Your channel has just become my most favorite channel here on KZbin. I'm binge watching all your videos right now for they're very informative. You have such beautiful skin and face. And I find you really classy and smart. You inspire me so much. Now I'm even more serious to take care of my skin. Skin first, makeup second (although, I only wear makeup on some days). I didn't really care about my skin care routine before. I just cleansed and moisturized. I even scratched my nose with my nails, thinking my blackheads would go away without knowing that I was just worsening it. I have a combination skin. My nose gets oily that the pores and blackheads have become noticeable. I have tiny bumps above the apples of my cheeks which started showing up three days ago (what are these things?). I also tend to break out when I don't get enough sleep or when I eat too much sweets. But ever since I avoided doing any of those I noticed a positive change. My pimples have healed, and it's the post inflammatory hyperpigmentation I'm now dealing with. Healthy diet and lifestyle really do affect. So here's to taking care of the skin the right way. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Thanks to you I'm now more aware. 😀 P.S. I'm new to Korean skin care products. I'm eyeing to try them since some Western products tend to be a bit harsh on my face and they also contain ingredients which are not good to the skin. What's your advice in dealing with blackheads and oily nose? I'm also looking for a good moisturizer. I live in a humid country. The previous moisturizer I used just made my nose even oilier that I would blot twice or thrice a day. Thank you so much! Looking forward to more of your skin care talks. Have a nice day! :)

The tiny bumps are likely something called Milia, which occur when dead skin cells get trapped beneath the surface & form what are essentially tiny cysts. They are very common & sometimes resolve on their own, but the best thing you can do for them skincare-wise is to add a well-formulated BHA to your routine. Paula's Choice has several in different strengths & textures, & for very reasonable prices. BHA can also help a LOT w/ pores & blackheads, as well as skin texture & much more. Hope the info helps!

It's also dehydrated. Thanks a million :)

Until recently my non-Asian friends would be aghast at my moisturizing routine - at least toner, liquid lotion, emulsion, gel cream/cream. Now that K beauty is mainstreaming, I'm so happy to see so many adding hydration prior to moisturizing; and love the access to products stateside. I'm of the light layers persuasion, and more so as I age because it's so easy to customize to current needs. Always lovely to learn more about ingredients, to make better choices, great presentation!
+Gothamista I think I have combination skin because I have ache and huge pores but when wearing liquid foundation (sephora hd def) it's so flaky and No amount of moisturizer helps the makeup stay on. I am hopeless so I have decided to not touch makeup and just focus on getting my skin in it's natural healthy state. Can you help me get started on since the beginning to end it's very overwhelming.

I know this is an old video, however, it's great! I'm just in love with your style of making videos. This probably has no sense, since it's a year old, but since you've asked about skin type I have a question - is it possible that I have a "gentle" or "delicate" skin type? I feel like my skin doesn't completely fit in the usual categories, because "sensitive" is easily irritated, has redness and other skin trouble, while mine is quite healthy but if I don't treat it nicely (harsh creams, harsh makeup, stress because of relationships etc.) all hell breaks loose. I can't stand a lot of famous brands(clinique), "natural" or "sensitive approved" ones included (like clinique), it feels as if the skin would throw a fit. I know it sounds a bit crazy but I've noticed it so often - it gets dull, dry, oily, pale, or just plain weird. Anyway, all of your recommendations so far made wonders for me and it completely changed my skin. It feels like home, I love being in it now. :)

Another fantastic and informative video. Upon first discovering your videos I realized learning the vocabulary was half my confusion, that all these hydration terms were not at all as synonymous as I had though. I would say since the age of about 24, my skin has become more evenly oily with hormonal acne, where it had been quite combo-oily with utterly unmanageable acne. And after the videos you created, I use the Missha First Treatment, Missha Night Repair Ampoule, Gokujyun Lotion, and recently have tried the Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic+Retinol Serum, which I think I really love. With the products you've recommended, this is still the clearest my skin has been since I was 12. I also useless the Dr. Jart+ Trans-Foam Clay in Refreshingly my Green.

