Look at these COLORS of Ammolite Gemstone! I found a cliffside of the BearPaw Shale Formation that was eroding. I couldn't believe the density of fossils! Not only are there numerous fossils, but they are HUGE! So large I was having to pull the ammonites out in sections. And then.... I rinsed them off and the sun lit them up. Wow. Definitely the most captivating colors I have ever collected in person myself. This is rough ammolite, simply pulled out of a dirty, muddy cliffside, and it blows my mind.
Minus trying to swallow a few frogs and step on a step, Chopper did an outstanding job trying to help me dig out the fossils :). Of course, a lovely Montana Agate was waiting to be found.

Ok, you were right about the video 😮, I'm going to watch it again on the big TV tomorrow. Awesomeness, those Ammolite colors are sweet.. You're perfectly into the zone for sure. For the material up high, buy yourself an adjustable retractable pole type stick, about a twelve footer, they will collapse to four feet, easy carry. Go to Harbor Freight, buy three flat tip screwdrivers, small, medium and large for digging around the fossils in the shale.. I could tell you were totally stoked! 😂 When you find any partial Ammonite pieces without Ammolite, take them home with you, I'll show you a trick to get some beautiful slabs off them for cabbing👌.. This video made me homesick for fossil hounding in Montana! Brought back so many memories, thank you .. You're definitely enjoying the fossil hounding as much as the rockhounding you do.. Awesomeness!!! This video gets a two thumbs up 👍👍..

What a fantastic idea Michael! You've done this before 😉. Yes, I sooooo much enjoy fossil hounding. I could go to this spot every single day and never get tired of it. You never know what you're going to pull out!!! I get super excited...sometimes I can't even get to bed at night after the day. And when I get home I want to tackle the nodules! I bet you found unbelievable stuff here in Montana

Hey miss Kimberly, I just watched your journey video. First of all, I just want you to know how sorry I am for your loss. I could not agree with you more on how spiritual and emotionally supportive nature is to the soul. Everybody has their own point of view, but I truly believe we become more in tune when we take the time to enjoy what God has created for us. Rockhounding has been more to me than the joy of beautiful Rocks and minerals as well. Peace and soul cleansing. Take it in girl friend. Peace be the journey. Your Colorado Rockhound, Vinny.

What amazing finds😅 you had today. I’d like to see how you clean them up and polish them. Just one thing, I couldn’t tell if your dog had a harness on or just a collar. I don’t have a problem with you hanging on and he helping pull you up the hill, but pulling on the collar against his throat can cause damage, unless you’re using a harness. I can tell you love your dog, so if it wasn’t a harness, I’d spend a little money and get one for him and feel more comfortable having him help you up the cliffside.♥️

So where could I go to find this? I live in Alberta:) I love that baqulite too. Take a little broom and gloves with you:) will be much easier on those hands!:) I thought the bear paw region was all under protection due to the fossil content, nice to see one can rock hound in areas:) cute little baby garter snake...harmless:)Cheers!

@@georgezink8256 you don’t even know what the shale does to our skin, it absorbs all moisture and then the skin starts cracking and when you have rocks in your head, it doesn’t matter so much until you snag your shredded cuticles on hanging clothing or other items that seem to know where the pain is lol lol lol duct tape, motor oil, but mostly just wear gloves in the shale and try not to breathe the shale gas, that is mostly radon, when you pry open the stones, that limestone smell is tough and don’t breathe limestone dust from chipping at the fossil

@MontanaRockMom
@MontanaRockMom 11 ай бұрын
It's quite a process. You have to first stabilize your shell with cyanoacrylate before sanding or polishing. My favorite is to carve them part-way out of a piece of shale...so they are still partly sitting in the matrix- maybe keep one with the shell, one with just the suture marks, looks like a sculpture- it takes a fair amount of time, but is quite a display piece once finished.

The large smooth round ammonites are placentacerus. Smaller ones are males and the bigger ones are female. Ones preserved in the "blue zone" shales are where the really high grade ammolite specimens come from according to what I've read.

@MontanaRockMom

Ammolite makes fantastic cabs!!!!!! It's definitely a process though. The shell is usually stabilized with cyanoacrylate first (essentially super glue). Then you can be more rough when polishing it. People often put resin or clear quartz on top of it once polished. It's quite a captivating gemstone.
