If you are really planning to use either of these for self defense, you had better practice quite a bit to prevent badly injuring yourself. Too much or too little follow-through can cause it to fly back with as much or even more force. If you don't know how to stay out or the rebound arc in close quarters, you might assist your assailant.

it's hard to believe that the monkey's fist was original designed to help weigh down the main mast line of a sailing ship. then Irish sailors decided to cut off the end and use it as a nasty Lil weapon when they went ashore... food for thought. great video

Incorrect. The Monkey's fist was designed to be the knot on the end of something called a "heaving line" used to toss a small line to a ship to be towed or tied up. it was then secured to a much heavier, to be hauled back to the originator. It was NEVER designed to be a weapon. However effective it may be as one. You'd be better off using 2 foot long piece of rope and hitting someone with the end of it.
@dr.dylansgame5583
@dr.dylansgame5583 4 жыл бұрын
@@j.m.mitterando471 how would that be more effective most people state one of the most easy martial arts weapons to learn and use are nunchaku or nun-chucks and its the same concept of using a monkey fist or flail you have a handle or rope with a weighted end and using simple back forth/side to side motion or up down over the shoulder using the centripetal force plus gravity plus the weight of the end so its undeniable that it would be the most effective melee weapon style to use considering flails could crush skulls and shatter bones and hell a man escaped prison by beating up 11 guards with makeshift nunchaku out of two bedposts and a sheet i think para-cord with a steel ball at the end would hurt a hell of alot more then some bed posts flung by a flimsy prison sheet

Hopefully you are taller than the attacker plus if you miss, hope that you can protect yourself in other ways. My opinion it's totally useless

Hopefully, you stay out of this short-shit's way. This is a Very effective self-defense tool, with a minimum of practice.

Glass marble is the best. With it you can have it on your keyring ring and board the plane. The last time I traveled on a plane in my carry-on I had 2 pairs of over the calf socks and in my pocket I had 2 rolls of quarters. Put one sock inside the other then put both rolls of quarters inside. You'd be able to knock out anyone that tries to attack you.

as kids we actually played with similarly home made flais, just fill the sock with wet sand and it's heavy enough for a meaningful impact Hardly a self defense tool though, you won't go - "just wait there mate, imma piss on the sand and cram it to the sock, it'll knock your lights out for sure"

Comment disable for the giant gorilla video. I’d like to make one out of an old cannon ball (like a kind of kettle bell) any ideas on amount of rope I need? I don’t think paracord will cut it!

Logan D. Williams, cannon ball? "Struck" me as funny. Or maybe you have a very large pocket. Or maybe you have a very large key-ring. Or one Hell of an ARM! Methinx it could be a wild mantle piece. "\_(ツ)_/"
