I think the basic idea of the new carriers is really nice, but it just doesnt fit to a game that was build around the old gameplay for years. Currently the game feels really weird, lets hope the devs figure the balance out soon.

Getting real sick of the unsporting and weasley "remove CVs" responses. 😑 I mean, if we're gonna play that weasley game, lets remove DDs, they can perma spot you from stealth, theyre fast, you cant citadel them, and they can instant vaporize any ship with torps in a single strike. Plus they're super small for "warships", i mean, might as well call a dingy with torpedo launchers a "warship" at that point 😋.

They should have just rebalanced the old system, but infinite planes is a joke, and then people come with "yea, but you also have infinite ammo on ships!" and NO, it's not the same, since as a carrier you also have infinite bombs and torpedos. CVs just don't need to play carefully now since they'll spawn new planes right away, which is a Joke, they will spam their planes until your defensive AA is down and sooner or later they get you, this new gameplay is even more broken than the old one, plus it's completely boring since it's no challenge to hit enemies and it's PvE because you don't have a real opponent

@@Mr_Secondaries That's pretty much what happened with that update. Flamu even explains it... Nobody really wants to be the useless Piñata. BBs always had the opportunity to support their cruisers and DDs. DDs cannot survive in permaspot world. By the way, BBs can vaporize ships in a single strike. My Musashi, my Nikolai, my Colorado, my Nagato excel at that. My Texas has vaporized Russian DDs in single (very well targeted and very lucky) strikes. What you choose to ignore is the fact that in the time the DD sneaked up on you and "vaporized" you, you have amassed 70k damage in citadels and shell damage, or maybe in fire damage for some ships. Considering the last seconds is vastly disingenuous, because the 3-5 minutes it took the DD to bait radar, approach, judge the least risky angle of attack, judge whether you maneuver or are an idiot sailing straight, you've done huge damage. If you haven't, your DDs did not spot enough, or you can't shoot. If you can't shoot, how is that the DDs fault? If your DDs don't spot, you might question your attitude, I mean, why wouldn't such "unsporting and weasley" ships do that? It's free with all the vaporizing.

Well I would if were to log in, but I stopped playing all WG titles a while ago; I did Alpha, both Betas and a little post launch, and around 11k WoT games from Beta in 2010. Funny thing is quite a lot of us said we thought WG would never manage to get CVs to fit in the game as they'd either be too powerful for everyone else to put up with, or too weak for anyone to want to play. Few years later and I don't see any evidence to make me alter that view.

Never would have guessed so many people were a fun of the type of gameplay where one DD scares off half of your team so you get to either try to rush solo or camp with the rest of the chickens. Seriously, it's not CVs that are toxic to the game, it's DDs. Unless you like not doing anything for 10 mins, than it's the other way around.

AA at T7 and down shreds T7 and down planes. T8 CVs top tier, especially the British ones under test, are OP as fuck, but suffer badly when bottom tiered. The extreme damage flak explosions at higher tiers are a bug, don't get used to them. RNG flak was intended to get gutted, manual AA affects continuous damage and therefore is very good now. Looks much better overall and I think we're headed for at least a semi stable state very soon.

Got some really nice 70 (!!) air kills in a Repu with - attention ! - NO AA build at all ! Posted in forum with pictures, also. So, all this thing with "sector fast switch" and all its kind of circumstantial and, proved, by no means decisive. I mean, with no AA build in a ship with worst AA then Monty (at least on paper...) and still I got more then double air kills... True is, was after patch, in 0.8.1. Right now things are so volatile, we cant be sure about anything, air kills give you nothing at all economically... We just need to experiment more, and hope for better days - especially for dd.s skippers who, like you say Flamu, suffer a lot now. Aside this, another great vid, and greetings from Portugal !