Woofgang Use Cerave or Eucerin products! Try to avoid fragrance, essential oils and extracts. Look for products labeled for sensitive skin. Products that say noncomedogenic and/or hypoallergenic. Find products that have basic ingredients like glycerin or better-hyaluronic acid, ceramides. Niacinamide is also nice if you're not allergic/irritated by it. Cetaphil is decent too and good for sensitive skin but nothing special. Hada Labo is good for its hyaluronic acid and not so much added irritants.

Hey Renee, thank you for such a informative video! Could you talk a little more about dimethicone in moisturizers? I don't really need the smoothing effect from it and I'm wondering if it's pore-clogging. I also read that as it fills the pores, it creates a barrier so that it's harder for skin to breath or absorb moisture. It's really hard to find moisturizers without silicone, so I want to know if it actually does more harm than good.

You can mix a few drops of the oil in your cream to make it more hydrating or a drop in your foundation if it's a matt one. And then finish of with a fine (very important) powder on the places you need it. It's better to have a mosturized base when it comes to most foundations and tip! Waterbased foundation tend to cling a bit less to dry patches and use thin layers. I hope this will help you!

Amazing video, I finally found out more about skincare ! I didn’t know about the liquids and emulsions. I was wondering why my skin feels so dry and now I know. I was putting moisturizers that made me feel like they were sitting on top of my skin and not really going deeper. I can’t wait to try products based on humectants. Thank you so much for this video! ❤️

I keep hearing about that we need occlusives to stop trans-epidermal water loss. It's important for me because I live in a dry climate and using HA just doesn't help to hydrate my skin I need to seal it in. Do I need an ointment or the little occlusives we have in creams are enough?! I'm a summer-oily/winter-combo/dehydrated skin + rosacea and fungal acne skin lol and I'm so lost haha

That's exactly my kind of weather + skin type aswell. Currently struggling with mild fungal acne too, in this very dry weather. Propolis and honey help a ton, as they act as amazing humectants with anti-bacterial and anti-fungal abilities. I personally love Skin food's Royal Honey Propolis essence. It's so soothing and hydrating, with a bit of an occlusive feeling. I've been applying that after cleansing with Nizoral shampoo (the anti-fungal). I sometimes do 7 skins of Soon Jung's toner, which is very simple and soothing, PERFECT for very sensitive skin. Focus on hydration, simple ingredient lists and avoid most facial oils for now.

@@fafitah Ohhhhh, thanks so much for your reply it means a lot! I will try your advice. I just received the Nizoral shampoo. The fragrance and color is a bit intimidating, but I'll do it! I will also look into the Royal Honey Propolis essence. Thanks a lot! 🙏

9:00 - This part is very important for hydration. Multiple layers as opposed to just 1 thick layer. It took me quite a while to understand what true hydration is and how to do it. I used to think hydrating toners were essentially useless, but no they are key to achieving that proper hydration, because you want to start really watery, and then work your way up to the thicker stuff with subsequent layers. That way each next thicker layer will sink into the skin far better than it otherwise would have. If you just slap a thick moisturiser onto your dry skin (or even still-wet out of the shower), it's just not going to sink into the skin very well at all and it'll also provide hardly any hydration. Even the thicker hydrating toners/"lotions" from Japan will sink in much better with a watery hydrating toner before it. I personally don't want to wait around for like 5 layers of hydrating toner to do it's thing, so I just put a bunch on at once and then put a silicone mask on and wait for 2 minutes, before moving onto different thicker layers. I use the Experiment Beauty Avant Guard silicone mask, and BOY is it good. The watery hydrating toner is just the Naturie Hatamugi, because it's cheap and the mask makes it work quickly. There's other still-watery-enough more-expensive-but-still-cheap-enough toners that don't need so many layers, though (the Cosrx propolis one, the Beauty of Joseon Ginseng Essence one).

I have dry skin but find I need less in the hotter months, so I often just use an essence and maybe an emulsion and skip the lotion/ cream during the day. Thank you for your very informative videos, they help explain so much!
