Thanks for the shout out! I enjoyed visiting gaming rules headquarters and playing Just One with you pre-Gridcon. It's a big pain in the butt to travel there and back, and put my eating and sleeping schedule all out of whack, but totally worth it to play in person with so many fellow supporters of your channel, many of whom I play with on BGA throughout the year. I bought several games and expansions, both new and used, and learned several others, two of which I might need to go and buy: Cities and World Wonders. I also learned River of Gold from Simon and Tom, but that was already on my wish list.

Thanks Paul and Vicky! I missed it live like usual but always fun to watch and catch up with. I would love a boardgame to be made from The Dark Tower series by Stephen King

I think my number 1 reason I hate Lost Ruins of Arnak is that its mainly a game about moving up a non thematic track at the side (called Research) with random bonuses on it. Yes there are other bits to the game, but essentially the main points are all at the top of that track.
@kennethkwa52927 күн бұрын
Thanks for the answer on tracks! I haven't played games for long enough to say that I myself have personally have issues with random tracks, but I can totally get where you're coming from. Voidfall, strangely enough, is the game that first comes to mind. I love the game and think it is a masterpiece. But to me, the thematic explanation for the bonuses on the three tracks on your house mat seems a bit loose. Whereas for Lost Ruins of Arnak, I can "get" why we're moving up the temple track and what it represents. I guess more fundamentally, it suggests that even for euro games, the theme can be very important in rounding off the entire gaming experience. Thanks for the discussion!

turning your hobby into a full time job is probably one of the best things someone could do in their life.. I wish I could do the same! :😅 👍🏼 as long as you keep doing what you're doing, I won't stop supporting you, and it was awesome to get an answer to the very first question I was asking you, ever! 😁 I hope you'll enjoy your vacation in Sharm El-Sheikh! 🙏🏼😍

The question about women in board gaming has two faces. At major cons it is probably 60/40 when it comes to men and women attending. In the content creation there are amazing women such as Thinker Themer, Stella, Monique from Before You Play, Liz Davidson, Professor Meg, Candice Harris, etc. Maybe they need more promotion by other content creators, or better visibility. Sure in game creation and game art it is still slim pickings, and that is the only area in need of action.

Not that many in the industry itself though.
@manuelkooijman575725 күн бұрын
@, I agree but I hope this is not for nefarious reasons. I like to think, but people can correct me when wrong, that the board gaming hobby and certainly content creation is an equal opportunity hobby. So the only thing holding somebody back is the person itself. And there are only so many designers, content creators who make this their main job. Most have this as a side job. You are very fortunate, Paul, in that regard. People like Luke Hector, Liz Davidson, David Thompson, the splotter guys, Dan Hughes, etc still have a normal day job and put in the hours in their free time to do something for the hobby.

I hold Cole Wehrle in high regards when it comes to games designs. And like many of this other games, it's always polarising among my group. I thought I would like Arcs but after playing it twice, I can't really see myself giving it another go. I can see the appeal and the brilliance of the game but this is just not the one for me. It's true, you either love or hate it.

Yep, I can't really see Arcs being your cup of tea. I'm not sure that I'd describe it as "dudes on a map", but it is *definitely* a Marmite game - love it or hate it, there is very little middle ground. FWIW, I find it very similar in feel to a number of Cole's other games, including Pax Pamir, Oath and John Company 2 - slightly bonkers, slightly out of control, utterly unique. SETI is similar to Arnak in terms of pacing, tightness of resources and some of the card play IMO.

My (MrsCat) question/discussion re female designers/content creators gave out a couple of interesting comments, one of which was maybe women just don't have the time...that is a very valid point...we are so busy with work, children, housework, cooking,cleaning etc etc...perhaps its just as simple as that???? Which is a shame as I'm sure there are some extremely talented females designers or artists or anything to do with the gaming industry. C'mon girls, don't be shy!! A comment was made that are a few female content creators...could I have some recommendations? Bearing in mind, I like the Paul variety ie, teaching/playthroughs sort of thing...I'm not into someone rambling on about a game or saying how cute it is...

@GamingRulesVideos28 күн бұрын
oh, here we are again.... This is becoming tedious. Clearly you have misunderstood my previous responses to your comments - so let me be absolutely clear. This is my live Q&A. People ask questions DURING the live stream. I don't answer questions on here 24x7. But also... what investigation about warped cards? Investigation by who? The boardgame police? Final warning. If you continue to troll my videos and leave comments like this, you will be removed from the channel. You are entitled to your opinions, but trolling my videos and constantly posting random nonsense which has nothing to do with the video itself is not the right way to get your opinion heard.
