I taught for 3 years and had to leave the profession due to extreme burnout. I was teaching in a low income school and was working 70+ hours a week. I bought every single thing that went into my classroom, and I spent every waking minute worrying about my kiddos, thinking of new ways I could provide for them, and making plans so that they not only learned at school, but felt safe. My classroom was a safe space for kids whose lives were tornados. That job was extremely fulfilling, because I was helping those kids every day. And I lasted 3 years. Because you can not “pour into people” (gross phrase) when you, yourself are empty. Just sayin

"when you start pouring into other people and helping them live a better life you will never be burned out" bs. i was a carer for my dad while he was dying and i got *hella* burned out. respite care *exists* because carers get burned out. the work life balance is important because we need time, as humans, to *not* be pouring our energy into others and to focus on our own needs.

@jennwhyte3837
@jennwhyte3837 2 жыл бұрын
This is SO TRUE. It is very gratifying helping others and caring for them,(especially when they appreciate it) however- if you spend ALL of your time taking care of others - you are eventually going to get burnt out and it could even make a very loving and caring person turn resentful because they are not taking time to care for themselves. You’re absolutely right when you say there needs to be a balance. 💗

As someone who worked in retail management for several years I can’t imagine EVER telling my team to not come to me with questions and concerns. Wow. The scariest part is that there are people who are feeling that burnout who need actual help who are just going to try to ‘tough it out’ and in the long run it will only damage their mental and possibly physical health.

Non biblical but also applicable...Asian carp introduced into an already at risk environment along the Mississippi River. Touted as a solution...ends up being an invasive species that causes more harm. Go for a nice boat ride on lakes streams and watersheds all along the river and you will experience fish literally jumping into your boat...also smacking you in the face, damaging your prop and all around being a huge problem. MLMs...same thing.

@@outofsyncaddiction I was thinking the same thing. I don’t think that’s in the bible. I haven’t read the entire bible, but if anyone knows which book, chapter or verse in the Bible refers to fish jumping into the fisherman’s boat, would you be kind enough to share it?
@mariellegomez8965
@mariellegomez8965 2 жыл бұрын
@@jamlisa4696 the closest i could find is in Luke 5:1-11. The fish aren’t *literally* jumping into the boat but they were swarming into the fishing nets and were so heavy they struggled to get the fish on the boat. I suppose one could imagine it would look like the fish are jumping on the boat, thinking about how fish act when you take them out of the water. So I supposed it’s one of those Mandela effect things where a lot of people believe that’s what’s described in the bible but it’s not really.

Social worker / therapist here. I was deeply disturbed after listening to this Monat leader. Short primer on burnout / compassion fatigue : Burnout is the state that someone can be in when they are in an environment where structural factors (unsupportive management, long hours, too high caseloads, etc.) prevent a person from working effectively/ethically/morally. The desire to do the job is gone because of these factors. Compassion Fatigue is when the desire to care and do the work is still present, but overwhelming exposure to stressful situations / trauma / etc. cause physical and psychological effects. What this Monat person doesn't realize is that the type of rhetoric she is spouting is CONTRIBUTING TO AM EMOTIONALLY TOXIC ENVIRONMENT, WHICH CAN CAUSE BURNOUT. Breathe, Emily, breathe. So much rage. Hannah, THANK YOU for the work you do and debunking these harmful words.

I actually use that exercise/rest day example with a lot of my clients (I’m a therapist) because I find that most people actually understand that you need physical rest days from the gym but often can’t seem to apply that same logic to their mental health. All of these calls give me the sense that these “leaders” inhaled deeply near a psychology or business textbook once and decided that was good enough.

After a couple of in home visits with friends of mine I realized I actually had better insurance through Geico (which we did not sell) and it was better coverage for a cheaper price. "Self-Employed entrepreneur" is the first thing I'd think of. As much as I hate MLM's, you do need to learn to do cold calls, manage social media, manage inventory. So there are skills that you can apply to a regular job. How good those skills are or needing to show examples, though, is another story. And that is what I've heard co-workers that were self-employed or contract workers say. Or if it's too embarrassing, and you did have little ones, you can say you were mainly focusing on family during that time, and are shifting gears towards your career. That's what I put in mine to explain why I was unemployed for a year.

