I got a lot of interesting feedback on my Ethiopian and Eritrean dating advice videos. Here is my mother's take on Ethiopians and Eritreans dating outside of the culture.
- Do Americanized Ethiopians and Eritreans have a dating preference? Is that right / wrong?
- Do most parents care what ethnicity their kids date and marry?
- Am I trashing Habesha Men?
- Who does she want me to be with?
Please let me know what you think in the comments below.

I came to USA when I was 13 and pretty much grew up here and never dated anyone outside of my race. I only dated habesha guys and they all turned out to be Narcissistic , cheater , like to show off and and have very low self-steam(especially the short once lol). Now I don’t want to date habesh guys at all. Anyhow, if her preference is to date non habehas guys she has a right. Live your life honey and do you who cares. Life is too short to be caring about what other people think or their useless opinion . It’s your life and you do whatever makes you happy period. Much love 💚💛❤️

You’re so sweet and thank you! Gifts would be very much appreciated since we are such a hospitable community. It doesn’t have to be expensive. The gesture goes a long way. Regardless if you’re dating someone, when visiting someone’s home it’s proper etiquette to bring something, such as, Ethiopian bread, flowers, mini fruit cakes (like the ones they have at whole foods) or any Italian cakes are popular. Happy holidays!

As an African American man, I think its important that the African American man be educated. And, highly understand and preferably appreciate the Habesha, Ethiopian culture. Culture is very important, and should be valued, respected, and protected. Culture in the United States is in very short supply; therefore, we should appreciate and value other cultures and more importantly, if we get involved with someone from another culture i.e Ethiopian; us non Ethiopians should respect the culture, show up acting right, and doing our best!

Appreciation someone's culture is a huge sign of respect, whether it's Americans respecting Ethiopians and Eritreans or the reverse of them respecting American culture. Just because something is different, doesn't make it bad. We just all have to keep an open mind and listen more. Thanks for your comment!

I didn't take it personally tho. if you say so, I should tell you that I'm not even interested in Americanized habesha women like you at all, then why would I take it personally? You shouldn't talk about something that you don't know very well. I don't want to go any deeper about upbringing, your family, and everything:) how your parents immigrated, why they immigrated, and how much they respect and love their original place... these questions are really important to understand you. I know many habesha KZbinrs and they really love their origin, proudly teach others the culture instead of spreading false information. we love them, people from other cultures also love them too because they're being themselves. this video is literally clap-back!

Why do people keep saying she's Americanised does she sound like a suburbanite to you? Her cadence when she speaks the way she carry herself is African American, which is only like 13% USA. Its lot of different cultures America, yea talking about the kind of guys she has no experience with, that is very,,, weird ??? I hope no one takes offense to me saying she acts black American, you can the tell by body language how she associated herself, who she was friends with what kind of neighborhood and schools she attended, the only thing Ethiopia is the cross necklace... But is the orthodox cross really important to you when you are dating people with different beliefs?

