It's wrong to abandon your disabled child but it's equally wrong that parents aren't given the support they need in the wealthiest country in the world.
@EMILY4DAYS6 күн бұрын
I used to work in a state residential treatment facility, and there were less than 20 beds for adolescents. In the entire state. All children that were able to get one HAD to be wards of the state. There were only a couple of who didn't have supportive family that came as often as they were allowed to visit. It's rare that a parent would ever consider this if there were any other option. There are way more stories about our system failing people than it helps. This is a huge issue that isn't discussed in mainstream society so the only people that truly know the reality of it all is those who have been personally affected by it. You don't see the most disabled people in society because they're not allowed out in public, which includes public schools. Research "Ugly Laws" in the USA. There is so much history and evidence of how we've always treated people, historically until present day. I'm fortunate I've not had to be in the same situation, but people really need to understand they a) have a lack of information, and b) haven't been in the same shoes if they can't hold their judgement. How many of these comments say, "I'm not judging, but... I could NEVER...," ? All that tells people who thoroughly know the ropes of the system and many of its failures is they have never been exposed to this type of reality. Loving parents, committed parents don't go through hell for several years, only relinquishing custody because the other option is death. It's not lost on me that most people who make these types of judgements have no personal experience with the depths of hell and despair so many people experience. Relinquishing your custodial rights over your children is required to get this type of placement for your children all over the nation. The only thing this society values is someone's ability to labor and the profits they can acquire. There's not much humanity in this.

As someone autistic with minimal support, I can say that its good on you to stick in there. It's not easy and it tests who really are. You're all they have and terrible things happen to children when abandoned. Thank you for being there for them. Truly. The path of abandonment scars in places of the soul that transcend human language.

Heart breaking. In my case my oldest daughter had anxiety and panic attacks that lead her to hand out with the wrong crowd in HS. It was very devastating trying to get her help out there, all they wanted was our insurance money, all I wanted was a diagnose so we can help her. I got me a job helping parents with kids with disabilities, that way I learned and was trained how to work in certain situations. I was able to understand my daughter better and how to cope with my own feelings of hopelessness. I advocate for parents that are left in the cold for having children with disabilities, they became my friends and we can talk about anything without judgement, we support each other.

It's not for a lack of trying, and people find out how grim it is because they spend years exhausting all known possibilities. My daughter needs total care, and its hard just getting physical therapy for her because medicaid totally sucks. Getting nursing is a joke. Its not easy, parents need support and therapy as well.

"Leaky gut syndrome" is not a real diagnosis. It's bullshit made up by alternative medicine practitioners and highly contested by real GI doctors. That being said, this is absolutely heartbreaking. The stuff at the end about how Kayleigh has been abused (and later developed PTSD as a result) should never happen to anyone. I know someone who is a parent to an adult child with CHARGE syndrome (a very severe physical, medical, and often neurological genetic disorder) and though luckily she never ended up in that situation her daughter, while not intellectually disabled, has severe sensory, physical, mental health, and learning challenges she faces every day as a result of her condition.

I Have a child with my half-sister and we have a child much like the ones seen in the video here. We considered bringing him to india for a ceremonial euthanasia , as he never stops screaming and spitting all over himself. Our other children are fine, and we have a loving, monogamous relationship, these things just happen sometimes. The child in question is the eldest, and will be tough to explain to the younger siblings, but this child's existence is just too much for my wife to handle anymore. He is 17 and is twice my size, we can never have him calm and have spent too much money on special care.
@TheWholeEntireCake Жыл бұрын
Wait. Why are you having children with your half-sister though? Even if you were to fall in love with a sibling and it was “right” for you both (soulmate wise) genetic testing would have been wise. They can at least tell you the figures of likelihood for passing down significant genetic mutations. By now, all of the earth’s population is related to each other in some degree so “inbreeding” is more common than most people know but I think genetic mapping before having children could negate some of these mutations.
