@@jamestartaglia7686 I have the pl200 Gen 2 they're incredible sounding speakers and if you want to make them even better sounding if you isolate the vibrations that are coming through the floor with the Townshend podiums it's like changing to way more expensive electronics I couldn't believe how much better it was when I did that they're not cheap though but boy that's the best upgrade I've ever done. don't like the new platinum generation 3 don't like the way they look with those cheap feet the platinum Gen 2 are much classier looking, if you can get the Gen 2 still get them I wouldn't trade mine for the Gen 3.

Very nice. Bass got so profoundly improved compared to the Gold 200 2. Had them in bubinga red. Most beautiful and well made speaker cabinet I've ever had. Sweet ribbon tweeter but no bass.

I went into my hifi dealer to test the 100’s - bloody outstanding speakers. I played Explosions In The Sky, Lisa Salvo, Sonic Youth etc., and you know what the staff member said? “You haven’t played one rubbish track yet.. most people will play Pink Floyd, DIRE STRAITS….Etc. etc” 😂 what is it with them, and Knopflers solo material that people want to test hifi with? Must drive staff absolutely spare😂

@@DJJEZ actually it's not the same the platinum one goes up to 100,000 clean this one only goes to 50,000 same in looks but not same in performance that's why the platinum costs so much more because the drivers are better as well as the cabinet construction.

@@SDmountainbiker I am more than happy with the sound of the speakers and have now got a turntable a nad 588 which i have upgraded with a better power supply and an ortofon 2m black cartridge the sound through the monitor audio speakers is sublime .

@@garyvause2628 Received my Gold 200's a couple days ago and really enjoy the way they sound! Was a little surprised how dominant the bass was right out of the gate and presumed they would open up after getting some hours on them. Have about 20 hours and the more I listen, the more I'm enjoying them. Based upon a few videos I've watched, seems like they will open up even more as they break in.

@@SDmountainbiker Ive had mine for a couple of years now and tend to play music at low volume settings because of thin walls .On rare occasions i have been able to crank the volume up and the speakers come out of their shell so it also means it depends what volume setting you use can alter the sound from very good at low volume to exceptional at higher settings .

if you think the new gold's are good you should hear the Platinum cuz they're even better cuz the gold are only about eighty to eighty-five per-cent of the Platinum which is still extremely good compared to the generation 4.I was totally floored how much better the generation 5 is to the generation 4, it's in a total different league now.

I'm sure you've taken numerous steps to treat the room acoustically, but honestly, have you thought about placing a floor rug/mat in the center? Only asking because many of the vids youve posted sound a bit bright. Not necessarily a bad thing, but i think a smoother treble response would display the loudsleakers in a fairer light

yes these sound as good as they seem I had the gold 300s in my home and I was absolutely floored how much better they were than the generation 4 and then I brought the platinum 200 Gen 2 in my house and they were even better than the gold Gen 5 so I bought the platinums, anybody that says that the platinums aren't world class is full of it, much more three-dimensional and natural than magico focal Wilson and many much more expensive speakers these are definitely world class and if they weren't made in China they would be three times as expensive if still made in England.

that's hard to answer, it's all personal preference, I find the monitor audio speakers much more three-dimensional sounding and natural than kef but that's just my ears, you'd have to listen to them both and see which one you like better.

I know between the Monitor Audio Gold 300 and Sonetto V if you like anything other than classical music the Monitor Audio Gold wipes the floor with the Sonetto.

I know its been 8 months, but generally speaking, the higher series (in this case the platinum series), even if older, will almost always be better. Yes, the new gold has some trickle down tech but everything else not mentioned will be of higher quality on the platinum contributing to a higher quality sound. The amount of difference is what you'd ultimately be looking for, which is directly related to price difference. What the premium is worth to a buyer is different for everyone, and companies know this, but they also don't want a lower product line to cannibalize a higher tier product. My question for you then, did you buy the Pl200??? 😜

no he's wrong about that one the gold 500g is going to sound better than the platinum one generation because the driver technology in the gold is from the platinum generation 2 so yes the gold 5G in my opinion will be better than the generation one platinum.