I’m a creole black American man from southern Mississippi, and throughout our history we didn’t date outside of our culture, so because I live in a small town of creoles here I’m related to all the creole woman. I would have to go to New Orleans or another creole town in Louisiana. So I kind of understand wanting to date someone to pass down cultures and keep traditions, but also I believe in evolving and creating new history that will shape this country. You have a loving mother with a commonsense. I am an Ethiopian born and raised in Ethiopia and living in Canada now. My families were from Eritrean province in Ethiopia's womb. I always loved Ethiopia and the concept in it. And I always saw the world as one country with many diversity. Imagine I use to think like that when I was a kid. Like when I was a 10 years old. But my families were so abusive physically and emotionally. They attacked my opinions and morals which is hard to face it with a childhood age. They destroyed my morals and strong love for others. In my childhood time I use to have beautiful wisdoms, love and good thoughts. But they never cared for them. Instead they attacked them. They did their best to make me see that the outside world isn't better than being an Eritrean or a particular race. Even they tried hard to make me to see that Ethiopians are different races than Eritreans while I am living with them. My mother was so discriminative, arrogant, individualist and a hater of others. Including some of her families. I always became against of that oppression of mind and soul. Imagine this all happened when I was between 10 and 20years old and gave me hard times to fix it until today. They were so dictative. However with all that pressures and pains I use to have commonsense and love people even if it wasn't strong enough because of these situations. They attacked my emotions so much. Until today the scar is in my soul and mind. I am far from them physically and mentally now. They gave me lots of burdens and complexities of life. But I am not trying to make here an excuse to be in hatred. I love them. I respect them. But not in a big and special way. And I never accepted that Ethiopia and Eritrea aredifferent countries. Since my childhood time l loved Ethiopian history and civilization. I love my Amharic language. Infact that I give priority to Ethiopian and African languages than others. For example English, french, Spanish and Portuguese. I strongly believed in Ethiopianism or a world is one country under Ethiopianism while my parents were forcing me not to believe in that. But I was born and grew up in Ethiopia. I loved Ethiopianism so much. My mother wasn't like yours. In general my families were so discriminative and wrong conservatives. And I don't have a strong love or a big place for them. And I don't have relation with them. In the Bible Buez married Ruth who was not an Israelite woman. The most important is thing is that you have to love each other generously and be in the same religion depend on God's will in order to decrease the complexity of spiritual life. At the end there is only one human race. That is a human with many believes and diversity. Religion and personality matter without being pharisees and boastful. They made me to grow up in a foolish, intangible and complicated way of life until I aparted them. It has been now 12 years since I left that home. 12 years in immigration life. I am 35 years old now. I am so happy. Full of love. And I love all people. I am not much educated academically. but learned in life experience through hardships. I am good a listener, open minded and observant. And are rich in commonsense, wisdom, listening and understanding. But I am also sometimes a difficult person in a good and bad way. A little bit stubborn. But not so much. I like to offend people a little bit and make them upset sometimes. Attacking their opinions and being opposite. It really enjoys me doing such things sometimes. It is a fun. That is all you need to live with your families, friends, brothers and sisters. With people. Being simple is the last civilization. When people approach you and come to you don't try to be as a completely perfect person with no bad parts or other weaknesses. Just be who you are. For example I am a little bit ego. Without that I am a talkative person. I mean I talk long. Don't hide your bad or weak parts. People will love you, appreciate you and carry the bad things in you. You will be a good relative and a best friend to people. I think this is a wisdom. A wise character. In addition out of these issues I heard you saying on one of your videos that Ethiopia is being influenced by Western culture to some extent which is true. And I believe that we Ethiopians must not be much ridged to reject the whole western civilizations nor become completely open for it. We have wonderful and unique Ethiopian civilizations within an African context. So we have to take the good civilizations from the west and matching it with us. But we should not take any civilizations from the west pary because of they are good normally. There is a difference between the best good and the normal good. You know civilization started in the eastern world. Particularly in Ethiopia Africa. Democracy started in Ethiopia. Ethiopia is the only country that remained independent for thousands of years. We used it well until 1974 for thousands of years. Now again it has started with a new system with the recent change in Ethiopia based on the best of the past. The true federalism started in Ethiopia thousands years ago. Our past generations created it.

