I don't buy them never showing this side of themselves to the father earlier. An act practiced in private will always become public because it is a learned behavior. It's what they mean by a "Freudian slip" - you just can't help yourself because it's your default response to a situation and you have to be doing the equivalent of a mental fist in the mouth to prevent yourself from doing it by accident. Eventually people get distracted and those Freudian slips just happen. Either the dad wasn't paying enough attention, or he wasn't paying any attention. Well I definitely think the op was right in exposing her Treatment from her mother and brother. I mean I can understand that the mother can't emotionally connect with a child but that's still no excuse to treat them so badly. plus what were they thinking? that everything they were doing was never going to have consequences? because consequences do come to people rather they like it or not. and I think her getting a divorce from her husband would definitely be good consequences. also I don't think the grandparents have any idea what it is like to be treated like a slave so they don't have a right to try and guilt trip her. I also personally hope that she signed a pre-num so she doesn't get anything out of the divorce. also the mother ruined her own life. she could continue to hate her daughter but at the end of the day it's her own actions that ruined her relationship with her husband permanently. plus I definitely think she's gonna struggle to find work as well. Idk we had a similar situation in our family. My great grandpa married a divorcee with two kids (big deal back then). She had my grandma and her a son. She always treated the son with disdain and venom. Found out after she had passed WHY. He was not my great grandfather’s son. It sounds like they had to do everyone's washing let's say 3 ish loads to put in take out put in a dryer the put them away it's not a lot if you just time the bits your doing but it can't be really intrusive having to get up everything half and an hour or so to do more than settle down again and if op was doing the essay in between I could imagine being more worried about getting belittled or yelled at for not doing the laundry they were probably losing the flow and focus they had on the essay I can imagine having a good sentence or paragraph to write but then whoops laundry is done I have to do that first then sitting back down and not remembering what you were going to write
