Part of the reason he did this was to show people that he actually has a voice & range & not just gravel & scream like he usually does. “The Sound of Silence” comes to a close with a warning, pointedly calling out the all-consuming consumerism and using those already lost to it as an example of what’s to come if we continue to find solace in the silence. A new generation has been introduced to the iconic song, but they also may have missed out on its meaning, one that is just as important if not more so today then it was six decades ago. "The sound of Silence" is and has been taking over everyday interactions in society. It's not often that we actually speak to one another. We text, we email. we post on Social Media etc. etc. interactions become all the more surface-level and indifference continues to grow. ~People talking without speaking ~People hearing without listening ~People writing songs that voices never share ~No one dared ~Disturb the sound of silence I love his voice. He nailed it big time. Paul Simon told him the song is his now. Simon shared in an interview with Playboy I used to go off in the bathroom, because the bathroom had tiles, so it was a slight echo chamber. I’d turn on the faucet so that water would run - I like that sound, it’s very soothing to me - and I’d play. In the dark. Hello, darkness, my old friend / I’ve come to talk with you again Simon pinned most of his songs in bathrooms.

Suggestions: 1) The cover of "Zombie" by Bad Wolves (original by The Cranberries.) 2) The cover of "Stairway to Heaven" by Heart, performed at the Kennedy Center Honors. Led Zeppelin--the original artists--are in attendance, and the camera spends a lot of time showing their reactions. Jason Bonham, the drummer for Heart's performance, is the son of John Bonham, the drummer for Led Zeppelin, who died in 1980 (his death is the reason the band broke up.)

I've heard this well over 1000 times, it gets me every single time. As for other mindbending covers, as others said Johny Cash doing Hurt by 9 inch nails. F***ing brilliant. I would also recommend Shinedown's Simple Man. Like the song you just listened to, it is one that originally fit the times by the original artist, now brought to the modern world with the angst, uncertainty, and rawness that your generation can - with all you've had to deal with - identify with.

You should also watch the Conan Show live performance of this song, it is magnificent. It was so good that Paul Simon, the songwriter, sent them a letter telling them how much he enjoyed it. He also promoted it on his social media, which is something he rarely does for a cover of one of his songs. They thought about doing a metal version of it but realized that going the other direction was the better choice, to honor one of the most iconic songs of the 60's. Draiman spent three hours in the sound booth, working out how he wanted to sing the song.
@mattblatchley20616 ай бұрын
fascinating song and rendition! The original by Paul Simon (Simon and Garfunkel) was unbelievably iconic in the 60s...so it had a LOT of weight behind it already, but then this version blew up huge and Paul Simon even shouted David Drayman out on Twitter in approval and appreciating after he did it live on Conan O'Brien's show... you owe it to yourself to listen to the original as well even if you don't react to it...both are ASTOUNDING---GREAT REACT!!!!!

Watch his performance on the Conan O'Brian show! David had the flu and high fever so he was sitting down, but he still sang flawlessly! David was trained as a Jewish cantor but got into heavy metal! Oh man, you should have just done the live version from Conan. Straight up better than the album version. Please react to that version too!

Boring, he's already done it now, it's not a genuine reaction if he does that

I agree 100%. The live version is wonderful, and supposedly, he was sick as a dog at that performance.

The original was sung by Simon and Garfunkel. Paul Simon wrote it; it's about the growing loss of communication between people. No one listening to each other. Art Garfunkel has the voice of an angel and the songs is soft and sad. But the impact of the lyrics was lost in the beauty of the vocals. David Draiman brought this song to a new level. Instead of soft vocals giving a warning about the darkness of miscommunication; David draws us into the story with the sadness of black/white visuals and melancholy vocals. The erosion of musical instruments on one side of the chasm and the unearthing of written music on the other side. As the story plays on he is getting angrier as the warning is not heeded and the musicians travel to find voices. In the end the musicians find the vocalists and sail across the chasm to bring us music to communicate with. A brilliant story, and to me, the truth behind music.

David Draiman does Not use auto tune. This is stated in multiple reaction videos by Professional Vocal Coaches. David is simply an outstandingly talented classically trained vocalist, a virtuoso of the very finest kind.

It could be you heard it in Eminem’s song “Darkness” which is not this singer nor the original Simon and Garfunkel.

You should re-watch the video now without the pressure of doing your reaction video and thoroughly enjoy the lyrics,his voice, and the artistic visual of the video. It will calm you. This singer is one of the best human beings walking the planet right now. I've seen how he treats people, how humble he is, I've listened and watched him talk about his trials with drug and alcohol addiction and how honestly and respectfully he treats people dealing with the same issues and his compassion and empathy BLOWS my mind. Truly a wonderful human being. He was trained to be a classical opera singer but became a death/heavy metal singer instead and the Sound of Silence showcases his classical training... AMAZING! and a role model for my sons and daughter.

It’s so disappointing every time I see this as a reaction before going through their earlier music that they actually wrote. This song is beat to death as a reaction video and they literally have dozens of better songs

@weedlander I Absolutely love this song, and it reminds me of all the fans turning on Metallica for Fade to Black..hmm They were dead wrong!! All bands used to have a ballad or two. This songs Deep n Disturbed kills it!! Imo. ❤💯🔥🤘

That goes with a lot of these reactions. Certain songs get done just to fill the algorithms. Or the copyrights to not get strikes. For example Slayer, everyone does Raining Blood, Angel of Death, but those, while good songs, aren’t necessarily their best. I’ve been trying to get Live Undead as a reaction because that’s just an awesome ass song…

I’m pretty sure David Draiman trained to sing classical music and opera, then went metal, the he decided to share his talent with us, using this masterpiece. You’ll get the full picture after you see/hear the original. Great song! 😎
