**SPOILERS** I mean, King Shark didn't do much to affect the mission, but the mission isn't really the ultimate point. The characters were the focus and he was one of the most simply yet well-developed and endearing characters in the film. All of the characters came to genuinely care for one another and it started with Ratcatcher II and Nanaue. Even Peacemaker cared, he was just a psychopath with a singular focus. It's sad to watch the movie again and see the little moments he has with Flag and Cleo and then to see him kill one and try to murder the other. Anyway, Nanaue was not mission critical, but he affected the audience and the other characters in a big way. Same goes for Polka Dot Man. If not for him, who would have shed a tear for Milton?

Polkadots Man actually disintegrated a huge chunk of Starro's "leg". If he wasn't crazy and celebrated too early, he could've just spammed his dots and kill Starro. He's also the one responsible for Starro breaking out too early. If he didn’t panicked and shot the bomb, Rat Catcher could've warned them about Starro and they could've made a plan to contain and kill him.

@@simuna6921 his character arc was dealing with his mom and instead of his backstory playing, Gunn substituted that in with having his mom pop up instead of the targets from his eyes. I think it was clever and what made suicide squad (2016) not the same going thru and explaining everyone. He used flashbacks differently and instead of telling a characters past, he went back to see other perspectives, so instead of using one simple easy way to show off everyone, he instead finds creative little ways to add more dynamic. Polka dot man imo had that baby griot innocence but proving he was still strong just like baby groot did. I’d rate it high 90s. Best dc film up to date, and beats out most MCU ones too.

I really like how there's subtle references to the comics aside from the obvious ones in the movie. Harley Quinn's fight scene with the flowers and the cartoons is a reference to the older comics where it explains she literally doesn't see anything wrong with violence/killing people because she just sees birds or happy stuff on top of the blood. Also kudos to Captain Boomerang finally actually using his boomerang as a boomerang and not just slicing people with it in the first Suicide Squad film.

I think the real thing this movie accomplished is actually giving the audience a reason to worry about the characters and get invested in the action. The characters are not only likable but the fact that any of them can realistically die at any moment makes the whole experience more intense and gripping. A guy who could smell the future could actually be used in some pretty interesting situations. The power is vague enough that there would be suspense from the lack of clarity in the prediction. Like, he could walk into a building and smell ash and smoke and be like “you guys smell that?” Later the building would catch fire his power gave him just enough warning to save the team. He could meet someone and smell the stench of rotting flesh on them and suspect they were going to be killed soon. Maybe he’d meet someone and smell blood and gunpowder from them. He’d think “I gotta save this guy from being shot” but the twist would be that guy was actually the murdered and the one who shot the gun and got others blood splattered on him. That power could actually be pretty interesting.

Major Spoiler: PolkaDot Guy was *extremely* pivotal to the movie in that if not for the randomness of his polkadot thingies the explosions in the building would not have gone off prematurely. That was the cause and setup of the entire last act. Couldn't have taken place without him. Would have to have been totally rewritten. Really his only reason for being.

Rick Flags would be dead and peace maker would have the secret info. Which means Peace Maker would have stopped the last act(stopping Starro) which would have changed the entire last act.

@@ShadowSparksX For this movie a cliche ending isnt even that terrible, also the way starro was defeated wasnt cliche at all and I was just sitting there "no way this is gonna work, right?" One of the big problems with the first one was that it took itself 2 serious, the new one lets you know at basically every moment that its not a super serious film with a big plot or something. Its just a movie thats supposed to be super fun to watch without any big plot lines and sht going on. Better than the first for sure.

I feel like Pokadot could be really useful when fighting small Starro drones, just imagine him spraying into the sky and annihilating all the small drones. Like he was perfect for the Starro boss fight but just got killed off way too easily

I could totally buy him just not being very competent or controlled in combat and not doing anything, but it definitely was pretty lame that he didn't do anything. The fact that he died so easily was especially disappointing. His death wasn't emotional, funny and didn't serve to increase the stakes.

Polka-dot man had to die in the end scene because he could beat the thing by himself since his power actually hurt the monster. So he had to be written out for the rest of the team to do something.

@@Joseph-ic8xd Yes the writers could have come up with another thing to stop him from being effective, but the way presented the monster literally couldn't kill him outside of the smaller ones attaching to his face which apparently can be beaten by a mask or shielding your face with your arm. The monster did explicitly melee/physical attacks and his polka-dots disintegrated whatever they went through so smashing him would legitimately be impossible as he could just disintegrate whatever came at him.
