I am not the most experienced hunter...but I am not a new one either. I notice things on my hunts, little things really. Ruins in the waters of great swamps, destroyed and untouched by life as if monsters themselves avoid such things. And the hatred that most elder dragons have towards hunters, the fury in their faces when they lay eyes on us and our armor. They know our weapons, they know what we came for. Other than kirin it would seem that all elder dragons hate humans. Unprovoked, I've seen some come at me. Or wreck entire cities. They remember, and they are still angry.

What the ancients of the First Age did was genocide, plain and simple. Barbarism, cruelty, and greed, which runs deeper than the black depths of the ocean. It may be a game, but it still gives me a lot to think about.

Yet the ones of the New World appear to have calmed to an extent. Perhaps still incredibly dangerous and aggressive, but many I can approach without immediately having to run for my life. Particularly Vaal, perhaps who is just inexperienced with hunters?

SachiTFG In actuality, they’ve never stated what’s canon and what’s not. So really, it’s all up to your headcanon. Mine for example, just excludes some of the more ludicrous monsters from the Frontier series, the dhisufiroa, the zenith species, the ultimate fatalises, etc..

While weapons like the greatsword, hammer and bow seem natural, intuitive tools designed by old hunters, the switch-axe, charge blade and bow guns all feel sci-fi. Like they were designed by the wyverians. Any chance on some weapon lore?

there is also the newest weapon made by the hunter guild. the insect glaive. the first weapon of it's kind, made to show how far we have gotten and that we are different from ancient civilization. the kinsect is not a slave but a partner in battle.

I don't actually believe in the Elder Dragon war. Instead I believe that Fatalis was created by nature to solve the problem which intelligent creatures posed, just like Nergigante was created to kill elder dragons which have grown too powerful. Nature however, is chaotic and unpredictable force and both of these solutions created also new problems, which intelligent creatures have to solve in order to survive. We just have to be careful to know our limits, if we want to avoid the fate of the ancient civilisations. And if the stories are true, the fatal mistake most players seem to do is to use Fatalis armor set. Stories tell that while the armor gives you incredible powers, it takes away first your sanity, and then either your life or your humanity, turning you into a new Fatalis. When claws and fire are not enough to destroy us, false promises to exploit our greed work perfectly.

When I think about the end of the Ancient Civilization, I always recall this poem: "When the world is full of wyverns The legend is revived Meat is eaten, Bone is crunched. Strawfoot The Ancient Civilisation was both the worst and best of the civilisations in the world of Monster Hunter. It was the best when it came to how powerful it was, but the worst due to the atrocities it committed. I remember reading somewhere that some of the Monsters in Frontier or Online may be bio-weapons, explaining some of the more bizarre abilities some of those Monsters show. My theory is that the Hunters themselves are also bio-weapons, infused with the DNA of Deviljho, giving them their numerous superhuman abilities and how voracious their appetites are, eating meals that would serve a full family of regular people. I feel like some of the Hunters back in the First Age might not have even participated in the war, as numerous Hunters today (me included) feel strongly for the creatures we share this world with and would have objected to many of the atrocities against Dragon-kind. I’m glad that they won this war and defeated the Ancient Civilisation, as I don’t think I could be a part of the world the Ancient Civilisation envisioned.

We don't know for sure. Many innocent beings who had nothing to do with the crimes, and may even have objected, may have been killed. War is rarely black and white. True the Wyvarians started it, but who knows how many innocent bystanders, if any, died for their leader's crimes. Wish Capcom would give us something.

The story of the downfall of MH's ancient civilization reminds me a bit of the story of the fall of Allag, who thought enslaving gods to generate power was a great idea. of course there is actually more to that story, a lot more but it still reminds me.

Now that I think about it... Duremudira was theorized to be an EDW, It looked like an ED, it has the power of an ED but it isn't one of them. While Extreme Eater Jho from Frontier was confirmed to be an artificially modified monster.