Hahahaha, her working out/burnout analogy is so ridiculous. I coach a sport professionally and rest is VITAL, especially for athletes working at a high level. We practice 5 days a week, every week, except for two weeks off in the summer and two in the winter. ALL of us come back from those two weeks performing at a higher level because our bodies had the chance to recover from all of the damage they had accumulated. So yes, rest and taking time off can help you improve just as much as active practice. Also, loved your face as she was going on about burnout 😂

I just realized how this whole New Age / angel numbers / juju thing is in stark contrast with the advice they give. New Age beliefs mostly include meditation and conscious unconscious thought, yoga, breathing, etc. So they’re manipulating only the parts of those mindsets but deliberately avoids the element that would actually truly, genuinely help with burnout: yoga, meditation, deep breathing, etc. Instead, they preach the exact opposite, go harder. Just more proof that none of them genuinely believe in anything - they just pervert everything to fit their agenda. Seriously, ma’am? Your angel numbers should be 911; call your dad, you’re in a cult.

Coming from a person who used to work in a group home with foster care kids, now works as a behavioral therapist, and has a degree in psychology getting ready to pursue a masters in clinical psych and my LMFT, I can tell you with certainty that the research shows you are 100% correct and that you are also correct in needing to take a step back being the correct way to handle burn out. I was also surprised that woman admitted feeling burnt out - I imagine it must have been especially bad for her to admit so.... This is so dangerous and terrible and is the opposite of good or healthy work ethic. I burned out so badly in grad school and tried to work through it, only to collapse from exhaustion and had to go to the ER because I was so drained and dehydrated. And that was only ME putting that pressure on myself. I can't imagine having that cult-like echo chamber reinforcing that 24/7 hustle

Agree about the religion/angle numbers thing being predatory, reframing things like not earning bonuses or even money in general as a test from God, or lesson to be learned is so deliberate. Telling someone they're where they're meant to be according to the universe means they will look past every red flag and only see the "signs" to keep going.

"A New York baseball cap" is something we would never call our Yankee hats. That was so weird. ETA: the burnout vs. gym analogy is potentially the worst she could have used. As a financial analyst, that graph could mean a lot of things. I do agree those negative trends are bad, but I don’t see anything saying if it’s just revenue, net operating income, distributor growth. If it’s related to corporate operating income then those down ticks could be related to increases in the corporate expenses, decrease in revenue, increase in legal fees…I just wanna know exactly what story they are telling because it would better tell us what the corporate position is. Again, this is just another excellent example of how the distributors have no control over the actual business or product.

"I don't know what's going on here" My theory is that she never put any thought or analysis into the whole leadership thing. She just heard some quotes that sounded good to her, like the "no problems, only solutions" one and "collaboration" one and never actually thought about what they mean. She has no vision of her team and of how issues should be tackled, how the dynamics should be working. She is just repeating a patchwork of quotes and thoughts that she believes sound good and make sense to her when spoken separately.

I've lost track of how many half marathons. Five marathons. So far, in 2022 alone, I've ran three long distance races, and it's only March. I was feeling SO BURNED OUT, I took two full weeks off from running. And all that rest was amazing, because today, I had a really good, kick ass run that felt so wonderful! I spent hours skipping sleep and meals to make it to clients when others called out, i gave up my entire life to prioritize healthcare. It made it even worse when we lost 4 that were like my own grandparents within a few months (not pandemilovato related) of each other. It left me to a massive mental breakdown on top of the burnout. This woman literally does not know what burnout means. It occurred to me that at any moment these leaders' downlines could quit en masse without a moment's notice. Unlike a 9-5 where a guaranteed paycheck generally prevents quitting on the spot on a large scale, MLM's don't have that carrot to dangle, all they got is the stick. So the bossbabes gaslight the hell out of their downlines.

I am a Social Worker and work in a health job and teach about preventing Burn Out and you are right! Even extroverts need time for themselves while being burned out. Also Burn Out in the last step (there are commonly 12) is depression. And I mean real depression, not feeling slightly sad. Burn Out means you overworked yourself. On the way to Burn Out your body and mind give you warnings that mean SLOW DOWN! Take time for yourself, whatever that means. Do something nice for you and PLEASE do not push yourself further! And you're right jobs that are emotionally taxing (care taking, social work etc.) have a very high Burn Out danger - which is why part of my job is to help people read the warning signs and take care of themselves. One of the most important parts is setting boundaries to protect yourself and sticking to them. If you go over your boundaries again and again and again you will burn out. There is no way around it. Thank you so much for your videos and I'm sorry for the rant.
