Ahh, to be a new Metallica listener.... where you can hear one song and play another and legitimately wonder "is this the same band?", and then play a third and fourth and wonder the same thing each time, except somehow it always manages to sound recognizably Metallica. The stylistic span from Mama Said to Dyer's Eve...

Mom is right on the money about the song. James wrote it for an ex girlfriend, he said it was a private composition until the band heard it and convinced him to put it on the record. It was definitely a new path for the band and a different way to express their art. To this day it is metallica's softest and most vulnerable song.

Metallica is the most recognized metal band on the planet. Tribal people in the Amazon rain forest have heard of Metallica. Its amazing that alot of people say they dont like heavy metal, then they hear Metallica and their mind is changed forever.

Tasha.....if this was Mama C's introduction to Metallica, this was a great choice! I would suggest following this up with... The Unforgiven, Fade To Black, And then ease her into the heavier stuff with, Orion. Of course followed by Master Of Puppets. This should give her a well rounded intro to them. Once she's primed.....then we've got to take her back to the Kill 'Em All stuff to hear how they started! Tell T I was with him on the live stream last night untill they unceremoniously pulled the plug! Bunch of dirty, rotten, censoring, +-_$##_-+_#$-((_*. Lol.....you get the point! As always, peace and love from Baltimore, MD. USA!!🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲

My freshman year of hs a fellow student died in a car accident in the first month, I only talked to him once or twice. I was so scared of starting Highscool but he was a football player and I was just idk me. But I made alot of friends bonding with people who really knew him and they said this was his favorite song.
@toddmcneil504 жыл бұрын
James Hetfield said he wrote the guitar licks as a decompression to play after concerts, to wind down. The lyrics were separate, also written by him as a balm when he got burned out from touring, reminding him that his family was foremost, and nothing else mattered. The other members of the band heard him play it and convinced him to allow the group to perform it. Thank God he said yes.

this was my favorite of all their albums, i do love them all (except the drum sound on saint anger) but this album was complete perfection. with the sound being such a departure from their older more aggressive "thrash" sound, some of us look at this song as kind of a warning like: " hey keep your minds open, this is different but we trust our fans to stick with us through this" i Love it just as much as i do anything off "kill 'em all, ride the lightning, master of puppets, ...and justice for all or anything that came after this. they will always be my favorite band "and nothing else matters" (sorry i had to make the bad pun)

As one of the few slow jams Metallica has done, I really loved this song. Felt so inward looking. I also loved the video being a inside the booth with Metallica making the song. It was a nice break of action on TBA. Well, that and The Unforgiven.

Lt. Cmdr. Data I’d go with 95% they really only missed on a few songs here and there and if they’d go through and fix the bass on justice and the snare sound on saint anger that percentage would probably rise.