God Monster Hunter lore is so great once you get into it. You wanna know what I really think would be an great candidate or at least related towards the EDW weapons of the old civilization. “Atoraru Ka”. It just seems too smart for being a normal creature. In nature insects will sometimes collect dead creatures to make themselves bigger so it hoarding stuff makes somewhat sense but that fact that it has the ability to fully control a giant makeshift mech made out of fortresses it has *raided* it makes me think that Ka is possibly a little bit more important in the story then just a simple pest the Guild wants you to deal with

I would LOVE to see a game that takes place during the war. Just be glad the Equal Dragon Weapon was never used. It may have turned the tide, or the Elder Dragons might have turned it to their side somehow. And rather than living in an uneasy peace asside from Fatalis, we'd probably just be extinct.

The problem with a game taken place in the war is that the whole dragon war isn't part of the canon and neither is the EDW. It was something created before MH1 was a thing and a scrapped concept. It wouldn't work in the current lore.

@OtakuUnitedStudio He pulled it from the unofficial wiki. Also none of this is mentioned in any MH game. The Ancient Civilization is real but what happened to them is a mystery. Anything to do with a Elder Dragon war or the EDW don't exist. Back in MH1 the term Elder Dragon didn't even exist not until gen 2.

Unless Alatreon is actually the equal dragon weapon. All the elements, all information destroyed, and just speaking its name makes people panic. I bet both it and Safi have something to do with the ancient civilisation. Seeker even directly compares humanity to Safi'jiiva after you slay it.

I consider myself more a Rider, but i dont fear to become a Hunter since certain situations can not be solved in peace and my monsties understand it. It is part of nature in our shared world. But as far as i understand, "Monsters and we were one once" we were friends, allies, partners and i think that was the age of the Riders, Humanoids who teamed up with monsters to bring peace and protection since of course not all monsters would be nice, just like humanoids are not always nice. But then, the greed grew and the Hunting started, the monsters were betrayed, killed and skinned off thier hide, claws and scales, used to create weapons and a weapon. Thats when the war began. The Riders tried to bring peace and talk both sides out of it, but they failed and might be slayed by both sides as traitors and spys. The war must be terrible, even elderdragons fought in it! I still fear the power of a Teostra that can make the air around you explode in seconds, i dont dare to imagine what a group of them could do yet a whole army.... Still, it seems that the Wyverians had many tricks up thier sleeves and could manage the elderdragons and the monsters....until Fatalis came and ended the war with wrath and power nobody could resist. Castle Schrade and the whole Schrade Kingdom was annihilated, only ruins are left from the past glory of it. Still, even when Fatalis ended the war with that in the favor of monsters, something was off about it and all monsters and even elderdragons fear it and refuse to come close to Castle Schrade it had claimed as its den for many years. (Later hunters came and defeated him, fatalis then retreated to an volcanic isle only to come back as the Crimson King and then after being defeated again, came to the Tower and discarded its fire to embrace the Lightning itself, so becoming a 'god', just to return to Castle Schrade to reclaim the area for its own during an eclipse. But again, Hunters stopped it) The Riders almost vanished completly from the world, only small hidden villages remain but the Hunters started to kill monsters left and right to protect themself after the loss and the Monsters lost the ability to communicate to Humanoids (atleast i think the elderdragons could be able to acually talk). What started as a peaceful age, ended in a war that is fought by generations and will be ought by generations in the future. But with a certain balance in nature we need.

The war was so terrible that entire species of wyvern and elder Dragon were wiped out by the ancient civilization. It seems fatalis played some major role in bringing the AC down however what exactly it did is unknown.

I believe the creation of the Equal Dragon weapon was the last straw for the Elder Dragons of old. The hatred Fatalis have for humanity was born at this time, and it was the six horned Fatalis splitting the continent that ended the war and shattered the Empire beyond repair.

As a Rider(I only played Monster Hunter Stories 2) I can see that those who rode on the backs of the monsters from the first age and survived learned a lesson and try to become friendlier to the beasts of our world. Perhaps the kinship stone is some form of old relic from this time.

Considering the talk of Fatalis in the Old World, where the beast welded the bodies of hunters on to its body in sheer spite for the Equal Dragon Weapon, I definitely believe monsters have some sense of higher thought. Monsters of the Rath species are smart enough to take eggs from jaggi to raise as soldiers to protect their eggs shows this as well!

There is one elder dragon that I have faced in my travels that I became extremely lucky that I escaped at all. The one creature that could be described as evil. The wyvern of destiny. The wyvern of destruction. He is called... Fatalis.

