Figuring out that my skin could be oily _and_ dehydrated was a game changer. I used to wash my face with Neutrogena's oil free face wash, and then never moisturized. My skin around my nose, forehead and eyes would flake, and only at that point would I apply just a tiny bit of a Cetaphil moisturizer, which wasn't the right one for my skin, so I'd break out even more in the areas I used it, and stop using it. And then the cycle would repeat itself. My current routine involves cleansers that do not leave my skin literally _squeaky_ clean, and I moisturise twice a day, among other things. My mom really thinks that people with oily skin don't need moisturiser, and that my skincare routine is a bit excessive, but although my acne still flares up, my overall skin health is a million times better than it's ever been since I hit puberty. My skin hasn't been flaky in years now, the little spots caused by sun damage around my eyes are gone, my skin texture is more even, and my oil production has gone way down! I no longer feel and look like a glazed donut by the end of the day lmao. Not being in actual pain has been life changing. Not wondering if I'm gonna powder my desk with flakes when I inevitably scratch my very itchy face in school. I don't feel embarrassed about my skin anymore. Another big change: I feel like I have actual _agency_ now! The condition of my skin felt out of control for so long, and I felt doomed. I felt like there was nothing I could do to help my skin. But once I started learning about how skin actually works, that feeling stopped. When my skin introduces a problem, I feel like I have the power to find a solution. Knowledge and understanding truly is liberating!

That's basically any moisturizer. You could look for a lotion or cream ( if you want more oil ) or if you want more hydrating then a gel based one. That all depends on your skin type.

Ancient Egyptians followed three simple steps to take care of their bodies: cleanse, treat and moisturize. They used dead sea salts to remove impurities, then washed with a soap made of clay and oil. Once a week, they would hydrate their skin with a mixture of milk and honey.

Also The Curel Sensitive moisturizer is fantastic for under eyes and on smile line and neck and body it's inexpensive. But has ceramide and Patrollium and made a huge difference under my eyes. BUT, before any hydration or moisturization can be really helpful you need to EXFOLIATE. Especially for us older people, our skin isn't turning over as quickly and this is why we often think our skin is dull and why we feel these products aren't working because they aren't penetrating as well through a dead layer of skin. I'm convinced this is why so many older people think they need a butter like formulation for their skin, always need something richer because they feel nothing is really working, when in fact it is all just sitting on this crust of old skin! I know I have been there. Exfoliate and you will find your products work better and your skin looks better too! Great video! There is a lot of language around skin care and we need to know it so we can help ourselves better.

Hi, love you and your videos! Just wanted to mention that honey and beeswax aren’t always harmful to bees (though ofc some are sourced badly, so I understand why some people don’t want to use them) but actually most alternative forms of honey and beeswax are usually REALLLYY bad for both the environment and bees themselves!! A lot of bees are usually killed to make room to make some of those alternatives! Which ofc also wrecks all the other nearby plants! They’re also often veryy toxic so after using them, the environment can reallyyy suffer afterwards. Ofc I trust you to do your due diligence and proper research and come to whatever decision feels right to you as many of these issues have no one right answer, but just thought it’d be nice if you could mention those nuances when mentioning topics like this so people watching could do their own research as well on what really is a very, very complicated topic and come to a decision that feels right for them. Environmentalism can be hard and there’s no one right way to do it, but some things are definitely a lot more complicated and less straightforward than others so we should treat them as such instead of just assuming one way is automatically better than another! Oftentimes, doing that is what gets us into trouble in the first place! Just wanted to give you a little info in case you were unaware or wanted to look into it further. Again, love your videos and thank you for the great content!❤️

Agree . There's almost always a way to harvest natural products (and food) in a sustainable, ethical, and environmentally-friendly way. It's usually the larger corporations and big agriculture that like to cut corners, ignoring the implications of unethical harvesting. Thing is that modern veganism/environmentalism became very dogmatic .. pretty much a religion and treats everyone as whole, blaming all even the consumers.

I bought the Juice Beauty one a while back, the dang $65 one 🥴 with the “stem cells” and it just doesn’t do much on my skin, I have normal to dry sensitive skin (it leans more on the dry side) and I somehow feel more dry after using that even though it is a thick cream. Same with the Pacifica one in the purple jar, they just aren’t very emollient, and I’ll wake up with my skin feeling slightly dryer than normal. Oddly enough my skin does really well with Skinfix triple lipid barrier, the pyunkang yul moisture cream, and the kiehls moisturizer. I have seen that those make my skin feel the most bouncy/moisturized.