Very interesting video that has caused me to reconsider the legendary module I never use on my Hindenburg. I also agree wholeheartedly on the lowered functionality of concealment expert, at least on BB's. One aspect of this patch that no one is talking about is the huge impact it is having on cruiser play. Here on the NA we have a BB heavy meta. Because of the frequent and often unexpected plane spotting it has become damn near impossible to avoid showing broadside to multiple BB's you never even saw. Also, while under plane attack dodging can often lead to becoming a juicy target to multiple enemy BB's, and an early exit. I find myself having to take the plane damage to avoid the much greater alpha threat from BB's. Unlike BB's, the air strikes do become significant damage and we all know the kind of focusing cruisers endure when they become a wounded duck. Yeah, "endure" is likely the wrong word. I expected the DD population to drop with 8.0 and it has. I also expected less BB's but if anything they've gone up. So now matches are often 2 CV's, 5BB's, 1 DD, and 4 hapless victims, formerly known as cruisers. Ranked is my refuge! Das Bat

At the moment, the players are trying to adapt with changes, it gives me some mixed feeling: Good thing is now less people use Concealment expert, and go for more grouped aggressive push But sometimes i also see stationary lemming balls going round to avoid planes' attack and constant spotting In the future, there will be more 1 CV per team battles. Whether the CV is strong or weak by that time, less CV per match would limit the CV's influence on the meta overall

Grouped agressive is what the bots always did. That sounds like devolvement of the player base! It does seem to remove a lot of L10 Conquerors, but lemming train never was a good goal...

It has been fixed somewhat, where you cant line up the perfect shot every time, especially against AA dds. The issue with spotting and DDs not being able to move out remains. IJN are especially vulnerable. Im not asking to be able to do 20km flanks away from team, just to be able to move out 6-8km ahead of the team and not be spotted and lose third of my health to 3 plane rocket salvoes, and the other two thirds to enemy fire that plane spotting supports. Basically you end up playing passive as hell, or die fast.

@@Sarsol1989 Question: Why should a DD be able to safely contest a high value position solo or be safe 6km-8km out in front of their team? No other ship has the idea they should be able to do that. No other ship has the idea that they should be able to safely be 6km-8km in front of their team. CL get blapped, BB get torped, CV get torped and/or blapped, DD is the only one that thinks they should be able to do this. If you want to say "I think I should have a reasonable chance of getting their undetected." I will hardcore agree with you. But once seen, regardless of whether by another DD or a plane, you should be vulnerable to being blapped if separated significantly from your team. The idea of being able to stealth strike is good (high damage alpha followed by risk), the idea of being able to play safely far in front of your team is not something I can get behind though. And I play DD/CL most of the time mind you. And I'm also for toning down the stupidity that is Radar. But this idea you're entitled to being safely far out front is ludicrous.

@@Ralathar44 Because getting a bit in front of the team to scout, and contesting caps is THE JOB OF DDs. If you remove that, you only have torping and shooting at enemy dds from 10km away left. Getting spotted and shot at, is expected, so people developed disengagement strategies, so only clip damage is applied, lets say 5-10% means you are decent. Dropping smoke and putting it between you and enemy, while running away was also good tactic (useless if being spotted by planes now). Im not asking to be able to operate in front of your team and remain undetected the entire time. Im asking to be able to get in front of your team to contest a cap and not loosing most of your hp because CV decided send rocket planes to your area and there is nothing you can do to them, unless you play a DD that specializes in anti air. Give me ability to disengage into friendly AA and not lose most of my hp or my life in an attempt.

Interesting, about the Tier VII to Tier VIII AA gap. This adds to the massive armor gap between Tier VII and VIII. Particularly for cruiser bow and stern armor ~ 16 mm or so to ~ 25 mm or so. (Excluding the Brits, and probably some others, that stay fragile all the way up.) As a player who is no better than average at higher tiers, I found Tier VII cruisers unplayable when up-tiered whereas I am comfortable with a Tier VIII cruiser in a Tier X game. Which is fortunate. After breaking the bank commissioning a Fletcher for ranked I now have 5 Tier IX ships and no Tier X. Particularly since I lose credits on these ships, even middle-of-the-pack on a winning team. WarGaming has gotten way too greedy over the last year or so.

Nice game and I had fitted my BBs differently since the patch as well because there is a total lack of stealth now. I stopped running my DDs because most of the time I'm spotted before I can get out spawn most of the time and under attack the entire game.

