both shows have had and to ultimately tie things up in a nice thematic bow. And Waterworks is one of the best episodes in either show.

I cried when Marie first spoke. I cried when Jimmy admitted his guilt. I love how they set-up the speech at the podium just like the one where he got his law license back. He started with a story that was going one direction and then took an unexpected twist... The twist the first speech was a con (Jimmy left the hearing saying it came out so naturally) but the twist in the final speech turned to very honest.
