Monogram Pro Modeler 1/48 A-4F Skyhawk Build Part 1

In this exciting episode I put together the Hasegawa re-boxing of the 1/48 A-4 and I build it in flight.

The Skyhawk was always one of my favorites. The Blues were flying them the first time I saw them perform at NAS Millington, TN in 1978.

The first model I built after getting back into it was the 1/48 classic Monogram A-4! Just about 3 yrs ago! The Blues are my favorite!

Something you have to realize, and most people don't; interiors are not to scale. Planes, cars, usually doesn't matter, the outer shell is to scale and everything ELSE is then made to fit. The thickness of the plastic is way thicker than an actual floor or wall. Then all too often the interior is its own unit, so we just doubled the already wrong floor thickness at the very least. Usually seats and consoles are oversized, too. So you're sticking a "1/48" scale figure into what is basically a 1/50 or or even 1/55 scale interior space. You'll always be chopping up the figures...

I saw that I have the decals for that one but I decided to go with a different one. I had already painted the pilots helmet white before I saw the decal sheet came with markings for his dark colored helmet:(

Just a little info,the wing slats are not hydraulic they are gravity so always down on the ground.air pressure pushes them up.

I did mine in flight as well in Brazilian markings. You did a much better job than I did with the gear bay doors!

I did just finish the AMK F-14D. There are a few fit issues. Some are inherit with the kit and I managed to introduce a few myself. So yeah I'd say it is a difficult kit, honestly some of that it is the instructions, go slow careful and steady and all should be fine. I've only been back in the hobby for the last year and a half, so take that into account. When it builds out it builds out very nicely though. Thanks for the pointers on closing up the gear bays. I want to do more in flight models but find that a lot of time the kits I've been working with the gear bay doors just don't like to fit as they should heh. I've really enjoyed watching your builds, you've got some serious talent and a very nice eye for design. Thanks for sharing the content.

I’m finishing up the meng E/A-18G, and it’s pretty good. There’s some small fit issues, nothing major. I know you don’t usually mark up the cockpit but it’s pretty well detailed. I have shelved the AMK kit tow or three times because of issues. It has so much potential but I just get so frustrating. I think I’ll probably finish it after I finish the Growler, but enjoy them. Hopefully you can decipher the AMK instructions

1/48 Meng F/A-18 into Maverick’s aircraft?!?!?!? Maybe? Hopefully? That would be awesome! Good to know that this Revell kit is a Hasegawa re-box. I have the hobby boss kit and wanted a Hasegawa kit but all I can find is the M version and I wanted either the E or F. Can’t wait to see part two!!

Meng kit includes decals for Maverick’s new ride. They are very careful to not use the words “Top Gun”.