I think a lot of people are in denile with the rework. you say that in a few months we will not see CVs played as much but the whole point of the rework is to have CVs get played more. If it stops getting played in a few months then the rework failed to do what it was suppose to do. I think it's effective. Now you have a choice too, usually everyone just ran concealment expert now there are more options for everyone. and DDs need to adapt a bit but no one will try. the Akizuki and other AA type destroyers are really good at shooting down planes now. rockets damage is horrible the only problem everyone says is that the DDs get spotted and focus on. stick with a cruiser at the beginning cause that's when the CV usually brings out the rocket planes after that its torpedoes and bombs. it's not terrible and the end of WoWs you just need to adapt your play style. If you want to run AA build with all your ships so your going to be weak against everything else its a trade off.

I'm not sure those AA values are a mistake. Look at how aircraft HPs spike upward from Tiers 4 and 6 to 8 and 10. I have seen Tier 8 games with 1x T6 carrier and 1x T8. None with 2x T8. I think that split is intentional to take the sting out of nerfed T7- AA dealing with T8 planes.

I am a shima captain. The only time I can do anything is when there is no cv, or my cv gives me aa cover. These new figher planes suck. I get blindfired in smoke for using my AA. If I turn it off, I wait a minute then die. This new meta is aids...

As I'm a bit crap (and only have an 11t captain on my NC) I went for priority target, expert marksman, basics of survivability and fire prevention. Figure I'm rarely alive to make use of superintendent and AA is lower priority to fire prevention? Tempted to switch out expert marksman for adrenaline rush though...

Yesterday i played with my pal a few games on EU server but we had only 1-2 games with 1 CV per team... All other games were like 3-4 DDs per team & 0 CVs... Interesting

The reason DDs have such a hard time is not just down to rocket planes (DBs deal a ton of damage to DDs too). CVs have a hard time striking any ship and not losing all their planes. Losing 60 planes in the first half of the match, a CV is in a very bad spot for the rest of the match. As a consequence CVs are now focusing on spotting, hunting isolated ships and high value targets. In other words the patch made it so CVs only activity is now the worst thing for DDs. If you want to fix that, without gimping CVs to utter irrelevance, you have to give CVs other meaningful, match impacting, things to do than to harass DDs.

you'd be surprise that the most viable high tier DD right now (im in SEA server) is Shimakaze with 20/16 km torpedo. stay with team for AA while have enough range to strike enemy formation. it's not consistent but better than being perma-spot by CV. sure smoke can hide from plane... but there's radar~~~~. if any of my team call me to cap, my answer is 'D.I.Y.'.

I honestly feel as if the number of games in which there even are any CVs has already been going down greatly. I think 0.8.1 and the hotfix has sort of ruined it for a lot of the CV players that just enjoyed stomping on everyone in the initial OP state of the CV rework. It's still a bit rough of course when there are CVs and when concealment pretty much means nothing because of all the planes but it's not that bad anymore and I almost feel as if this "new meta" is already redundant.

A DD can easily wipe out a rocket plane wave now. I can either stick around and spot for zero experience, attack once for maybe two hits spot for a moment and probably lose half the second wave, or attack twice for maybe 5 hits. Now I will say so far every time a DD rushes to an objective on my teams weak side with a CA that has serviceable AA as a battle buddy, I’m lucky to get a single attack off. The DD and CA cap and move to the next objective. Also since this hotfix, spotting a DD with planes is seemingly harder. I have to be right on top of them to find them. By right on top, I mean “attack reticle” close. So I have to turn back which probably loses my spotting, reacquire and go from there. RNG also seems to hate putting fires on a DD what few times I do hit. My damage as a CV has drastically dropped off this hotfix. I used to be middle/upper third for experience at the end of a match. Now it’s consistently bottom third. I didn’t magically just become bad. Like all players playing any ship I have to weigh winning versus damage output. Spotting and loitering over a DD without attacking it has a better chance of killing it than if I do two attacks. That’s if the team is even able to take advantage of it. When all I do is spot the targets I get squat experience, but I’m probably doing more to “win” the match. DD’s and even some CA’s are still able to snake through the defense line and nuke a CV that can’t defend itself once spotted by a surface ship. Sorry if this goes against the “DDs suck right now” agenda.

