Another Ozzy Osbourne banger. Randy Rhoades is an animal on the guitar. I cannot wait to do more of a deeper dive into their music. I also want to dive more into Black Sabbath.
Here is my reaction to hearing Ozzy Osbourne - Mr Crowley for the first time. I hope you enjoy it!

@jdbroders64
@jdbroders64 6 ай бұрын
Exactly. I was alive when he tragically died and he wanted to temporarily quit performing to further study music at the University level. He was going to take a break to enhance his knowledge of music theory, composition etc. He wasn't 'quitting" music. Far from it. With that said, for the all to brief period he was with us he was one of the greats in so many ways. Back in the day, I had a guitar instructor that had briefly known Randy and to paraphrase he said of Randy "He was a gem of a guy. A truly good guy." Everything I've ever read about Rhoads indicates that's true.

This song was inspired by a book about Aleister Crowley that Osbourne had read, and a deck of tarot cards found in the studio as recording of the album was commencing. Crowley was an English occultist and ceremonial magician who had founded the Thelemite religion in the early 20th century.

Because you're into heavier stuff, I'd HIGHLY suggest "Perry Mason" from Ozzy's catalogue. It's much heavier with a more modern metal sound and crunchy guitar riffs but it's really catchy at the same time. And definitely do Black Sabbath's "Black Sabbath". It's basically the foundation of heavy metal, the first track on their debut album that still sounds scary and evil.

The riding his white horse line is an allusion to the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
@GHOST5663
@GHOST5663 6 ай бұрын
True, but that is an incorrect translation in the KJV bible. When translated from the original Greek text to English no rider is mentioned. "And I looked and behold a horse white and the sitting on it having a bow and was given to him a crown and he went forth overcoming and that he might conquer" No rider there, what is described is a Centaur who were expert archers. Crown in Greek is Corona (virus) Bow in Greek is Toxon (Toxin) Horses are symbols for swiftness, quick delivery and this one is white representing medical profession.
@ericfisher1360
@ericfisher1360 6 ай бұрын
@@GHOST5663 I doubt it. Who the horsemen are depends on if you are a dispensationalist or a preterist. The 4 horsemen are judgements in any case. I don't see any hermenutical reason to belive that the white rider represents the medical profession. Morphology of a word is a bad method of hermeneutic partially because it only works in english.
@GHOST5663
@GHOST5663 6 ай бұрын
@@ericfisher1360 I had to look up three words in that reply. Thank you. You obviously have some knowledge in this. My understanding of Revelations is that it is prophesy, written in advance of an outcome already secured. These texts have been mistranslated by accident and purposefully and with ill intent to misdirect the faithful over hundreds of years. I believe that 2020 was the breaking of the first seal. The four horsemen are worldwide events, unveilings of the seals which need to be broken in order to usher in the reign of Apollyon. Genesis is the end, Revelations is a new beginning. I would appreciate your thoughts.

don't listen to the twats who are giving you a hard time. I like the younger generation having an interest in our generation's music. Gen X and older knew all of the previous generation's music because we didn't have playlists, we were forced to listen to the radio. And because the radio has always had too many commercials we would station hop around and listen to the oldies while we waited for the commercials to be over. The younger generations can selectively choose only the music you want to hear on your playlist, which unfortunately means you miss out on some really good music. I am Gen X, I grew up in Seattle and was a late teen early twenty something during the 90's, thus I saw Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Screaming Trees, Mud Honey... you get the picture.. live several times. At the time I didn't understand how lucky I was. I always wanted to see my parent's favorite artists (Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, etc) live but couldn't.

Randy Rhodes and Eddie Van Halen were rivals in LA at the time and the people who knew, knew that RR was the superior guitar player but EVH had a band named after him that was quickly becoming one of the most popular bands of the time and Randy was in Quiet Riot which was kind of a 80s garage hair band. So history judges as it does. But the proof is in the pudding.

Now you have to do Jake E Lee, the guitarist for Ozzy after Randy passed. Jake and Bob Daisley basically wrote the albums Bark at the Moon and Ultimate Sin. Randy's a legend but Jake is in my book too, all day long. Never heard a cross word about the guy in all the encounters with fans. He's cool and humble. He was kinda shocked people still cared, actually. He's not much for the limelight and was retired for several years and didn't mind it at all. He did discover later that He missed the creative process among musicians and started the band Red Dragon Cartel. Try the Ozzy music video for "Lightning Strikes" Jake also had great stage presence while making a fretboard his bitch.

Welcome to the dark side lol! I WASN'T an Ozzy fan until I was dragged to a concert. When I saw that crazy man up on the stage totally absorbed into the music, the crowd, and the atmosphere and I was SOLD. I never REALLY listened to the words of his music until after I saw him and realized that this man may be a social screw up but musically, he is genius. I was such a pop fan in the eighties then I found Pink Floyd. Once I entered that rabbit hole, my world changed. I consider myself a multi genre music lover, and although hip hop has never been a top contender, I will be drawn to something if it has a great message or it has some musical effect that blows me away. ALL music brings something to the table..even country...lol. keep digging..its a great journey and at 57 I am still on it!

You have to read the backstory/inspiration for this song: Aleister Crowley. Then you'll reallyy get goosebumps listening to this.

I've seen a few reactors do both the studio and live versions in the same video so they can see both sides. Would be an interesting thing to try out, I know I would love to see you react to both.

the song is incredible but gets better if you know the lore behind Crowley, he was basically a prolific cultist that tried to commune with demons, its a deep rabbit hole

The “White Horse” reference is to Jesus in the Bible in Revelation chapter 19 “it’s symbolic of course”. And yes Randy is a BEAST!!!! You should check out also “Suicide Solution” (about alcoholism that kills you slowly) and “Revelation (Mother Earth)” all from the same Blizzard of Ozz album. And THEN so many gems in the 2nd album w/ Randy “Diary of a Madman”!!!!

It's always better to do the live version in metal/rock. Way better.

Yes, do the live too, please 😌 🤘 I recommend Perry Mason, a song Ozzy did with Zakk Wylde as his guitarist. Zakk also has some awesome stuff of his own in bands and solo. 👍

At that time Eddie Van Halen was crowned Guitar Player of the Year for about 4 or 5 years. Randy Rhodes took that honor away from Eddie before he passed. R.I.P. Randy. 🤘

Mate, you must check out “Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey” - great documentary about metal music (how it evolved, what it means), and if you enjoy that, there’s a spinoff series called “Metal Evolution” by the same guy, and each episode focuses on a different sub genre, starting from the beginning. If you’re interested in the history of metal, you will absolutely love those.
