I have a bunch of different thoughts. While I have a lot of respect for Karl, he definitely drinks a lot of his own Kool-Aid. The comparison to Jon Stewart is spot on. You can't claim to spend 100+ hours researching something, make serious allegations, and then go, "this isn't journalism - it's entertainment." Bullshit. That being said, I'm confused by your confusion regarding why it's weird that a lawyer only based their legal analysis on videos. There's an accountant who did a breakdown of the IRS documents. He didn't just go based on Karl's video, but actually looked up the IRS documents to get a full picture before giving a professional opinion. You'd think a lawyer of all professions would dig deeper into a story before giving a legal opinion on things like defamation with malice, which require either intentional lying, or with reckless disregard of the truth. Call me insane, but I think people should know what they are talking about when giving a professional opinion. And in defense of Karl as to withholding information, the guy did like two videos before everyone started accusing him of milking drama for money. The guy's laid out all of his info on Billy Mitchell, for example, and he gets shit for it. So I understand both sides of the coin. Ultimately, I think Karl's ego is going to be his own downfall. I don't doubt that one day he's going to make some sort of a mistake and the house of cards will tumble. He certainly is cocky with a few of his assertions, playing with fire that sometimes entertains the potential of a legitimate lawsuit.

1. I think Karl intentionally withheld key bits of information so he could dole it out over time in a more entertaining way (like details about their Discord call). 2. I view the thesis of Moon's video as responding to the evidence presented in the Karl and Muta videos. Not as a comprehensive legal analysis of every detail of this issue. It's a response, not an independently produced discovery/analysis. 3. I'm unconvinced that the withheld information about Jirard being a dishonest person (for example) would impact the legal analysis that much anyway. The bottom line is that malicious intent/theft is still not evident and Karl carelessly accused Jirard of this with reckless abandon, and little to no concern about defamation, mostly because he's in another jurisdiction. Those are my thoughts.

@@RedCowArcade 1. He said he was going to make multiple videos along with SomeOrdinaryGamers in his first video. It's probably done for a similar reason to why you have clips on youtube. Instead of your long podcast with Frankie talking non-stop and EJ saying "Ya" every five minutes, you want to keep peoples attention for views, retention and engagement. A 3 hour info dump video isn't going to do that. 2. The first thing Moon does is present it as a legal analysis of him residing as a judge in between a plaintiff and defendant, lol. How do you properly respond to the facts of the matter when you don't know what you are talking about and get basic facts of the matter wrong? In a similar vein, how is talking about youtube revenue responding to the evidence presented in the video? 3. The part where he lied at the most recent Indieland about the money having been donated to specific charities, despite claiming in the call (to Karl/SomeOrdinaryGamers) to having known the money was not donated a year prior, seems to be pretty malicious to me. There is also fact that so much money from non-Indieland events seems to be missing, and his misrepresentation of where donated money was going (stating it all was going straight to charity while using it to pay people, which is fine but you shouldn't misrepresent what you are doing). Also, Karl has already been sued for defamation by Billy Mitchell so I doubt he's doing this because he has no concern for being sued because he is in another jurisdiction.

@@RedCowArcade you are way off base on this. The first person to broach the subject of embezzlement was Jirard in the phone call. The only reason I think that the phone call was ultimately released is because Jirard, in his response video, threatened to sue Karl and Mutahar. There are some valid critiques for Karl and Mutahar but they are on the margins like the stuff about the tax form needing to be signed. If anything, though, I think Jirard was very deft at emotionally manipulating Karl and Mutahar in the phone call. Karl has admitted as much and that he didn't go as hard in the initial video because of this. Karl has done a couple of interviews where he mentioned some additional context on Camelot331 and The Biggest Problem. The Khalil family is super slimy and there's a lot more out there than just the IndieLand stuff. Jirard is a pathological liar and he stole charity money. Why you want to ignore that and criticize the people who brought this criminal activity to light is beyond me. It's made me actually like you guys a lot less.

That would be true if Karl lived in the US, but I believe he's in Australia. In that country, the defamation laws are different and Karl could theoretically be liable for defamation. But at the same time, Jirard is clearly doing shady stuff and he may not be able to sue for defamation.

Fact is, Billy Mitchel scores went up on a newly created "archive" of DK scores. They do not appear on the main page of DK scores nor will they ever. In a sense, Billy didn't have a full win here; and the main page states that the scores there have a high degree of verification and authenticity; which Billy meet by modern standards.

His scores weren't added back to the existing data base- his scores are still banned- they simply were added back on to legacy high scores from prior to the sale of Twin Galaxies. Moony didn't just critique a youtube video and claimed that it didn't have enough evidence. If that were all he did, it wouldn't be an issue. Moony misrepresented Karl's embezzlement argument, claimed that he was a sloppy researcher, fabricated a defense for the Completionist, implied that Karl started a witch hunt for the money, implied that Karl might be guilty of defamation and potentially extortion, and did all of that under the pretense of impartiality. Watching Karl's videos is not enough research when you consider all of those things. Karl DID do his research, and if Moony had so much as contacted Karl or Someordinarygamers for input (which THEY did with the Completionist), he might have avoided an embarrassing takedown.

Nah, bad take. Karl is completely right. His presentation to a general audience did not need to be a deep-dive into every legal definition and detail. It needed to present the facts in a cogent way for a general audience to understand the nature of the scandal. You would honestly lose a lot of your audience if the presentation became convoluted, and then an important message would be muddled. He also linked all of his sources. A "legal analysis" requires more of a look into the nitty-gritty. An actual look at the sources cited would be nice. If Moon wasn't going to do independent research or even look at corroborating documents, he could have given a much more neutral response talking about the potential legal pitfalls in Karl's presented argument without insisting that Karl was lazy and malicious.

Just so you know, both Rachel Maddow and Tucker Carlson have used the "entertainment" defense in defamation cases, it's not exclusive to Fox News or any particular media channel or political ideology. I'm actually a big fan of Moon Channel, and watched the video on Jobst when it came out. I was dismayed when Jobst released his response - quite frankly the guy seems like a real piece of work. His fanbase is even worse - they're the worst kind of attack-dog zealous mob, who seem incapable of thinking for themselves. Also, I'm glad you guys picked up on the utter absurdity of Jobst saying "actually, I have loads of proof, I just didn't bother to share it with you guys, and I still won't, but just trust me".
