Your ability to articulate the music is a gift, regardless of whether or not you have a musical background. Your technical expertise (if you have any) isn't outweighed by your ability to convey your thoughts in such a thought provoking way.

@@mollyesanborn Yes, It really was in every way a marvelous album… I’m a bit partial to the actual sonics (particularly the MIX) as I grew up with my Dad being Andy Wallace (who *a lil embarrassed) Somehow managed to have MIXED about 79-80% of the albums you’ve so thoughtfully reviewed & offered great takes on. (His name is Andy Wallace if u want to google his discography) ~ But big respect 💯 Respect to “lEvil” Joe Barrissi who produced recorded & mixed this wonderful album… it’s truly incredible. ~ P.S. if you ever want to ask me anything that you think might help you add some color to your awesome channel about any of my Dad’s work on many records you’ve done & probably will end up doing more of that I can answer from myself or him if I don’t know - I’d be happy contribute to make your channel even better. ~ Have an awesome day =)

Since you're such a huge fan of the drum sound, you should check out the live performance of Pneuma that Danny Carey recorded to show off his Vic Firth drumsticks. It's a pro-shot video right up at the drum kit that really shows off his amazing talent.

Idk what it is about Fear Innoculum, but it brings me to tears every time I listen to this album (especially my favorite song "Descending"). It's like Tool tapped into some spiritual force when recording this album, no other band evokes these kinds of emotions in me. Tool is a very special band, others can try to imitate Tool, but Tool is truly a one of a kind band.

I know what you mean, there's something about their music that has a way of burying itself in your soul. They infuse so much emotion in it that it becomes something more than just music. Not sure how they do it but every album has been fantastic.

"7empest" and "Descending" are by far my favorite songs from this album, "7empest" actually won a Grammy (no surprise why, 15 minutes of the best musicians in the world jamming out together). This is the most meaningful Tool album for me, I can't explain why but it just hits different than any other Tool album for me. @@TheBrandonn Im in the minority as a tool fan, and actually like 4 of their albums more than fear inoculum personally, but that is not to say i dont like it. it is a great album and worth putting on when you have the time to go cover to cover. My reasoning is I feel its a lot more instrumental, less lyrics going on and also generally slower tracks all around than usual. definitely more calming and chill as a whole but i like stuff like ticks and leeches, aenima, lateralus etc which are a bit more up tempo, heavier, more lyrics besides buidups and bridges and musical intrludes. this is just my take. they dont have a bad album but doesnt mean i dont have preferences

Musically, this is a jam album, where the band creates a groove and then explores it to its conclusion. But lyrically/vocally, this is Tool's most spiritual and calming. The problems of the world is just fear. Exhale and center yourself... kinda thing. 7empest follows the tradition of one big aggressive track (totally sounds like 90's Tool), but as you said, even this tones down to acceptance and calm as the world rages around.

I'll be honest, I don't get this album, and usually I just bow down and accept I'm a dumb ass, but the fact you say "lyrically"... what lyrics? Seriously, Maynard barely whispers a couple of lines on this album. He was my favourite part of Tool back in the day ,so from that perspective fear inoculum is very disappointing. He has barely any contribution.

It's not polite to guess someone's age, but I wonder what you will think of Invincible when you are in your 40s (because I'd be shocked if you were that old). I don't think I would have gotten that song when I was your age, but that song was like Maynard looked into my soul and wrote about all of my regrets and fears. In my mind, it's a sequel song to Jambi - or maybe that's just the beauty of this great band; that you can find meaning that speaks to you - whether it was intended or not.

Damn, with your ability to convey your ideas and concepts about every album you do, you must be well read in literature, philosophy, and have an avid desire to learn not just about music but everything in general. In ways, you remind me of me when I was your age. Like I said before it's refreshing to hear a woman your age giving music from the 90's a listen without using lame terms like Gen this Gen that. You authentically give the music and lyrics a chance and make your own personal interpretation of the lyrics/music which is great to hear. Keep on doing this I know you will get more subscribers soon. With your adoration of Tool(which is well deserved Maynard and his band are amazingly creative)I think you'd like Brainiac especially their 2nd album "Bonsai Superstar" of their 3 Full albums and a few of their EP's and 7" singles. R.I.P Timmy Taylor. Brainiac was highly creative and there was almost no band like Brainiac before and there has never been a band that has ever come close to what Brainiac was.

