You are the only person that talked about the auxiliary buds when chopping the MTC. So happy to have watched your video. The other KZbinrs simply chopped their MTC without warning their viewers about the auxiliary buds.

I understand your pain. I had to cut up my plant, and was praying today the cuttings won't die. I had them soaking in water with an air stone but one of the cuttings started losing more root I had to cut off. I just found some propagation balls, filled them with pafcal, and stuck the cuttings outside to see if they will root.

My husband bought me my first Thai. It was in soil. I repotted her in PAFCAL, perlite and osmocote. So far so good. She put out a new leaf and she’s starting another one too and it’s January in a very cold climate. Boy are you right about how close the nodes are! Mine is little still. No fenestrations yet. I am hoping she survives. Have heard so much about root rot, 😱 😜.

Your advice was invaluable as I just dared to cut the top heavy part of my huge thai constellation and I was able to find those nodes you spoke of so it was an excellent guide. Thank you and hopefully all goes well with my little darlings as they only had short arial roots that had never found anything to adhere to or grow within (soil). I used mostly moss, with a very thin layer of soil in the middle and then more moist moss on top. Hopefully that will work out well.

When I put my cutting into water all the aerial roots rotted in the water after a week. I then cut the rotted parts and put the cutting in a pot with soil and it survived.

I’ve always done better in water personally.
@giajonsson66962 жыл бұрын
Interesting to see how you do it :) I’ve always done it the other way, as in cutting the stem before the growth point so it’s growth point and leaf instead of leaf and then growth point.

My Thai con got given to me and had unknown root rot!! I looked this up because I’m tempted to chop since it’s drooping and the areal roots are still healthy in the soil, I’m torn because I’d hate to chop it but it’s either that or let it droop and rot, it’s in a great mix and my monstera is fine but my first Thai con. Is chopping the best bet?

I have a question! Why did you cut it while a new leaf was coming in?
@grassrootsgardening2 жыл бұрын
Because I’m impatient….. :)
@digitalwindowz2 жыл бұрын
Just from my experince, if those roots have taken to dirt, the plant grows best putting them right back into more dirt. I've done it both ways (water and dirt) and the Monstera i've propagated had better growth staying in the same medium. I only water prop if the roots are actually hanging in the air. Both will work, and you did a gre a t job chopping, best of luck with you new props!!

Hi Ryan, so my Aurea has stem rot. I had on moss Pole and I think that’s where I went wrong. I took it off of the moss pole and the stem that was resting on the moss pole has rot. There is a new leaf emerging from that stem and the leaf itself has rot on it. I plan on doing all the typical hydrogen peroxide treatments cutting any rot off changing soil etc. but my question is what do I do with that leave that is unfurling with rot on it? And also the node right below that leave has a little bit of rot on the tip of it as well. Can I snip that little bit of rot off of the node? Needless to say I am absolutely devastated over this! I found this plant And I made three beautiful propagations out of it and got rid of those and kept this one for myself. So this is all I have… I am so sad

I’ve never seen a growth point under the leaf petiole that you strip away a leaf to find it. The node is below the leaf petiole, down below the stem not under the leaf stem.2 you wouldn’t suggest anyone to propagate a Thai at home?
