Not sure if you want MY reasoning or not, but yeah here's what i think Normally when you're afraid you want a place to hide. A bed is comforting but it isn't hidden, and it might even remind you of what you're trying to hide from. It's tougher than a bed so maybe the Joker wanted rigidity. Something stable in his life to hold onto. Also sound proofing might play a part. Do I think this is the best explanation? No, but it's atleast a reason. Hope I didn't waste your time
@DravicPL5 жыл бұрын
@@J_Shingy53 You are completely off the mark. Old designs of fridges made it almost impossible to open from the inside. Plenty of people IRL died from going inside on purpose or worse, by accident not knowing they won't be able to get out (children mostly, while playing). It was a suicide attempt.

And his backstory is so fucking sad it makes you realize that he doesnt do fucked up shit for the fun of it. Hes just very mentally unstable once he realizes that his whole life has been a lie, and then all the bullying from people he had to deal with on the streets or in everyday life just broke him. I give it 100%, as a perfect example of its type. Agreed. When you think about it, Heath Ledger’s Joker was THE Joker: a cypher with a constantly changing backstory. We don’t know where he came from or what made him insane, and that’s one of the things that made him such a great super villain; the antithesis of Batman. We understand Batman, we know his back story, in depth and detail, and we understand why he does what he does. The Joker is the opposite of Batman, in spirit and intentionally, because he’s the antidote to Batman; his greatest antagonist. We can’t understand his desire for chaos, which is one of the things that makes him so scary, and which was explored so brilliantly in Nolan’s vision of him, as an Uber-Terrorist, who’s very existence is a counterpunch in Batman’s face; simply existing to love everything that Batman hates, but even the Joker understands that he’s nothing without Batman’s Yang to his Yin. The Joker needs Batman, and tells him so. “You complete me,” he says, referencing Jerry McGuire. And, Ledger, I’m convinced, would have won the Oscar for his masterful performance, had he lived, regardless. No one thought there would ever be another, or that it could be, or should be, topped. So, to take on the Joker’s backstory, and answer the very mystery that makes Joker who and what he is, was beyond dangerous! It was not just bold, straying into taboo territory, it was downright heroic! The accusations of hubris and stupidity that would have been levelled at the director, DC and at the star, had this movie failed, would have potentially ruined careers, including that of Phoenix, who had by that point, already danced on the edge of the precipice with some of his choices. Especially, that documentary that no one comprehended, and which alienated so many people on talk shows? Yet, not only did they DARE to tell us how the Joker came to be, defying the critics, which were already legion before the movie came out, but they also refused to compromise the vision of Joker in the teeth of so much ill-informed, un-thought-out, anti-violence opposition. All this, at a time when the DC universe was on its knees, desperate for a win! The epic failures of their flagship enterprises; the Justice League and the Superman V Batman battle, which had been teased so long ago in a Will Smith vehicle about vampires, had made even the most loyal fans sceptical at best, and downright hostile in most cases. But, this all wound up making the TRIUMPH that is Joker, all the sweeter for everyone involved in that project; from the writers, director and stars, to the key grip and Dolly guy! Every single one of them can now roll up their sleeves, show off their scars and say, “I won these scars at the Battle of The Joker SJW’s,” with pride! And people will remove their hats, shake their hands, buy them a drink and say, “Thank you for your service.” Because we now have one of the greatest movies in the DC cannon (only rivalled by The Dark Knight) and one of the greatest psychological thrillers ever made! A masterpiece, with a story of suffering behind it, like all great masterpieces should have. One of the best movies in anyone’s collection; up there with North By Northwest, Alien, Aliens, Terminator 1 & 2, Cyrano De Bergerac, It’s a Wonderful Life, Jaws, Duel, the first Planet of The Apes, The Big Country, True Grit, The Searchers, Metropolis, Dirty Harry, Unforgiven, West World (the movie), Some Like It Hot, Singin’ In The Rain and, as you can tell by now, I could list SO MANY more. But, Joker is right up there with that lot, and it’s obvious inspiration, Taxi Driver. True Art, is not yet dead in Hollywood. Joker is your proof ✌️👍
@ashroskell4 жыл бұрын
@@rsgblue5366 : I don’t think its Taxi Driver inspiration was meant to be a secret? The presence of Dinero is a nod to that. Informed audiences were meant to know that, going in. Whilst younger audiences, who may not know about Taxi Driver, now have a reference to look into and expand their movie appreciation. The director quite happily admits to the inspiration and openly discusses its comparisons and differences. Seeing it as a rip off will mar your enjoyment. Enjoying the homage, will enhance it. Maybe come at it with more of a, “Glass Half Full,” perspective? Respectfully . . . ✌️