I've seen what appear to be ancient ruins and the remains of artificial structures, but were so time-worn that you would have thought they were just rock formations if you didn't look closely or notice the oddly familiar settings.

This screams true canon story for so many reasons, especially because of Duremudira. As pointed once in a distant youtube comment section: protruding second jaws which serve no purpose, grotesque muscle mass and disproportionate limbs unexplainably maintained in perfect condition even though he was closed up in the tower without any sustenance for an untold ammount of time. Which of course, is more impractical than specialized to a task by evolution. The thing screams "weapon" to all of the winds.

The equal dragon weapon activates and takes flight and lands before fatalis and his army and when they stare at it they feel....pure anger and fear for before them was what used to be their comrades now spliced together like a kid mixing legos together. As the weapon wipes out each dragon one by one til fatalis is the last one fatalis gives the weapon a plea to get it to snap out of what ever is controlling it as the weapon has a twinkle in its eye and snaps out of it ...but if that was the case the dragons would have one the war and humans would have been wiped out...rather the weapon killed fatalis[fatalis doesnt really die as it does regenerate even when its "dead"]and after fatalis the weapon turned its bloodlust against the humans and woth the humans wasting any essential resource on the weapons creating the equal dragon weapon...well you know whqt happens next

The dragon war isn't even canon. It's an idea that was scrapped along with the EDW before MH1 existed. It's no longer a thing and hasn't been....since forever.

A people of contradiction we are, capable of great good and great evil, but single of mind and thought we are not. What form did evil take that day? What whispers did it tell? Imagine if mhw had every type of wyvern trying to come to the new world and the hunters had to fend them off and I don't mean like 10 or 20 dragons I mean at least 100 of every species and subspecies of dragons every to be made by the monster Hunter franchise and more, a new land thats so huge it can withstand a war of that caliber no time limit no death limit just repel every last one of them

The downfall of a civilisation is always greed. Greed and laziness. There comes a point were you are unable to gain power on your own, and you must force the backs of others to gain more. As more come under your command, it soon comes to bear that the mightfull eye you have had on your servants has turned to county the stacks of zenny. Blinded by greed, those who were opressed take their chance ti free themselves. But will they forget, forget the cruelty done to their kin, forget the suffering and death brought upon them. Like all creatures they want revenge, and revenge is always spelled in blood. And you watch as your empire burns down under the creatures you once called slaves. You've fed off of abonce fresh kill for too long, now a rotting corpse, you grow sick and die.

I actually feel sorrow when I kill a monster. I do that for what? Population control? No, because the ecosystem does that on its own. To Get New Armor? What's the point in wearing a creatures skin when you can have better equipment out of strong metals and easier to be made. When you stab/shoot/slash a creature and they start screaming in pain... Don't you even think a second. Maybe for food. But isn't there a more humane way to kill them? And the worst part this is probably based on real life. We have killed hundreds if not thousands of species. Because of greed and the idiocy of mankind. Most of our mammals are on the brink. We literally made a species extinct because we believed in superstition. And this occurs daily. Studys found that 150-200 species go extinct each day. Even if like 99% are arthropods or deep sea fish it still affects the environment. One last example The Northern White Rhino. It was poached until 3 specimens remained 2-3 months ago the last male died so the subspecies is doomed Monster Hunter is a reminder for us if we don't respect nature then we shall fail as them but more slowly and painfull

Actually, the armor and weapons made purely from ore sucks compared to the armor made from monster materials. In any case, the only reason hunters usually even target a monster is because it's unbalancing the ecosystem, it's threatening a human population, or it's exhibiting behaviors that make it a danger to humans and other monsters. Even without including all the species man drove to extinction, 99% of all animals that have ever existed are extinct. Not that I'm advocating irresponsibility; it's man's God-given duty to be good stewards of the earth. What I'm saying is that the impact humans have had on the environment is negligible compared to the various extinction events in earth's history, so don't get so bent out of shape about it.

Thanks for the insightful comment MidNight. Ultimatly Monster Hunter is a video game so I don't worry to much about hunting. In real life though I do try to stay aware of environmental issues and do what I can to avoid contributing to any harm done by people. Thats part of the reason I'm a vegetarian :)
