Excellent review. My favorite part is that you included an assertive and unequivocal opinion. You saved me a lot of time, thank you so much!

I would replace the plastic feet with the SVS soundpath isolation feet. It will stop rattling and give you better sound quality

Now I understand the " invisible Bass" in the description. Lol.

The spec says 20 Hz at -10dB, which means that every frequency it's able to play before dropping off is two times as loud as 20 Hz is (that's probably in an anechoic chamber, which means it might be worse or better in roo,)... And it probably drops of pretty smooth so the -3dB point could be somewhere around 35 - 45 Hz. It might be your seated position that causes this or it might be that the subwoofer is only 200 $ in a tiny cabinet, probably better at playing bass rather than sub-bass frequencies. Try it in the "sweet spot" or where you have one of your SVS subs, you might actually be disappointed because of the room placement. (sub under the desk has never seemed to be good) Can't remember the last time I saw a studio have a subwoofer under their desk, and there's a reason why... Anyways would love to see the Earthquake sub, their tiny 8 and 10-inch subs are absolutely ridiculous... Just don't judge the sub yet before you've tried it in other locations.

@@ERRORFACE1 Yeah the magnet and surround on those things almost makes me laugh, they're ridiculously big, looks like car subs. only "downside" is that they're probably really bad at playing anything above 60 Hz...

The fact that the polarity was reversed is just incredible... and should speak volumes about the rest of the quality. I hope you test to move it around before you return it, to see if it gets any better. But you should still prob return it. I was also looking at this for the same reason; 20hz and 12", but was afraid it would be like buying AAA batteries from China, via eBay, claiming they contain like 80000Mah or some other BS fantasy numbers. When something seem just a tad bit too good, like super-effect-at-low-price, it usually is. Sux we all have to re-learn this from time to time. But sometimes we just have to buy it and try it to be sure. Thank you so much for this review. Saved me a headache. I'll go straight for the 8" Earthquake Couch Potato... ...or maybe i'll just go straight for the Rythmik FVX15 Servo Subwoofer and call it done, never having to buy another sub in my life.

I scored a cute little Martin Logan 10” 250 watt Dynamo sub for $50, a dual 12” push-pull M&K MX-145 for $100, and a 12” M&K VX1250 for $150. All used on Craigslist. Ridiculously low prices for the level of equipment. I have almost no interest in buying new anymore, given the deals I’ve found.

Sorry to see that monoprice let you down, but I knew it wouldn't sound better than the earthquake sub, anyway live and learn. Just coppd a Klipsch R115sw, I know you don't like klipsch but it was a deal I saw on Offerup. Man I was in for a rude awakening. The person I bought it from didn't have an power inverter, I had one but couldn't find it. So I bought it anyway got it home and the sub wouldn't stay powered on. Automatically I knew it was the amplifier. So I called Klipsch and they said the replacement won't be available till May next year (NOT WAITING THAT LONG). So I'm in NYC, called around and had the amp replaced for 385, So I'm into this sub for x amount. I'm definitely satisfied with this Klipsch sub. That's my story. Again sorry for the monoprice failing you. Trust the earthquake is gonna be real, can't wait to see the video. Keep up the good work

Should have played with placement a bit more, cabling also makes an impact. I have the standard version of this sub, and for the 99$ it cost I cant fault the thing. Keep in mind, these are super basic designs with MUCH room for mods/upgrades. I plan on getting a 300w rms amp board for mine.

20HZ at -10Db is a joke. The effective range (at -3Db) is around 35 Hz (this is not a real subwoofer).