@@DanielM4171 I just topped the score board in 4 out of 5 games played last night with my Gearing (12 plane kills), Z-52 (14 plane kills), Grozo (13 plane kills), and Khaba (20 plane kills); my Shima (17 plane kills) placed second behind a Des Moines (36 plane kills). The hotfix screwed over upper tier CVs.

I was just playing Alaska and despite being point blank full broadside to a Montana I was unable to get a single citadel on the ship even after about 8 volleys. Tried water line shots under turrets and super structure, but no joy. Are the guns simply not powerful enough on Alaska to penetrate the armor of Montana or is it something with being too close?

I have been wrecking face with the Kidd lately, 32 plane kills when uptiered yesterday; carriers could have been bad though.

I notice that reducing soft dmg(for example running legendary mod on hinden as well as montana), mean you can saved 3 pts, because the value of healing is reduced, since you tend to eat more raw dmg rather than soft dmg. and you often end up not having the healing potiential to use all heal. also, not using dmg control only mean you are taking unncessary dmg. if you are runing fire prevention and fire reduction time, you should spam dmg control, if you are not under heavy fire or the potiential of being torp.

I can’t speak for EU, but on NA I played give or take 10-15 tier X matches after the Hot Fix and got MAYBE 2 CV’s. It appears that this nerf has made them dissepear

@@Merth667 almost every t10 could do the exact same thing. A BB shooting HE would do far more to a DD. Any radar ship would easily do 6k a salvo. It's all RNG if it hits or not....

This is great. Because there have been morons on NA server whining that Battleship AP is terrible. I see BB AP punishing those that deserve it. Also, even after this map's modification, it seems that Cap A is the Noob Trap still. And US Cruisers fighting in open water with BBs like Montana still around. That's a paddlin'.

Concealment expert is ok when thee is no CV in match but mostly there is so i build for both concealment and AA. AA obviously comes first in value It might work it might not so i am gonna try it on my Fuso and Prinz Eitel Friedrich. PEF gonna shoot more planes down but Fuso benifites more from concealment because Fuso AA is garbage. I wonder if it works.🤔Lets try!🙂

*In my opinion when there is 1 CV per side i think it is better for the gameplay overall now.* Anyway lower tier CV's suffered hard before this hotfix, since most CC's usually just concern about tier 10 CV's that just got nerfed hard. Lower tier CV's certainly do not need any more "hotfixes" since they already suffer extremely when uptiered. Also the rocket planes at overrated, at lower tiers you cannot hit a properly fast maneuvering DD's with them while at tiers 8-10 you do very low damage with them against DD's and if there is any AA your rocket planes will melt fastest of them all because they have the least HP.

i play tier 3-5 DDs on my europe account (skrub i know but thats all that i have unlocked) and each game i lose about half or more of my health to rocket planes

​@@josiahstankus4193 Lol how cannot you not doge rockets at lower tiers since so few are fired? I tried to chase a Kamikaze R in a Ranger once i could not land a single hit on him. You need to learn to throw off the aim of attacking CV at the last moment just before he first his rockets.

@@josiahstankus4193 So, its not the rockets, but the fact that you get spotted that kills you? Try pressing default key "P" so you can turn your AA off since it is nearly useless at lower tier DD's. That should improve your concealment from air and try staying at the start of the game with your cruisers.

I feel like I'm the only one who likes the new update. I don't play Cvs at all either, no more 3-5 dd games, more Bbs and Cruisers to fight, which means more damage to farm? I'm totally down for this update and I hope they keep it majorly the same. The less DDs, the better.

While "The Less DDs the better" is a bit extreme, I agree. I've notice people acting more aggressively with CVs present, as it's much easier to analyze and react to situations with all that spotting. Part of that is fewer torpedoes infesting the water.

Ive been having a hard time with concealment crus as well, i am plane spotted so often, it never gives me the chance to use the conceal to get into a good spot, or ambush...Ive considered just going full AA on my Clev and lose 1km concealment..It has kinda brought back the old days, before island camping was the meta..sitting behind an island now is never gonna work.

Great point about all the AA ships also have radar. Perhaps they need to just get rid of rocket planes? If they did that, they should speed up five bombers a bit though, that whole ‘pop up before going down’ is lame.

