The scene when David and Lucy share time alone on the moon in the BD was the first time in YEARS I've ever actually felt invested in a romance plot. I felt it. And when she grabs him by the face and tells him not to die on her... I usually never care about romance arcs at all but this one felt so real and natural and David feels like he could be any one of us. Slightly goofy, lost and confused, rebellious in nature and deeply cares for the people around him.

Deeply caring about other people was David's biggest flaw in my opinion. He cared so much that he forgot he was losing himself and was over-chroming, over-working, and going more numb. In the end, we know what happens to as he only lived for others and not for himself. Not even a bit.

He had the HUMANITY to handle much more then your average person in Night City....because he had empathy beyond what is commonly found in the world of Cyberpunk. The ones I care most about? I literally didn't care about any of them with how rushed the "development" of the characters were, and how haphazard and random the pacing of the story was. Watching this show after hearing how "good" it was made me feel like I spent the 4 hour runtime in cyberpsychosis, and now hearing charlie (usually pretty on point with his reviews) say it slaps, I think don't think the cyberpsychosis has ended. This show was pretty to watch and listen to, and that's the only thing it has going for it. Boring, nonsensical and inconsequential plot with absolute dogshit tier dialogue.

@@yungebola5524 while I don't agree with everything said here I do believe people are loosing attention span and enjoy fast paced drama over a fully fleshed out story. I kinda like the fact how pretty realistic it was, not alot of dramatization and just went "f*ck it, you're going in for this ride in a blink of an eye". Just like actual accidental deaths of a loved one, it's sudden, you expect them to turn out fine only to find out they're gone and you process all of that for the rest of the week. The only way it could be more impactful is if we got to see tiny bit more of David and his relationship with his mom alot more but the show made up for it by showing David still unable to move on from her death, literally broke his schoolmate's nose for insulting his mother after her death, having hesitations to kill at first as she sees glimpses of her face, him losing his mind throughout the trauma, killing a woman who had a son and deeply regretting as he basically made that child to possibly end up like him and speaking to himself about her when he's at the top of Arasaka. Establishing how heavy his relationship he has with his mom.

@@dudewhy3287 He didn't speedrun his life. More, it was that his career as a Edgerunner ended that fast. Keep in mind this is all within a single year. When you become a Edgerunner, you don't become a legend by how you lived, but by how you died. It's because you never last long as one. And David really did have nothing left, his first family died, and his second family also died. And he was suffering from Cyberpsychosis from all the implants he had. Even if he didn't have them, he would've eventually succumbed to it, that's how dangerous the Sandevistan was for David's mind. And throughout the show, David never really had a dream of his own, and until the very end, he fulfilled the dream of somebody else. He went to the top of the Arasaka tower, just like what his mother wanted, he went even further than Maine and became known as a legend and has a drink named after him in the Afterlife, and Lucy went to the moon because of him. In the end, David had nothing, but he could fulfill what others wanted.

David's arc in this show is so sick. Night City is a raging storm in the middle of the ocean and David was dragged under when his mother passed away, he was done. When he finds Lucy, someone else who is holding on to this lifeline, her dream, the only thing he can think of is to either drown or take hold of her lifeline as well. Every scene in the show just hammers in the idea that being a good person in Night city gets you killed, I think even David knew from the moment he installed the sandevistan that he had played his hand. Yet he raged against the whole fucked up system, he gave everything he had to try and be someone better. And he failed. He gave up his body piece by piece to implants, he gave up his mind, and still he burnt out before he could reach the finish line. But he still had that lifeline, he wasn't strong enough to pull himself onto shore, so he looked to Lucy beside him and gave her a push. Want to achieve your dreams in Night City? Learn to climb over the corpses of your loved ones. Fucking nova.

David is a standard studio trigger plucky protagonist stuck in a tragedy. A rebel in a world where the underdogs get snuffed out. He was born with almost inhuman aptitude for cybernetics and had access to military grade shit from the get go, and it still wasn't enough to save him from cyberpsychosis or Adam Smasher. Even if you really are special, it's not enough to survive Night City.

Some could potentially disagree, but I think the show being rather short kind of adds to the themes of the show. The events seem so big, but they are such a inconsequential blip in the bigger world. The issues that the characters in this show have only exist for them and the entire rest of the world, and even the entire rest of the city, don't know this is happening. They aren't special, even though their story has a lot of personal and emotionally charged plotlines. They hyped up David and the story for so long, but at the end of the day, no matter how special they are, the weight of the world just comes crashing down and you'll never be able to stop that. At the end of the day, Lucy is on the moon, by herself, with all these people around her who never know what David had to sacrifice for her to get there and they never will know.

