First of all, nobody would care if the victim had been the CEO of a construction company or an accounting firm. People care about this killing because they want universal healthcare, so this situation is politically advantageous for them. Second of all, literally millions of people in America care every time a black criminal gets shot or killed by law enforcement or a white person, (although they don't care at all when it's any other race). Which again, is political capital for the race grifters and victim-seekers. So the narrative that people only care about this because the victim was a CEO isn't true. People care whenever something confirms their biases, and whenever it can be exploited for political gains. There's a reason why almost everyone celebrating this assassination are the same people who wanted Daniel Penny convicted of murder. That's not a coincidence.

To be fair, the "sell by" date law bit is wrong. That is not what they are doing. Now they have to put the date where it's not safe to eat, instead of the vague crap like "please enjoy by" and stuff like that. They needed to standardize stuff. Now they will just have a label saying, in effect "don't eat this after this date or you will die". They also mandate how long you can keep the stuff on the shelves before it's got to be thrown out.

Yup. There are some dates that are ridiculous. Salt had an expiration date. A mineral that survived millions of years underground had an expiration date. As long as salt stays in dry storage, it will NEVER expire. 6000 year old honey was found in Egyptian tombs that was still edible. I have some valuable tea from China that never expires, and it is encouraged to continue the aging of the tea from tea sommeliers. I'm looking forward to the standardized dates on consumables.

Your spot on about the sell buy date i worked for grocery stores and we literally have to toss or donate (certain items). I can’t tell you the quality that’s toss. we also mark down as much as we can right before the sell buy date which we might no longer do once based.

I hope they plan on marking the item with the manufacture date at least. As it stands, I'll be tracking best buy dates on items I buy regularly to get a rough idea. I prep and know you can use properly packed/stored items way out from the best buy date. I do test/use up stored food to cycle in newer food as time goes on. I actually just used up a large Nido can of whole powdered milk that had a best buy date of 11/2023. Got it on clearance. It was still good a full year out. Mainly used it to add to coffee, oatmeal, cream up soup, and actually made kefir with it (using grains/granules I got online). It went a long way for less than 6 bucks.

Bill, the 'sell by' date thing was a bill to replace "Sell By" and "Best By" with "Best if Used By" for quality and "Use By" for safety. It's not banning that kind of label in general, just banning confusing wording and forcing manufacturers to print clearer labels. Also, it's a California state law, not federal. The labels are not going away, they're being cleared up.
