People often tend to conflate their “wants” with “social validation”. Anand loves to read books and it makes him “happy” so he doesn’t mind spending a lot of money on his want. On the other hand, posting a picture of your beautifully arranged library on Instagram is social validation. Anand explains this nuanced distinction between these 2 in such a simple manner. I don’t know when he attained this wisdom but thanks for sharing it with us. If not 20, if we could form this discipline at least in our 30s, our happiness will compound too along with money :) I’m now seriously rethinking what truly makes me happy vs what I do for social validation. Thanks for the valuable insights :)

Very inspirational video. When someone needs an urgent cash, if they think about the past 10 years to understand the unnecessary spending they had made, they will realize the necessity of saving money for long term. If we assume a young couple who have a 2 year old kid, if they plan to buy a car for 4 lacs, they need to discuss about it for a day. They need to understand the future educational expense needed for their kid. If they do that they will not buy the car instead they will invest that money for the future of their kid. More over car comes with other things as well, you need to pay for fuel, maintenance and insurance. Car is a depreciating asset. As the time goes by it will lose its value. Whenever some one thinks of buying an expensive item, they should not do it immediately. They have to first question themselves whether they need it. Is there a better way to spend it etc.