And the time with David's mom being cut brutally short is very much thematically on point with the show and the setting. @@crowman5610 I just finished it for the first time. I can't agree hard enough. It saddens me that the shit launch has tarnished it for most people, and that those who still played it after the fixes still don't rate it very highly. I loved it. Especially after Edgerunners and seeing all the tie-ins. I played the Prologue to get a feel for the world, got to the Edgerunners quest and decided to binge the show. Loved it also. Went back to the game, and both experiences were so much better for it. I enjoyed Cyberpunk 2077 for what it was, had some real emotional pay-offs and I enjoyed 100%ing the game SO MUCH that I'm already casually going back for a Corpo run, AND a Nomad run. I won't mention the specifics of any endings, but damn, they are quite good. The most depressing one genuinely had me feeling bad because of the aftermath (and to be honest, the animation, and the VA from V and the other character was fantastic.) I felt so much satisfaction defeating the end-game boss with a *very* fitting weapon from Edgerunners, even if my overpowered V handled the encounter ably on very hard difficulty. It's not a perfect game, but I had an absolute blast with it. It's just a shame more people didn't enjoy it, I'd like to discuss it more often without rolled eyes, judgement or cynicism seeping out everywhere.

True, it is depressing. But the constant reminders of a world in decline and the contrast between these radically awesome, convenient technologies that allow humanity to transcend beyond our frail yoke, and the dark, twisted malice hiding behind their shiny veneer are what give the stories of Night City such tangibility. In real life things are never so convenient, and David's story is a stark reminder of this. He thought the Sandevistan was meant for him. That he wouldn't suffer the same drawback as anyone else simply because he was born different. Honestly, I personally think the reason why David was so in tune with the Sandevistan was because he had the perfect set of circumstances. He watched a Braindance where his mind was aligned with that of the previous owner. Coupled with him already being a straight A student at one of the most prestigious schools (meaning he already possesses an exceptional mind) it gave him exceptional control over the Sandevistan. But his body and mind are still human. He was never born different. He just got lucky, and his luck ran out.

I don’t think it should have many seasons or that kind of stuff. I would like though if the show had maybe 35-40 minutes episodes, instead of 20-25, this would give more time for the show to dive more into characters, making everything more impactful. For example, if there was more set-up for Maine’s psychosis, and more depth on his character, episode six would have been stellar. I also think that if we had more time with Lucy and David’s relationship, we’d be more invested by the time David sacrifices himself. Overall, I think the only characters that didn’t really need much more screentime were David and Kiwi, David because he is the protagonist, and the first episode is entirely focused on him and the rest is his decent into becoming a chrome junky. And Kiwi, dispite not having that much time, didn’t really need it. I loved her arc. She was a cautious and talented player, and we know that she’s the one who took Lucy in, and they actually have a dialogue that cements their closer relationship, and after she finds out about Lucy’s involvement with Maine and Dorio’s death, feels betrayed, and thus turns on them, in the end, when she gets betrayed by Faraday and is close to death, she tries to make up for it by giving Faraday’s location to David and the gang.

I think a speedrun of a show matches what happens in the show and the theme perfectly. Everything, more power, I want it all now. That's what happened and that's how it was delivered. I loved every second. Yes I would love more but I don't mind just having what we had and rewatching. Too many animes drag stuff out for way too long

@@Tom-su4tc Franxx was technically an A1, trigger Just helped. The other big example of a stretched Trigger show it's NBA. That thing was great but so fucking rushed ahaed with the story that you end up not being sure if you get It or not

@@dropkickpherby6994 the only problem with that is people are going to expect it to live up to the first season. People got attached to THESE characters, people aren’t going to want to see new ones unfortunately, and no matter how amazing it is, people are still going to be disappointed that they’re not the same. I don’t think Trigger has ever done second seasons anyway.

i completely agree with everything he said in the video. It feels like it couldve been so much better if there was just more time spent with each of the characters and immersed in the world

honestly 12-13 episodes would be way better, its not too long but not to short and like charlie said, its hard to care when your not given enough time to. 25 would be way too long.

i think is a case you think you want it but not really. a 25 episode show would have had a whole different feel to it and would have needed more sub plots. they show is like a firework goes all out with flashy lights and a bang and before you know it only ashes and smoke remains. trigger did many 25 episode great show but those have more subplots and downtime. ofc I would have loved more time just for the sake of it but I don't think the show would have been better for it. i would love and OVA about rebecca though