What are good ways to keep your hands moisturized and hydrated. I am a CNA, so I am constantly washing my hands and using hand sanitizer, As a result, my hands always have eczema and are uncomfortably dry.

Interestingly enough oily skin usually means you are dehydrated (not all the time though) because when you're dehydrated your body works even harder to create moisture for you skin, which means it could start overproducing oil to provide your skin with moisture, unfortunately this can lead to clogged pores and eventually acne. So long story short stay hydrated whether that'll be through drinking water or finding a hydrating moisturizer 👌

This came at such a good time! It’s only the end of September and I’m already wearing sleeping masks during the day. For some reason my under eyes are just feeling parched AF. Like I’ve had to start using cerave ointment as an “eye cream”

Hyaluronic acid just doesn't work for me unless the humidity is high. I can't use it at all in winter as the air is too dry. I've tried to lock the hydration in, but it just isn't enough for whatever reason. BUT, I love hyaluronic acid once summer hits and when the humidity is high! Then, it works great and makes my skin looks nice and bouncy!

Ever since I start to watch your videos on Facebook you became my favorite person of skincare. I’m from Venezuela but I like to buy things from Walmart, I found a brand called Skin Proud because I want to buy good things but I have a low budget. My skin is sensitive and dry so I try to be very careful on the products I use. For now I’m using the cetaphil gentle cleanser for dry skin and the cerave moisturizing lotion for dry skin, that’s all my skincare but I would like to incorporate more products on my skin just that i don’t know what to use🙇🏻♀️ I love all your videos and the way you explain everything♥️

I wonder if you could use cooking grade sunflower oil, like the one was shown here? I heard sunflower oil is rich with vitamin e, but if I'm not mistaken vitamin e should be kept in non transparent containers. We do use a lot of sunflower oil in our everyday cooking so I was wondering if that works too, or should I get one specifically for skincare.
@Kiterpuss3 жыл бұрын
In short, yes you can! There's no difference between the stuff for cooking and the stuff in skincare. The only thing to worry about is ensuring that the sunflower oil you buy is actually 100% sunflower seed oil and doesn't have other fillers or preservatives. There's no different in molecule sizes or specific chemical makeup unless your skincare specifies something like "sunflower seed esters."
@Anne-kz4fi3 жыл бұрын
@@Kiterpuss Thank you, I'll check the ingredients first.
@eduardaarrais3 жыл бұрын
@@Kiterpuss actually, there is a difference. Facial oils go through different processes to prevent them from attracting dirt and pollution from the air, which is something oils do on their own - they sort of act like a magnet for dirt and other stuff. Not only that but most face oils also contain other ingredients that help you wash off the oil in the morning without the need of surfactants - although how easy that is might change from brand to brand.
@Kiterpuss3 жыл бұрын
@@eduardaarrais "Facial oils" have a variety of ingredients that all do different things. But pure sunflower seed oil is pure sunflower seed oil; INCI doesn't differentiate different grades or molecule sizes like you find with some ingredients (i.e. zinc vs nano zinc), which is what OP asked.
@eduardaarrais3 жыл бұрын
@@Kiterpuss the OP didn't mention molecules size anywhere in their comment. They asked if cooking grade oils could be used or if an oil meant for skincare was preferable. Ence my reply explaining that these two are indeed different.

Question: Okay, so can oils transfer nutrients into your skin? I'm tryna figure out if cuticle oil is really as important as ppl say it is. After this video I know that cuticle oil doesn't add water to the skin but every nail tech swears it's a "critical step to keeping nails healthy". But how though? I imagine it could lock in water from when you wash your hands but in my experience most places put it on after the service - at least a few minutes after you've washed and dried hands. So what is it really doing to benefit the cuticles, nails and fingers? Is it delivering nutrients or something else or is it all lies? 😭 I love the nitty-gritty details and science-y stuff, thank you & hope you keep it coming!

@@mojo5398 Sometimes brevity is not a friend of communication. And if that was what you meant then I absolutely have no issue. But I admit I didn't see anything in the OP that limited the comment to just k-beauty and brands like the ordinary. It seemed to credit the overuse of certain additives and/or maybe the initial cause of the sensitivity to those additives to those types of skincare products, but not that they were the only place to be found. I was buying Aussie products with tea tree oils and other products with aloe vera ages ago before it became a thing. I'm sure many people were.
