My mom used to make this dish too, it was one of the ultimate comfort foods she made that I couldn't ever get enough of. I've craved this for years and missed this dish for years, kinda leaves a lump in my throat just thinking of it all, oh man! Moms been gone for years now and over the years I check every now and then for recipes online that look familiar to moms, yours comes the closest! Mom used a mixture of both cream of mushroom and cream of chicken too! Milk as well, I've known some of the basics but its been so long since I was a kid and got to watch her make this that I forgot. I'm going to give this a try soon to see if my son will like it just as much as I did growing up! Mmm I can taste that rice now....😌💖😊 Thank you sweetheart, and thank you to your mom as well! 💞💝

Made this casserole last night for the fam. I used rotisserie chicken breasts, that I de-boned and shredded into large pieces. There was maybe one serving left, and there were 5 of us for supper. Think they liked it! I know I did. So simple, and so delicious. Great recipe, I can see this being great for a church potluck or family style get together. Thanks for another great, easy recipe.

My dad use to make this. If your out of milk don't worry. Use little bit of water. We never added salt. My mom was very sensitive to salt. She would grt really bad headaches. If your trying to keep it more low sodium. Skip the sald. Mixed veggies would be delicious or vegal. Use what you got. Making this soon thanks for the reciepe.

@@ChefWannabesLife it was outstanding! I forgot the cheese though and I'm glad I did. It ended up being extremely light but full of flavor. I used boneless skinless chicken thighs because they were already thawed in the fridge. I added an extra 1/2 C of rice. 1/2 C each of onion and green bell pepper. 1 heaping C of sliced button mushrooms. Seasoned the chicken with garlic powder, poultry seasoning, salt and pepper. Baked for 55 minutes @ 350 and then put under the broiler for 5 minutes. Let rest for probably 20 minutes while trying to decide if I wanted to eat at 9pm. Lol. Ended up having 3rds. So good that I sent my mom pics of the casserole and a link to your upload. Thank you again for sharing it with us. If im fortunate enough to find some Chicken of The Woods mushrooms this summer, I'll make it again without chicken and only the Chicken of The Woods, bell and onion.

@@stevehairston9940 Hi Steve! Thanks for stopping by. I am so had with this, definitely low, probably 4 hrs. You don't want your chicken to dry out. Perhaps increase your liquid by about 1/2 cup as well.👩‍🍳