Another great video! I wanna high-five you (virtually) for sharing my favorite tracks on this album; that is awesome! I also like Pneuma too as a favorite. Always fascinates me how Tool can "paint" a mental picture in my mind when I listen to them, and how on this album they really sound like a band; so balanced. As for the significance of the 7 in "Tempest," it's EVERYWHERE on the album. This theme of "sevens." "A tempest must be just that." (7 syllables). "Don't you dare point that at me." 7 syllables. "Weapon out and belly in..." - 7 syllables. "Drifting through this boundlessness." Again. And so on. Also - if you take out the "skits" of the album not counting the drum solo (Trip) - it's 7 tracks. Anyway; I really enjoyed this album. Aenima is still my favorite but among all the albums that's a very, very tight race. You plan on ranking their albums in a separate vid sometime?
@mollyesanborn
@mollyesanborn Жыл бұрын
Oh that's very interesting, I didn't pick up on the seven syllable usage on this album. Thanks for explaining. Aenima is still my favorite from Tool as well, but all five albums are so so good. Tool's sonic journey over their career is in line with my journey as a person over my 40+ years on the planet. From angry and aggressive to spiritual in finding an inner peace. There are some who don't like this and expect 60 year old musicians to maintain the same anger and energy they had in their 20s. But Tool matured and grew as most people do with age and experience in life. If you're still angry in the twilight years of your life, you probably didn't live it right.
@Agostoic
@Agostoic Жыл бұрын
Totally agreed, with maturity mostly come acceptance of yourself and the world that sorrounds us to a point of making peace within you and the experience of being alive, instead of just eagerly wanting to rage at anything or take the world by assault just because you think you can and got the energy to do so. At least at some point this happens to everyone, cannot hold into your grudges forever and expect not to have a negative impact in your vital experience. Anyhow, this is a fantastic album tied with Lateralus for me.
@Spudz76
@Spudz76 Жыл бұрын
While "Undertow" was their first "album", there was an earlier release "Opiate" but it was shorter than the minimum length to technically be an "album" so it was an "EP" (extended-play, somewhere closer to a maxi-single). The terminology is nitpicky, but ends up a bit misleading since it's not their first "release". They reference it in "Hooker..." lyrics as "92, the first EP". So you should definitely check that out, and hear the really young version of the guys, and the first bass player (Paul) as on "Undertow". Maybe to cap it all off also "Salival" which was more of a potpourri / covers / curiosities box-set thus isn't considered a true album, then you will have gotten all the "albums" *and* all the "releases". There are really really good things on there.

Yes, Danny Carey SHINES on this album! He is just brilliant. And I've actually heard that album from Black Country New Road but it was a while ago, I'll have to give it another listen :)

Tool's Fear inoculum was better than I thought it was. Just Pretty Solid! Now usually I would ask for your input on a band's favorite album. However with Tool, it's really difficult. Because they are all good. I may enjoy Lateralus one minute, then Undertoe the next. Or Aenima, etc. So I can't pick a favorite album from Tool.

If you want more long buildups and in general long songs with multiple phases, I would try some more records from Godspeed You! Black Emperor if you not already know them, saw that you mentioned their 2021 release in a video. F#A#∞ or Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven are the most popular albums for starters.

Great review! I don’t know why, but this one felt like Christmas morning. I love your take, because, as many times as I’ve already heard this album, you still notice some things that I didn’t. It’s just too bad we can’t watch you listen to the whole album. My favorite…Descending…with Invincible and Pneuma like right on it’s tail.

You really should check out the Danny Carey drum cam for Pneuma. It is amazing. And it will help with some of the sounds you hear.
