The waterjet marks on the outer profile is basically MKC version of "thick for toughness " They gaslight the community into thinking it's "rustic" when it's just lazy. I will bet anyone any amount of money they have $40 all cost into that knife and sheath and they won't spend the time and cost to finish the profile because they don't have anyone skilled enough to do it and /or they don't wanna pay the cost to have the blanks cut oversized then milled or ground down to fit the scales. The scales are most likely milled to an exact dimensions so they will line up with the profile of the blade the only think human hands touch is putting scales on and sharpening.

My guess is just old way of thinking or outdated knowledge, I'm sure at one point steels over 63 were difficult to sharpen before we learned about abrasives. However once we learned abrasives matter we learned that the high hardness steels not only sharpen easier with proper heat treatment but de burr like 10× easier leading to a much much sharper edges that last way longer and is easily honed and stropped back.
@ericasedcСағат бұрын
I guess because he’s not that old, I figure he may know better. For some reason this particular marketing tactic targets his aimed demographic in the way he expects them to accept it best. He is aiming for hunters and avid outdoorsmen. They would be the ones with the outdated and uneducated thoughts on knives. I believe Josh may know better though.

that was an interesting video. the leaving the burr on the knife and shipping it out is pretty wild. about the only time you ever hear of folks liking a burr edge is with some butchers. if you are cutting clean meat all day, then that burr will slice very agressively and is easy to stand back up again with a steel if or when you fold it over. but on a working/hunting knife it doesnt make much sense to me.

Bought a MKC Stonewall Skinner about two years ago. Decent knife. Paid $350.00. Packaging high quality. Knife decent but, for the money.......Ahhhh. I emailed them and said they could sell more knives to the average person and their response was, they put a lot of time and effort into R and D. I gotta say. I have made knives and using R and D seems rather lame as you just think of a design and make it. Not rocket science in the end. I won't buy another as I can get a real custom made knife for less.

Ok first off I support as many American companies as possible but not if the product sucks especially for that price. The grind marks being left on the tang and burr left on the edge is just pure laziness. They can spin it however they want but it’s just simple laziness. Thats not to say that is the workers fault! They are given quality specs to go by and this is what they are being told to make. Send that knife to me and I could have that tang cleaned up and polished in a half hour or less. Personally that company is not worth your time or attention. There are much more important and better products to feature. That said I appreciate the video as all I o own of them is the legal issues.
