casey peppard some people process what happened to them differently. I hate assuming people wouldn’t be telling the truth. I can talk about my sexual assault when I was 11 normally but only after a while to I freak out. It’s been a long time since it happened so it doesn’t hurt me as much as the assault that happened 5 months ago. I have also been a victim a sexual assault and no two assaults are the same or leave the same scars. Someone once called me a liar for telling them what happened so as a rule of thumb I try to keep my mind open to any possible reactions to people’s own assault. I never assume it’s a lie, but watching these testimonies I think it’s very likely that the 15yr old assault probably did happen but it’s been long enough to calm down quicker after talking about it. Also based on the testimony I just think she’s projecting that onto Vic for some reason.

Take note - at 1:16 she's talking and acting relatively normal. In less than five seconds she was tearing up, describing her story about being raped, and in less than five seconds she's fine again. I'm a guy, and on the rare instances that I do tear up, or cry, I cannot cannot do so on demand, and stop on demand, in less than ten seconds. I know women are different. I have plenty of mentally unstable women in my life, from my mother, to my sisters, to my friends. I've seen most of them tear up or cry before. They, too, cannot make themselves tear up/ cry on demand. However, I have noticed that when people are lying, they could do this pretty easily. While I cannot say that she is being truthful in her rape story, I can say that her body language and the way she is speaking do lead me to believe she is being untruthful to some extent. Not necessarily about being raped, but about the trial in general. Then you have Ron's deposition, where you could blatantly tell he is lying. He's answering quickly, he's borderline smirking throughout the whole thing, he's passively unwilling to answer key details, that could be used against him, but openly willing to answer about key details when they could used *for* him. The judge will see that. The reason for a deposition is not to arm yourself with the means to win the case, while denying the means for your opposing party. The reason for a deposition is to get the entirety of the truth documented. If Ron knew any better, he would know that not answering truthfully, to the best of your ability, and being passively unwilling to answer key details in your case (in a judge's eyes) are just as bad as lying, if not worse than lying. I've been deposed twice, and in both cases I have come out victorious. I didn't lie. I was open. In one deposition, both my lawyer, and the opposing lawyer both knew each-other. It made things easier. Afterwards, we were able to sit down, have coffee and just talk for a while. It was off the record, and a lot of people called me stupid for it, but there was no harm. We talked about what injured me, how it injured me, and the lasting effects, etc. We talked about sports, politics, and it was overall very chill. If anything, I left that day feeling envious of lawyers, for having days like this, where it seemed their day was just very lax, and laid back. Probably one of the first days that I found myself wanting to be in the legal field.
