I haven’t used the truck a lot but the shocks seem to help. Gas is pretty crazy I try my best to just ignore the prices. Hard to do but I’ve got to have it. The non ethanol stuff is what gets me heck it hurts to cut the grass lol. Take care, Ben.

I wonder what the distance will be once the entire trailer is loaded with wood? Will it be enough at that point? I guess time will tell...

Jackie I’m thinking it will be better with a loaded trailer because it will have weight in the back. I don’t have much issue towing the trailer but I always take my time. My issue is mainly when I have the truck loaded heavy. Take care, Ben.

Just a note- The shock mounts aren't made to carry much of a load. If you decide you need a bit more, the firestone airbag kits work well, they go between the axle and frame. I ran the airlines on mine out and replaced my liscense plate bolts with the bulkhead schrader valves to air up/down the bags.

Hi Ben, Nice little upgrade, how does it drive empty? I run air bags in the back of my work truck. Don’t even notice 10000 pounds on the old diesel Ram!

The spring shocks are great to add a bit of capacity for trucks that have something in the box all the time. Like a canopy or tools box or fuel tank and such. For your needs here of varied loads, and heavier stuff, the best option is airbags. You adjust the air pressure to the load. When running empty, 5 psi air. When fully loaded 40-50 psi. A or kit for your truck without the expensive compressor would be about 300$. Plumb them to a scheaeder valve by the license plate. Cheaper than those shocks, and a lot more load capacity. Carry a cordless portable compressor (tire inflator) and tape measure to air up the bags as needed. This is the route I went and am extremely happy.

I always bought my 4x4 Ford trucks with a heavy duty suspension. I Ave hauled a 8’ bed full of oak rounds, stacked as high or higher than the top of the cab. I have also pulled a 16’ trailer with a 25,00$ tractor sitting a dual axel trailer. It did have electric breaks but that was all. My nose was up a bit but I could still see the road.

Also realize that your firewood on the trailer is wetter now and thus a bit heavier, due to the rain. So the new shocks may give you even more than 1.5 inches more height.

We did not get any rain from May to late in July. My peaches did not grow much bigger than grapes and I lost an apple tree.

@@OGAOutdoors maybe we will have a good crop, next year. I am going to put a fertilizer ring around them this fall and mulch them real well with 5-10-15 and some Milo. We have had a lot of rain the past few weeks. I let the grass grow for a couple of weeks and had a mess to cut the other day.

Ever since I went back to a half-ton for fuel economy, this has been on my mind. I was thinking about airbags, but I may try some Sumo-springs I bought for another truck first. The factory shocks on this GMC are too soft. I have a set of equalizers, but they won’t mount up to my dump trailer - just my 24’ dovetail. Did you consider airbags before buying the Monroe shocks?

Mark I never really considered air bags to be truthful. I’m not very mechanical good at working on things. I had all types of suggestions I was leaning towards upgrading the springs but didn’t won’t to put the effort into it or pay someone to do it. A couple people suggested the Monroe shocks so I’ll see how they do going down the road and if the 1.5” gain helps. Take care, Ben.
