Monkey's Fist Nesting Ball

Nested Monkey Fist balls can have some interesting usages. I have 2 suggestions for the initial core that might be useful. After making the core knot which I have come to call the Lariat or Diamond knot, instead of cutting off the loop at the top and melting it, tighten the knot by starting at one of the loose cord ends working your way to the other end. And when you arrive at the loop, collapse it, not all the way, but just until it blends into and becomes part of the surface of the knot. This makes the knot more round and even and less deformed by a melted spot. My 2nd suggestion would be, instead of making a single Diamond knot, make a double Diamond knot which only involves an additional number of passes. It effectively doubles the size of the core and produces a smoother rounder core. The double Diamond knot / doubled lariat knot still results in a single loop at the top and that loop should also be collapsed as the knot is tightened instead of being cut and melted. For some folks who have difficulty working with the laraiat / Diamond knot there two alternatives I suggest. They are the Celtic / Diamond stopper knot and the double Celtic Diamond knot. These knots are almost identical to your lariat knot but instead of both loose cords exiting together, the cords exit at opposite ends of the knot (axially). Otherwise the finished knot looks identical and the double version is twice the size. The Celtic / Stopper knots are easier for some people to tie and have many other uses in paracording. In the end, the loose ends of the core are cut off and melted, so the only difference in the knot used is the ease at which folks feel comfortable using. Cheers, Murray

Excellent advice. I do the same thing. I usually use the double Diamond, but as you said, the double Celtic Button knot would work just as well

Question, Can you leave about a foot on one side and do something like this with the rest of some cord without cutting between balls? and who bigg do you thing the ball would be if you used a 50' bundel?

You could certainly try to do that! Would be an interesting experiment! You may get to the size of a baseball with a 50' bundle! Let us know if you try any of those cool ideas!