I think Rockets are a fine idea. The issue is that, imo, they're maybe a bit too fast, courtesy of being Fighters. There's no time for ANYTHING, Dd CA or BB, to get enough water between them and the next wave to buy time and space from the squadron. Therefor, incredibly easy snipes against Low HP ships

The dd situation really sucks. I tried dds a few years ago never reality got into them stuck with BBs and cruisers. Then I got a T-61 in a crate and figured since I have it I may as well learn. I was really enjoying that ship and then the CV rework dropped. So much for trying to learn DDs. Thanks WG! Just ditch CVs and work on submarines.

I knew the game would become a huge experiment and the meta would be complete chaos with the new carriers and concealment changes. I'll just pause World of Warships and let others do the beta testing. When most bugs are fixed and a new meta is there, i may come back. But i am just too fed up with unfinished game releases of the last years (especially EA games) that i can't be bothered being a beta tester anymore.

0.8.0, coupled with the near full time aspect of keeping up with getting ships like the most recent PEF, have burned me out. I spend (spent) $100's per year in this game. AND most of the way through PEF in January, I felt like I had a full time "job" to keep up with as well! Then watching ships I worked hard on turned to sh*t by 0.8.0. :( It just wore me out. I am not a fan of the new carriers. I wasn't awesome past T5 in the old ones, but I put in a lot of time on them. Poof.. all gone. My first big accomplishment was the hours spent getting the Bismark and it's special camo. Lately the Bismarck doesn't seem as great as it once was. Even with a 19 pt. captain. I'm tired of working hard on ships or classes of ships, or tiers, only to have the bedrock shift under me -all- the time. I want to log in and play for fun. Instead I'm busy on campaigns and one off, chores really. It's not fun anymore. It's an ever changing hamster wheel. :,( Wore the fun right out of me. -Redemption_2016

Henri for me is one of the ship that is benefited from the CV rework. Too fast to be dropped, AA is good enough to swat them out of the skies, even if you doing solo flank

Is WG trying to do the impossible? Small maps, fast planes and fast paced CV play (read: planes constantly in the sky) make concealment irrelevant. That takes all the fun out of DDs and severely constrains the mobility of other ships. I fear WG has taken on the roll of Sisyphus, rolling a big boulder uphill only to have it roll down again as soon as they reach the top. That's what balancing the new CVs feels like right now. I wish the developers luck, and am glad I'm not one of them.

I play Cruisers mostly and DDs. Occasionally BB's. But I do not play anymore. WG is free to do whatever they wish with the game, and I have nothing to say about it. That's as it should be. I do however have the option to choose where I spend my $$. It's no longer on WOWS premium. If it isn't fun, (and it's not for me) I don't play. Not complaining at all, it was fun while it lasted, all of you who enjoy the new model, have at it. You won't miss me, nor I you. It was a good run, and I was fairly attached to WOWS. Not anymore. If they were to do something different, I might re-evaluate. I have no idea what that would be, and I have no suggestions. Turning back the clock is not usually a viable option.

"A bit backwards." I like it. All the more extreme forms of "constructive criticism" of WarGaming have been so over-used in the past week they are losing meaning. It seems ironic that these small, littoral maps (which should be the playground for destroyers, MGBs, MTBs, E-Boats, PT boats etc.) have been converted to a playground for deep water capital ships. (Fortunately for carriers they do not have to go full speed into the wind to launch and recover planes. They can go astern and launch, which is a bit backwards both literally and figuratively.)

the problem here in particular is not necessary the CV's its that people are not used to seeing them so mutch people call them OP and say the kill dds easily yet somehow forget the fact that the RTS carriers could perma spot you, and besided that RTS Hakuryu was infamous for 1 shotting DD's within 5 minutes of the game or the Midway one shotting Battleships with cross torp drops and heavy AP bombs, and yet you are unable to do that now, i can understand its frustrating to play a dd concidering that Radar is also still in the game(even thou i think radar should be removed from this game) i agree on the AA being weak before but other then that people need to learn how to look at the overal picture instead of jumping on what ever anti cv bandwagon.