Across any ethnicity, people that are prejudice against others are ignorant period. Defining prejudice as preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience. If habesha people do not exhibit prejudice behavior and rhetoric and they want to be with their own people - that's fine! That point is clearly made in this video. But cloaking "preference" when there are undertones of stereotyping and racism, then yes, I have a problem with that, and I'll call it out as ignorance. If that doesn't apply to the 1st or 2nd generation you speak of, then carry on. How am I underlining women's opinions? By sharing others' experiences including my own? @@Sophia-angel Thank you for looking it up, it's actually at 4:27 in the QA Do Habesha Women Date "black" men? video. I start off that statement by saying it is not the majority, but yes, some habesha women have made racists comments about African American men, and I assume (justification if you will) is largely based on their upbringing and lack of awareness (they are ignorant). For example making negative remarks of African Americans' physical features, making assumptions about their job (read through my comments across the dating videos and you'll see it there too). Basically racists stereotype remarks of that group. There is a big difference in having a physical / cultural preference for one group rather than make racists remarks about another group. It is racists when stereotypical comments (that are deeply rooted in white supremacy rhetoric) are shared. I find it appalling. I am very embarrassed and sad when I hear and see that language. It is worse than white privilege from white people because it is coming from another person of color. All I know is that racism does exist in the habesha community(Ethiopians and Eritreans), BUT I definitely think times are changing and people are becoming more exposed and less ignorant. Did that address your comment?

@@Sophia-angel #1 - Did you read the entire reply. I specifically call out the difference between preference and racism. Taking habesha people out of the convo for a second, if a Latino women prefers Asian men because she is more attracted to their physical appearance and culture that is fine. It does not mean she is racists against her own or other ethnic people. #2 -If habesha people are making racists remarks then yes, they are drinking the white supremacy / white privilege Kool-Aid. I suggest you read the book, White Fragility by Robin Diangelo. You don't have to be white, unfortunately, even some African American people drink the white privilege Kool-Aid because of the systematic oppression and rhetoric of black people in America. # 3 - Technically you are right because white supremacy is believing white people should be the dominate race over society. I do think some habesha people hold themselves higher than other races including white people. But practicing the white supremacy agenda can still be executed by people who treat and view one racial group below others. In a way, racists habesha people against African Americans are doing white supremacists work for them by degrading the value of the "black" person, which is hurting habesha people residing in America. This is why Black Lives Matter goes beyond African Americans. Everyone should love their culture, love where they come, and be proud of that history. People have the right to have preferences and like and love whomever they want. My BIGGEST AND ONLY ISSUE is divisive and racists rhetoric period.

Frankly we are not authorized to even care about anyone's physical features or whatever , we have a country we have a people we don't even have to care. You can look Ethiopian but still not be an Ethiopian. Stop ✋ the shaming of people who wish to not be inclusive,

Where did I shame people who wish to be with folks from their own culture? Based on your thread of various comments, it seems you don't watch the videos, you just post your feedback. In the "They Don't Date Us" video I specifically explain and justify why habesha people would prefer to date within their own community.

@@LilaTalks I did watch the videos several times im more so responding back to the other comments. And you very briefly explained how we might be attracted ot our own like Chinese, etc. The thing is most people do date their own and its really no owns business people s preferences

I have been personally shamed and attacked for dating my Ethiopian husband. Certain people would tell me I should date this or that instead

@@LilaTalks I have had people attack and Villanize me for wanting to date an orthodox Christian ☦ In my experience when you tell people you only date in your culture, there is extreme backlash and anger and I wish you explained more why habesha women seem stuck up, why we like our own etc

@@Sophia-angel in the video "you guys don't date us" I think I explain why Ethiopian woman prefer their own, just like many other ethnicities prefer their own, and that's okay. Now, just like any culture, you have stuck up and non-stuck up women. I think non-Habesha people might take that personally without considering they are just stuck up with all men (not just non-Habesha men).

You live in America and Ethopia is in Africa so wouldn't that make you a African American 🤔
@LilaTalks

Technically yes that's why I select African Americans in US Census type of categorizations, but in practicality, (1) unfortunately, due to the US's dark history, there is a reason the generalization of the word "African" is used versus calling out the specific African country. In US history books, people talk about the Italian-American, Irish-Americans. They don't say European Americans, right? (2) Therefore, the use of African America not only categories a group of people, but also culture. African American culture is different that various cultures in Africa, just like Nigerian, South Africa, to Ethiopian culture is very different although we are all in Africa. Hopefully, this helped provide more perspective. Thanks for watching.
