When some sound frequencies is boosted the boosted frequencies is going to be heard more and that is not good for frequencies that is not boosted coz you will not hear the non boosted frequencies you will only hear the boosted frequencies so this THX Equalizer is very bad for sound reproduction

You would have to go up to the SVS 4000 to get an equivalent sub (output spec wise) to the Monolith 13 THX sub (it may be marketed as a 13" driver, but it's actually a 15"). Yes, it may have an EQ app, but if you already have decent calibration software you don't need to spend the extra money.

Got this for my bedroom during its holiday sale for $450. It's awesome. Have the miniDSP HD hooked up to it for better optimizing the bass. I had to get the SVS isolation feet to decouple from the floor because it was just shaking and vibrating too much shit around the room on the 2nd floor..which felt and sounded nice, but I knew I wasn't getting accurate bass. It's an awesome sub that can really stand with the 12" subs.

Great..I own a pair of PB-1000 in a closed 2500 cu ft room. It's great for both movies and most music. I don't feel there's any urge to put more money on the sub anymore. Living with it very contented for 3 years.

Monoprice has dB advantage at 20hz but 31hz+ the svs sb4000 beats it However considering the sb4000 is 4.5 X the price not really fair

Hi Joe, Thank you for the great review. I have a room that is 20 x 17 feet but I use only half of it to watch tv and movies. Would you recommend one 12" or 2 x10" for this room?
@joentell
@joentell 2 жыл бұрын
I would go 2x10" because you have a better chance of reducing nulls in your room where bass is being cancelled out by reflections off of walls. You will also have more output with 2 vs one 12".

I’m having buyers remorse! I bought a Klipsch SPL 150 15” subwoofer for $740 back in November. Now I find out this little guy can have the same amount of output if not more for less? And it’ll dip deep if not more then Klipsch 15!? What!?

Compare it to the PB-1000!!! the same price, both are tuned ridiculously low (PB-1000 is tuned to 22 Hz) (not sure about the Monolith, probably around 20 - 24 Hz), both have a 10" driver and almost the same size cabinet. Both can dig down to 16 Hz, would love a comparison between these two!

Maybe look up some CEA 2010 data on both and see which specs are most important to you. The app is handy on the SVS, but less important with an AVR since the EQ and levels can be set there.

What good is a subwoofer in an apartment? I remember my apartment days. I got complaints for loud music w/out a sub, for making noise chipping ice off the bottom of my balcony door, and cleaning something on my balcony. The water dripped down and someone complained. 😑 A rumbling 500W sub? I'd been thrown out.

The SB would be a significant step back for HT since it's a sealed sub. The PB would be a better choice but the monolith still has an edge over the pb in terms of deep bass. If you can up your budget another $116 though the HSU Research VTF2 MK5 will outperform both and is arguably the best HT sub under $850 new. Not unless you build your own sub.

Hello Joe, you should remove the driver to get a look at the motor. May be worth showing the viewers as well. It is insane for a 10" sub. You would probably have to spend $200 alone for a driver of that caliber if you were looking to DIY it. Now consider the cost of a 500 watt class-D plate amp. It makes the Monolith 10" THX Select a crazy good bargain.

@joentell

I think these give you more value with regards to price vs performance when compared to SVS. Where SVS has an advantage is their upgrade policy, their customer service, their Customer Bill of Rights, and gloss finishes. My goal is to give you the information to make the best decision for yourself. I've only reviewed the SB2000 and SB3000. Love them both also.

Ported vs sealed has a lot to do with it. Also the size. This Monolith 10 enclosure is significantly larger than the SVS SB3000 with a 13" sub in a sealed enclosure. You can't cheat physics. I'm sure the ported SVS subs would be good competition for this line.

You could get the BK Electronics Monolith Plus which is an internet direct company out of the UK. That sub would be about on par performance wise with SVS PB2000 / PB2000 Pro or Monoprice Monolith 12. They hand build their subs and can offer custom finishes.

hey Joe, I usually set up subwoofer one time with the calibration and rarely touched it unless it sounded weird and suspect family member touched it. Question: what do you think what quality of a sub that made us feel to the bone like in the dance club and movie? low frequencies like this 16hz sub with higher dB? ported vs sealed? or by sheer physics: size of the subwoofer? say in a 1000sf room.

Would love to see you test the BIC America F-12, H-100II and PL-200II. They seem to consistently get favorable reviews online but most of the reviews are subjective without graphs. They are all rated down to at least 25hz and everyone seem to subjectively think they do go lower than other subs in their price range so would love to see you confirm that. If so, they would be a good compromise between cost and performance.

But if they are anything like the m12 in a small to midsized room they are more than enough. My room is a larger room if that helps.
