Just got off a 30 hour shift at a water plant in Central Florida. We were taking flows 3x as normal. 2.5 MGD rated plant taking in 7.5 MGD for 12 hours. We were able to keep up at the plant but there was definitely flooding around town. No major damage. Thanks for these videos Levi.

Hello from the Savannah area. Levi is the G.O.A.T. of weather experts !! First I’ve heard of cooling Atlantic shelf water temps playing a role here. But this is why I sub this channel. I learn something new with each video.

@matt3932 Yeah, WTOC, WJCL, and WSAV only want to tell you what the NHC tells them to say. It's like they are afraid to educate people.

Richmond Hill Ga. Once again Dr. Cowen I do appreciate all that you do. I tell everyone about you. Especially this time of year. The amount or info and the lack of smoke blowing is what helps me make sound judgment calls when it comes to my families safety as well as my own. Again thank you.

Looks like the cooling shelf water may be related to the Ekman Transport effect / upwelling. The east coast of Florida normally gets summer upwellings when there is a significant southern current or current parallel to the coast. The storm's southern winds may be pulling up that cooler water out from under the Gulfstream. Very interesting... This is why I love your videos :) Lots of interesting details.

The near shore NC to FL shelf is an interesting environment. It's a crescent shaped loop current flowing counterclockwise, with water flowing south along the coast, then looping back out and north near Cape Canaveral, flowing north again along the Gulf Stream to Cape Hatteras where it cycles back to the south again. The water here is cooler and lower salinity than the Gulf Stream causing the two to not readily mix. In summer, the loop wanes, salinity rises, and it mixes better. Until heavy rain events and/or persistent wind events primarily from either the west north. Upwelling occurs easily due to the shelf's shallow 20-120 foot depth and the deep water just beyond. There isn't much water to be shoved away from shore to be replaced by deep, cold water. I've seen beach water temps drop as low as 62° in July after prolonged west winds. Typically a week or more of wind is needed though.

The size of this storm is impressive. We’re still getting rain and it’s windy here in Plant City, FL, Central Florida. Sun is partially out probably for a few minutes.

10 hours later, still raining in High Springs/GNV. We are going to have big problems when these tributaries from the NW flow into Gainesville area in the next 48 hours. It may still be raining even. Appreciate you, Levi 🌧

Why are they having such a hard time predicting the path of this hurricane?
@joshtaylor98844 ай бұрын
Basically there are two ridges of high pressure, one to the east and one to the west of the storm. The strength of the ridge to the west is a detail that the GFS and the Euro do not agree on, which is why you're seeing two very different potential tracks. Of course I'm no expert and Dr. Cowan does a much better job of explaining this than I can!
