As a shop owner and automotive technician. You can never leave anything alive in a running car and leave it unsupervised. Someone in my neighborhood lost his dog this week because he thought that if he left it running with the A/C on, it would be ok, but the vehicle's Air Conditioning is meant to be driving down the road to provide airflow to the A/C condenser. Yes, your vehicle has cooling fans that come on to help cool the condenser and the radiator. Once the condenser gets too hot, your vehicle is going to try to protect the engine so the car will start blowing hot air in the vehicle to pull heat from the engine. The moral of the story is never leave anything in the vehicle that has a heartbeat. This was murder.

I think it starts when people push down or ignore their feelings, or dissociate to cope with trauma, and can lead to general dissociation between actions and ”nothing feels real”. It was a dumb thing to do but I left him in the car while I ran in to grab them. During that time he climbed out of his car seat and hit the door lock button. I came out and couldn’t get him to unlock the door. He was climbing all over the car and laughing. And when I got his attention pantomiming for him to push the unlock button he just kept pushing it the wrong direction. I was a young mother and made a really bad decision leaving him even for a short time. I realize now that literally anything can happen. He could have been kidnapped. Anything. But you better believe that I IMMEDIATELY called 911 and the fire department came out. They were trying to use a slim Jim to open the door but it wouldn’t work. The fireman asked me if I wanted him to break a window and I was in a literal panic like “YES!! PLEASE! BREAK A WINDOW!” Because my baby boy was starting to look flushed to me. We got him out and he’s now a grown man of 26. But I still beat myself up over that. We sometimes make mistakes as parents but this woman turned a mistake into murder because of selfishness.

Did she get her degrees out of a cereal box bc the level of stupidity here doesn’t fit with someone who is apparently a professional. Though her daughter should never have been left alone in the car, I will accept they thought the air con was on when it was possibly the heater. How else do you explain their lack of urgency? What I can’t understand however, is them both driving off and leaving Christina completely alone. You'd be surprised how light their sentences usually are. A woman near me did the exact same thing. Baby in car while she was inside doing drugs. The buckle was so hot it burned her skin. She got like 15 years, then got it appealed to like 8 because they said the judge was too "personal" with her final statement because she said something insulting like "I have to do this for the baby girl you killed and burned." Now with parole she will realistically do like 3-5 years. If it wasn't for the camera Rita would have probably never been sentenced more than 10 years.

Ashley Pangalangan, 30, was charged with unlawful conduct of a minor, according to Walterboro Police Lt. Amye Stivender. Police responded Monday to the Walmart in the 2100 block of Bells Highway for a report of a baby crying in an unattended vehicle that was running with the windows up, an incident report states. The responding officer saw two small children in the back seat of a blue Suzuki with a busted out driver’s side rear seat window covered with plastic. One of the children, a 7-year-old girl, was in the car with her nine-month-old sister, the report states. The 7-year-old unlocked the door and told police their mother was inside the store shopping. The incident report states central dispatch confirmed the outside temperature was 91 degrees with a heat index of 97. “It was also noted that even though the air conditioner was on, the vehicle was blowing warm air,” the report states. The report states that after approximately 15 minutes, Pangalangan was spotted coming out of the store with merchandise and went to her vehicle and then came over to the officers and asked about her children. She told police she was only inside the store for approximately five minutes, however officers had been on the scene for approximately 15 minutes at the time, the report states."

Being that I have a non verbal, very brain damaged (from birth), type 1 diabetic, epileptic sister that my mom literally devoted care to every day of her life until our mom passed away in 2016….and then I took over as my sisters guardian and her 24/7 daily/nightly care (for 7 years, until I got so sick I ended up in the hospital myself; she is now in a group home) I feel I can comment on this as I KNOW what having a sibling like this entails. Its damn hard work. And I had my own family & my kids were still young at the time I became my sisters guardian. And I still care for her, just not on a daily level as I used to as she’s in her group home now and has nurses caring for her around the clock. I’m still very involved with her. With that being said, there is ZERO excuse I can find for this mother to not be held accountable for her daughter’s death. Accident or not. I don’t necessarily feel she did it on purpose, but with a child like that, they are like babies. You have to think about them ALWAYS, BEFORE you think about yourself. Period.
