i was so caught up in the euphoric idea that nebbercracker got a shuttle back from the hospital in an ambulance that for a moment i lived in a world where auto theft didn't exist

I was always under the impression that he drove himself home in the ambulance cause he couldn’t wait to get back to the house fast enough

This movie was very special to me as a kid because I lived in a house like Nebercracker's. It was a beautiful Victorian styled home owned by an elderly Spanish speaking woman. Long story short she was a nightmare to live with. Her own children didn't visit her much and I say this because she would get a home attendant but each time it would be a different lady. Whenever we had family over she would have an issue with them and it would lead to a shouting match. We only stayed for around a year and was able to find a better place to live. That woman became the reason why now as an adult I study Housing law (not actually planning on being a lawyer but knowing my rights as a tenant). Nobody should ever have to live in a place where they don't feel safe especially now with how bad the cost of living has become.

First time I watched monster house was when it aired on TV, and my grandmother got upset at the uvula joke which is hilarious bc I didn't get that joke for YEARS

i know! i didn't understand it until i rewatched it and went "oh WAIT a second". people talk about rewatching kids movies as an adult and noticing the jokes that flew over their heads as a kid a lot of the time, and this is definitely one of them haha

Wait I still don't get it? Can you explain it

9:52 i think the writers did that to imply that nebbercracker escaped from the hospital by stealing an ambulance. why i think this is the case is because he knows how important it is for him to be there on halloween to calm down constance. i think he was so desperate to get back before anyone actually got hurt that he escaped the hospital and stole a ambulance to get there.
@thealrightoddity4 ай бұрын
huh! i hadn't even considered that to be honest. that makes more sense than the poor ambulance driver just sitting there and watching the monster house literally grow legs haha

You remember that feeling as a kid where you wanted to do something but werent allowed to because you were too young? Like hanging out with an older teenage cousin and their friends but they didnt want a kid to tag along or going to see an R rated movie? Monster House kinda feels like time capsule for that feeling with me except in the film the kids do encounter something dark and edgy and they're the ones who have to get involved with it. Anyways great video essay!

Fun fact: The director of monster house was originally going to direct the FNAF movie. That was when it was associated with universal. I thought that was interesting cause you mentioned fnaf in this video

You are speaking my language I love stories so much, and I believe they do have meaning to them. Everyone has a story and a choice on what path they take Without stories, life would be pretty boring didn’t you say?

When you say this movie was supposed to be PG-13, I believe it, and I think there's some long-lost cut of it somewhere. I remember once, as a kid, watching the movie on a channel that wasn't Cartoon Network, which at the time I thought was odd but ignored. The kid in the stripped shirt asked the boyfriend if he was "drunk?." And I do remember the babysitter calling it beer at some point. During the 3rd act fight between all the kids, the fat one said, "I even stole drugs for you!" to the one with the stripped shirt. There might have been more changes but those are all the ones I remember.

Yo! I saw a new video from you and clicked immediately. Day made! I'll comment again after I've actually watched it - gotta drive that algorithm, right?

Absolutely charming commentary as always! Honestly - and I'm not discounting your analysis of the themes at ALL - it seems like they took the premise of What If House Ate People, and then the story itself, the themes et al. were an afterthought to make it feature-length.

thank you!! and yeah, i can kinda see that-- sometime themes in storytelling aren't always obvious to even the writer!

haha yeahhh, i get that now! i didn't put two and two together when i was watching the film or writing the script-- a dumb move on my end, if i gave it any more thought i probably would've realized he stole it!
