I honestly thought the same thing. Her being a mental health professional and listening to everyone's story's and experiences and her telling them what they are feeling and seeing are not real (until the one time when it was). And then her trying to explain her experiences to another mental health professionals and her therapist disregards her almost immediately and suggest that maybe it's a past trauma they have talked about before that she didn't even mention during her session. For me, it was a moment. Regardless if it's in the person's head or not it's really happening to them and that's how it feels. Take them seriously. Listen, and to them and try to understand where they might be coming from. Instead people just offer the generic response treatment of "it's on in your head, it's not real, just smile, and think happy thoughts." Imo

I think the part about her getting mad when others don’t believe her is meant to show how much of a toll this whole thing was taking on her mental health. I actually thought they did a good job of progressively making Rose go more and more crazy as the movie went along. Because when she first starts seeing signs of it, she is still goes about it in a rational way. But the longer she has the curse, the more desperate she is to get rid of it, therefore making her more defensive when the people she trusts just assume she’s going crazy. I mean, just imagine that you’re literally being tormented by an evil entity to the point where you are physically harming yourself and the people closest to you just write it off as “This b*tch is crazy. Get away from me”

I mean understood it at first but later after she got the police files she literally had the evidence to at least prove that something isn't right and she isn't completely crazy. And she had multiple chances to present it to her fiancé, her sister, her boss and so on. She worked at a mental health clinic so she could have gotten some help, they would have put her under constant surveillance and tied her down so she couldn't injure herself until they find a cure. There is no deeper meaning behind it. Its just that the movie wouldn't work if everyone believed her.

If you watch the whole movie as a metaphor for mental illness (trauma and depression), then it makes sense. The entity is the mental illness. The way it jumps to the next person is a metaphor for trauma - traumatized people will traumatize others (hurt people hurt people...). And the way she gets upset about not being believed - it's when a person finally, when they can't take it anymore, reaches out to someone about their mental health as a cry for help, but only gets "it's not that bad, don't be dramatic, you just want attention, etc" as reply...

@@ktvghn the movie isn't really triggering , it's really not great at all. I'd just save your money. But that's just me , I really didn't like it but I wanted to. @@ktvghn Vincent obviously didn’t watch the same movie I and others did lmao. If you actually watch the movie with an open mind, the movie deals strongly with mental health and how common it is to not receive help until it’s too late or way later on in your life. I myself struggle heavily with depression and anxiety and have for most of my life, so does my cousin we seen it with, and we both really enjoyed it. It’s a great movie, but everyone has their own triggers so if you don’t like seeing a couple instances of suicide, I wouldn’t watch it. One of the opening scenes without spoiling, was a very graphic suicide. It lasts about 20-30 seconds and if you want to turn away you can and then resume watching. I would 100% suggest seeing it, it’s a very good horror movie and has a very good/dark underlining message, and if you use your brain and have an open mind and you aren’t expecting a slasher movie like Scream (some people are for some reason?…) you will enjoy it. If you do go see it, comment back to me and lmk what you think, but yes it’s a great movie and I would suggest seeing it

I think Rose's reactions were pretty realistic actually. She was going through sudden trauma and mental problems from Laura, and then with the curse she became paranoid. Eventually she just wanted someone to believe her, and she'd do anything. Her getting mad at her fiance is because she's already pissed at her therapist for rejecting helping her when she asked, and when she asked her fiance to believe her he refused. These two things combined with just finding them talking in her home would piss anyone stressed like she is, off. Her husband, who didn't want to talk about it with her, instead wants to talk about her behind her back to her therapist who has seen the worst parts of her and knows so intimately the things that scare her the most that SHOULD be confidential. It's a breech of trust. He's getting rumours of her behind her back instead of talking to her because he's a coward, and doesn't care to hear it from her own mouth. I would have called it off.
@restinginn99062 жыл бұрын
I enjoyed the movie. I think it’s a metaphor for trauma and how we all experience it and struggle to cope. Especially those with mental health conditions that feel neglected. Each person’s trauma is their own, in a way no other person can truly understand what they are going through. Similar to how the main character didn’t believe her patient at first, and how she herself felt dismissed about her hallucinations later on. I think another theme was that trauma spreads. The more we give ourselves to others the more we can end up hurt and traumatized ourselves. We inherit each other’s pain. It’s up to us to respond with kindness and empathy to those who are traumatized, and in that regard, I wish the movie had a different ending. I wish she confronted the evil being at the end with love, rather than animosity, for it feeds off trauma and pain. Without that source of pain it would simply cease to exist. And acceptance of that trauma and dealing with those emotions head on is the way to overcome some of that pain, and at least, learn to live with it. Then again it could be a social commentary that we, as human beings, should be closer to one another and never dismiss one another’s pain and/or suffering as hers was dismissed. Either way, I think there is a lot more to this movie than at first glance.

It definitely had some goofy moments in there for me but overall, one of the best, freshest horror movies I've seen in a while, which is ironic because it had the most absolutely generic horror plot. But you're right, it was the execution. The score was crazy good (I actually didn't have complaints like you did about it) with one of my favorite scenes being with the first smile victim and the music during her final moments. Sosie Bacon absolutely killed it, but I'm 50/50 about the ending. There was a really good message there about facing and addressing your trauma instead of running from it, but in the end it didn't even matter. And then like the most unproblematic male character in the movie gets fucked next. It was depressing but I mean, I guess that's horror for you.
